Methinks we might have seen the last of Bate, unless redheads are being rested due to the NT sun...the lobster effect if you will.

Not many play 100 AFL games

Isnt it a night match?? :-)

I wonder if the cones will be named in the team since this is a interstate training/try out to see if you have a career in 2013.

86 years.

But they were the equivalent of 10 goals down at three quarter time against Collingwood in a Semi Final at the G and won the game and that broke the curse.

So I think we will have to do something similar.

And yes, "Curse of the Red Fox" or The Red Fox Curse" is better.

'Curse of the CarpetBaggers'.

Who was it exactly that 'Got Him'? And what was they're immediate history, credentials?

You mean we can possibly get worse?

Imagine the problems we would have without the elite million dollar scientific training team.

Only another two and a half years to go to reach peak fitness.

Kinda sad that on the Facebook page, the club asked "Where would you play our 'ins'" or similar.

My immediate response was 'Casey'.

Since when was Jordie injured!? Bugger me I'm getting sick of seeing our B-side out there, especially when our A-side isn't that great anyway.

Good to see Jetta back in the side.

not the most dangerous looking forward line around....

i take back my comment as i just saw the gws forward line:

HF: Rhys Palmer, Nick Haynes, Sam Frost

F: Gerald Ugle, Israel Folau, Mark Whiley

They are tanking!

Was excited by last weeks ins and our squad in general... Back to earth with a thud this week

They are tanking!

No , They're just STINKING !!

Watched a highlight reel from the game against carlton in 2009(?) when Russian kicked 5 and every highlight involved Jetta, very excited to have him back, hope he can have a big pre season...

Also did we play Jamar, Martin, Spencer and Johnson in the same game???

Isnt it a night match?? :-)

ha ha indeed it is, my bad. But we're talking about a bloke who appears to get tired running off the square to the centre bounce.

At midnight the sun would be too hot for him I reckon.

Anyway having wanted him delisted for 3 seasons I now start to feel sorry for him

I have seen some B-grade Melbourne teams listed over the past 5 years, and some absolute shockers in the early 80's, but this 22 has to rate as one of our weakest. Neeld must be twitching like crazy to get this seasons over with.

Good to see Jetta back but I can't really see him making an impact this year. He is quick and aggressive but every opposition team is is filled with quick, aggressive players so he will have to do something exceptional to stand out.

For the life of me, I can't understand what is happening with Gysberts. For Jetta to jump straight past him Neeld must have a poor view of Gyberts in fitness, body size or some other team core value we are not privvy to.

You would think Bate is gone from here.

Can I get any more depressed about the Dees this year???!!!???

Glad to see Spencer get another chance, and we don't lose much with those outs, but the remaining ins are woeful.

What more does Gysberts need to do to get a run? I thought we were going to give our younger players a run this year, and Port seems a good team to do this against.

I thought Watts rolled an ankle, guess we have been mislead on that one too.

didn't you notice he's got TBC? very serious stuff :o

Yes we have not got past 5th August yet!

Agree with others that this side is one of our very worst I can recall in the past 10 years, both on paper and on form. Part of that is the injury list, of course. I honestly think that the only side we could beat with this team in at the moment is GWS, and even then, only a certainty at home!

They are tanking!

Quite right. GWS are tanking but since the introduction of the new franchises tanking has become not only respectable, but the right thing to do in certain circumstances.

There's nothing wrong with the Giants making ten changes, more than half of them not compulsory, just to give some of their lesser lights a go and to rest the young bodies of their champions. It's good for football.

Carlton did the same thing long before it came into fashion and won a trophy for doing it once upon a time. Called it the Kreuzer Cup. Only thing is that had Melbourne been smart enough at the time it would have had Cotchin instead of Morton and the following year, picks 1 & 2 would have given it both Watts and Naitanui.

Anyway, that's ancient history. Melbourne doesn't have to tank. All of those problems are due to the Top End curse and I'm convinced that we'll beat it on Saturday night.

Like your confidence WJ

Just wish I could share it

I read somewhere that we had only 27 players from whom to choose this week, which is pretty depressing in itself.

No need to raise questions of tanking anywhere.

Absolutely, as Mr. Demetriou said, there's no tanking going on in the AFL and that's good enough for me.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
