Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Cynical?

We are playing games up in Darwin and visiting rural indigenous communties during the week in the build up to the game, and we have previously had a strong aboriginal presence in our team with the likes of Jurrah and Davey. This year I was thinking today that we would have none, however, Jetta has been picked. Now I am reading Matt Burgan on the clubs website that the reason Gysberts can't get a game is due to the amount of the season he has missed, yet Jetta gets the nod. I think it is a legitimate question.

Does Jetta get a game this week if the game wasn't in Darwin?

?????

Yes he has and it still is in Darwin.

Not quite sure what you didn't get. I was asking if I was being cynical by thinking that if this game wasn't being played in Darwin and it was at the MCG or AAMI, would Jetta have been picked?

Some people will get on here and probably label me a racist, or some BS like that, but there wil be many more who will probably be thinking along similar lines.

I wanted to know if anyone thought his VFL form warranted selection?

Jetta ran out the game far better than Gysberts who compounded after a solid first half

Well Matt Burgen also said match fitness and Neville's versatility also helped in his selection, also that last time they played in Darwin he had a really good game. Jordie is also an emergency so he may still get called up. Nevilles Versiltily as a players holds him in good stead and his defensive skills are more developed then Gysberts. Which is what the coaches are asking for.

My question to you is why does the selection of Jetta over Gysbert immediately bring your train of thought along the line of questioning it did so much so to start a thread saying Neville Jetta was picked because he is Indigenous and we are playing in Darwin where a lot of Indigenous people live.

FInally could it not be that the Selection Committee are more intimately knowledgeable about how each of the players are tracking and select the team that they believe will give them a greater chance of winning.

Fact: Jetta is ready to play after a good showing last week. There are 27 players available for selection at the moment, combined with the fact Neeld is keen to see what Jetta has to offer after not yet having seen him play a game. Hard decisions need to be made at end of this year and he wants to see players who warrant selection.

Cook has done nothing to warrant a call up. He is not up to Casey let alone AFL at this point.

It sounded warranted - or at least debatable - from the Casey reports. Also given that time is not exactly on his side to prove himself given that he's out of contract this year, I'd expect the coach wants to see if he can play as early as he can. I'm happy with the selection on both those fronts.

As it happens I also think the "aboriginal drawcard" card you're playing is pretty far fetched- firstly Jetta is from WA, and secondly I doubt too many kids really give a toss about seeing him play; he's a no name player in the AFL (ignoring that his surname itself is something of a brand these days, but that has nothing to do with Nev). If it was Liam Jurrah we were playing prematurely you might have a point.

I wouldn't say cynical so much as completely illogical.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
