You right he is too. I'm struggling to get used to this free agancy.

It's a pain in the a$$ isn't it!!?! Upside is we're well placed with $$$ so we'll be pretty active in the offseason (especially compared to the season itself!)

I would rather get Gwilt. He would be an upgrade on Joel Mac and it would mean Grimes can play midfield almost full-time. Would add a bit more composure and skill to our backline and will come a lot more cheaply than Goddard. Also a free agent.

I understand the desire to get Goddard but he is what 28 and has never been the kind of mid that I would want our Marquee Mid Money © to go to - a dynamic in/out mid that can do everything.

His best footy is off a HBF and many on here know my view of the HBF...

It is the easiest place to play in the world.

Hi stuie I thought it was just me

However the off season is much more pleasurable then the Playing season for me.

Lots of hope with new draftees, recruits, FD 's Training facilities etc.

It is the playing season that ruins everything!

If we were seriously looking like we might play deep into finals next year then he should be considered.

Yeah, every offseason we're flying, it's just the season itself that gets in the way!

Admittedly I've gone stone cold on BG. Mind you that was pre-Clark. I am a great deal more confident in our young leaders. Much has transpired I believe since then. Including Grimes on the field.

I think until we actually see it start to run, it'll take a little while to sink in. On top of that I don't like the Idea of it. I think it will change the face of our game way too much. I don't think it will be popular at all, amongst supporters.

Good for us, Maybe? Time will tell. I prefer trade by negotiation, than walk free. If we can deal with Boak & Port respectfully, that would be good. i just don't like out & out exploitation.

That would suit the likes of Blues & Pies, Bombers.

IMO Goddard has slid since the last 18 months. Is just a very good footballer. No real hurt factor.

If we offered him 7 years our board and management would be totally incompetent and Brad Hardie would be less relevant than I thought.

I've also been told this by two other sources. One who works as a footy manager and made contact with another footy department person with another Victorian based AFL club. When he asked if the other guy had heard of it he answered yes and apparently common knowledge amongst footy departments Dees are prepared to offer 6 to 7 years very much front ended as we have the money in the cap now.

The risk with 6 to 7 years is by 30/32 years of age he will be finished but don't think the way it is structured with front end contarct it would be that much of a burden. Still not sure on this trust my source but nothing to say the Clokes aren't spreading this rumour around the industry

I believe we need to get two free agents from a club with a strong culture & success!

Give Paul Chapman 2 years. Sean Dempster 2 year. I would try for Lenny Hayes but cant see StKilda letting him go or him leaving.

Keep Pick 3 (Grundy), Pick 4 (Jack Martin U/17 or Best mid), Pick 21 (Viney)

Open for trade on Pick 12! Beams or Caddy

Moneyballers - David Ellard, Daniel Archer, Koby Stevens

Archer is an A-grade dud.

I like your thinking there but i would have Stringer and toumpas at 3&4

Chapman would be great with clark for a year or 2 while the cookie monster comes on.

nice work

When the end comes it comes quick as it did for teh Lions of 2005 and hate to say it because I love him as a player for an opposition man, but Chappy is just about Cooked

If we were seriously looking like we might play deep into finals next year then he should be considered.

But....

Actually, on reflection if he's not costing picks, he would be a help, with our maturity issues & would help us being more competitive, & inturn getting towards the finals.

My main gripe was about trading away our future. But IF it's only Cash on his contract, then I'd be happy. As long as we recruit young mids with our picks so they can follow through behind the Goddards & Moloney's.

We keep our picks for our own use, & I'm onboard.

* If we got Goddard as a free agent,,,, & Boak with Pick 13, a trade & $$$$,,, that would fast track our climb.

UNrestricted Free agent. Give him a 2Yr,, & play him for One. His AtiTude would be just what the good doctor Ordered,,, & his Finals Hunger & Experience would be Massive.

He'd be great with our young players. And ruffle the seniors hair as well.

Get him, for free!

Neeld an co wont waste time with mini draft we can't wait until 2014 until a supposed gun will come in. The time is now, if we can't get a Caddy, Boak, Beams then we need Wines Stringer and Viney. Its all about the midfield. I would rather a Shannon Byrnes Koby Stevens. Chapman is nearly done as is Hayes. We should also look at some of the opposition depth players like a Knights, Stevens, Byrnes, Reimers types. Our current depth players like Dunn, Morton, Bail, Bennell, Bate are either too slow or make too many turnovers which is really killing us.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
