^^^ Winston Churchill got out of bed each morning & poured himself a stiff drink...

Carry on...

By all reports, it was champagne with breakfast. Not exactly a stiff drink. That came later, with the cocktail that bears his name.

Churchill:

Ingredients: 2 jiggers of chilled gin, 1 unopened bottle of vermouth.

Instructions: Pour gin into a martini glass. Wave bottle of vermouth over. Drink.

Clearly a no-nonsense kind of guy. Why mess with something that works?

He's always struck me as a Melbourne supporter type. Perhaps not the modern day type but certainly the 40's/ 50's type.

Is that any different to a very long Martini?

Sometimes life gets in the way of what's important and you just have to pay attention to the mundane stuff. Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. You've got to admit though, there is a lot to get excited about at the moment. At this time of the year everything is just coming up roses. What can possibly go wrong? We are re-shaping our list and soon enough we'll start re-shaping bodies and attitudes during pre-season.

Good work Crawf. I was interested in McLardy's statement. Some people like to say that actions are more important than words but good leaders know that their words are important.

The most important part of McLardy's statement was where he pointed out that despite the calamity of losing a sponsor on the eve of the season, MFC will still make a small operating profit. It doesn't make many headlines but in the recent history of the MFC, this is a hugely significant achievement.

With financial stability, the focus is now on football, as it should be.

The words are very carefully chosen throughout. I am prepared to put some faith in Mr McLardy.

Thank you to everyone who has chosen to post positives from the season. This is a refreshing thread.

- I am just ecstatic that the post season has well and truly arrived and the Dees are playing hard ball trying to fill the gaps in our list and make use of the massive investment into the scouting and trading section of the football department. I sincerely believe that they, along with our coaching and support staff, will make some big inroads into 'fixing' our list this off-season.

Having a second D. Misson pre-season under the belt is sure to stand some players in good stead.

Great thread. This post is the key one for me, plus having Neil Craig for a full pre-season now and players knowing what they need to do from the FD.

Blease like Watts both very young. Potentially both could be absolute guns at 25. This is why we need to keep Sylvia and why we went after Byrnes...to teach.

To teach them how to flip a BMW near the big house ?

Or to stop the GF from getting mouthy?

Positivity only on this thread please Biffen

Thanks OD. There's plenty of outlets for the negative Nellies.

Come on folks - I'm starting to wonder how many positive Percys there are out there. My grandmother was Nellie and my grandfather was Percy and they lived up to their names.

. So, in saying "we will not be taking shortcuts," does that confirm that the absurd pick 4 sacrifice for Wellingham the Unwilling, and / or Dawes is definitely NOT on? Edited by monoccular

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play
