I'm really happy with all of these inclusions. Pleased to see Bate back in given his run and their lack of puff as the game progresses. Davey has earned another go and Joel M never gives less than 100%. Bail continues to improve and will become a regular so needs to be played.

Yet another 'season-defining' game - is there such a thing as a non 'season-defining' game for the Dees? Can hardly wait.

Line in the sand game this 1.

By rights , with our mature bodies in the wet weather we should absolutely beat the beejeezus outta them both physically and on the scoreboard.

I want us to give Sheedy a healthy taste of his own medicine as the smug plick has mocked us all week.

About Morton: either I'm the only sane man in a world of footy morons, or (more likely) Cale's performance against the Pies sucked more than I thought it did. Still, I'm sorry to see him out. I'm even more sorry to see Blease dropped.

In the main I have been able to follow and understand Neeld's team selections for most of this year. But I am astounded that Blease is dropped when others less worthy have retained their spot. His form has not been brilliant but has been good enough and he is a big part of our future. And then they bring in Joel Mac again!!! Davis has earnt a place also and is a far better disposer of the ball that Joel Mac.

Obviously I don't know the inner workings of the selection committee but I am more uncomfortable with team selection this week than I have been for a while.

I suspect that both Blease and Morton might be out because they infringed team rules in their last game. If that's the case then the omissions are warranted and what the club needs from them is to demonstrate back at Casey a more disciplined team approach.

I know that's a difficult pill to swallow for players and supporters alike when you're 1 and 10 but that's what you need to succeed in the big league.

Let's get used to it.

I Think this may be as good as we can field at the moment.

Unlike a lot of Demonlanders I do not have a man crush on Blease.

I did not think he was in the top 10 against the pies

and as WJ says there maybe reasons we are unaware of influencing this decision.

Blease also injured himself in the essendon game so maybe he still has some effects from that. But happy to see Bate back.

Scully will be shattered, he wont have his mate out there to hug after the game.

Also if Davey cant get back into some sort of good form this week then he is in serious trouble.

Bottom line is we must win or its another week from hell from the media and Mark Neeld doesnt need another week of crap.

not sure about Bate but am happy that Davis has been named an emergency. It gives him encouragement that he is close to senior selection. We dont know about matchups, injuries behind the scenes. When not privy to such information I think it is very hard to be critical. What I dont understand is why Couch doesn't seem to be getting a senior gig. I cant remember if he has been nominated as an emergency in the past. I am sure if their selection is warranted that many of the Casey boys will gain a spot in the seniors when decisions have to be made as to who stays and who is gawn.

If gws wanted to, they could talk any mfc player (ie blease) into walking out and putting there name in for pre season draft with the guarantee of a free player couldnt they ?

Yes, that doomsday scenario is also possible. However, GC is currently last so that would be a spanner...

What more does Troy Davis have to do to get a game? He looked impressive in the nab cup and by all reports is having a stellar year with Casey, I just don't understand why joel mac keeps getting a run.

I tell you what, Stef Martin would have to consider himself unlucky not to get a call up after a 4 goal haul against cooling wood vfl.

From memory Lucas Cook kicked a couple in that game also but Dunn gets yet another chance at half forward? Surely a game against kids would be a great chance to see where our kids are at in their development

Love Blease, but guys get dropped.

I mean, those four words are a shock to blokes even at my level, but it happens...

I agree old dee. He was poor defensively against the pies and this continues to be his problem. Morton ok but neither player offers enough physical grunt. This game is not about the furure it is about the now. I have no doubt Neeld has picked the side he thinks will maximise our chance of winning this particular match. We will physically smash them on Sunday, of that i have no doubt. That doesn't necessarily mean we'll win of course but i think we will and the line, which is into 21 points is luxury

Really disappointed with the big bodies philosophy being used here. It' seems simplistic and naive, particularly given the fact it's been at least 7 years since we physically intimidated any team ( incl gold coast). Huge risk underestimating the skill and pace of the GWS kids. This just became a legitimate danger game. How blease,, a kid in reasonable form who we want to be an important part of our future, gets dropped now, is beyond me.

I don't understand all the love for Bail. He's quick. That's about it.

When is the last time he did anything of note, besides a Daniel Ward dash/out on the full combo.

Bate and Joel Mac? It's GWS ffs. Why not email and tell them we're petrified of losing to them, it'd be just as obvious.

Instead of giving a couple of young KPP's taste, against other young KPP's, we bring in the garbo's to collect some rubbish disposal and bully some kids around. Spew.

Team rules broken? If taking the game on is a team rule then Blease is definitely guilty.

You telling me Moloney, Sylvia or even Howe haven't broken team rules?

Underwhelming selections. If you're happy with them you must be having a jolly old time this season because you're easily pleased.

Garbage.

I like that good solid hard at-it team players like Tom Mac and Jack Watts are rock solid, while fumbles and fancy pants get dropped.

I thought when Blease went for the glory shot late last game he should have passed to Clark... and Cale, you can't destroy your teams momentum in the third and expect not to be dropped.

Good luck to the boys coming in.

Go Melbourne

Smash them

Im just a bit worried with our recent form after the bye........Im really hoping this has been addressed. Having said that our wet weather form has improved dramatically......Dees by 22.

Since the fixture came out, this is the game that I have been looking forward to most. Some interesting selections (or non-selections) this week, but I'm sure that Neeld & Co know what they're doing. More mature bodies = more mature bodies to bulldoze HWFUA. If HWFUA is demolished this week I think I will be able to move on from the bitterness and resentment that I have been feeling for the past 9 months.

On the contrary, if you're sucked in by Blease giving the odd cameo performance, but not necessarily following instructions and doing the nuts and bolts stuff, then I'd say that it's you who are easily pleased.

Hopefully, Sam is going to be a great player for us, but the last thing we need is Col Sylvia mark 2, where 5 years down the track you ask yourself what happened.

Toughen up people. One of the reasons we're in this mess is because too often in the past we failed to make the hard choices.

Blease also injured himself in the essendon game so maybe he still has some effects from that. But happy to see Bate back.

Dont worry, he ll still have sylvia to have a laugh with and to make plans for after work drinks with

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
