Melbourne gets better of Tom Scully trade

I'd be surprised if any of the players feel as bitterly towards Scully as we supporters do.

Maybe he didn't get along with some players, maybe some will take the "culture" rejection personally, but I expect handshakes and smiles at the end of the match.

personally id rather the player ( Mfc ) smiled and patted each other as they walk away leaving the scarred and broken bodies of that other mob.

There is far too much niceness for my liking.. After the game, dwon the pub sure...fine. On the field they are the enemy.. they are not your friends.

There is not enough hurt demonstrated by Demons at games end for mine. just another day at the office for many. wrong wrong wrong

The problem is that we are taking $cully's attitude and behavior after games for us personally, as if he hated the club. He acts exactly the same playing for GW$, so it's just his personality.

Agree Mickey 'O'. He plays with the same persona at GWS that he did at our club. I've been watching him closely but I don't expect a couple spruiking 'the vibe' they apparently received to take note. He remains exactly the same [censored] he always was.

Maybe i should but your dry sense of humour is quite prominent, i just find it really negative, then i am overly positive admittedly

I am only negative in some of my posts because i want the club to get it right this time, on & off the field. They are doing ok but mistakes (big ones) have been made in the last 5 years. We have to get it right.

Otherwise we won't make it long term.

18 teams is too many.

Exactly. Which is what should have been acted upon before we drafted the little turd liar.

I am glad $cully is gone, but i will always be [censored] off we lost a number one pick.

Tambling 4, Franklin 5.

Pav is the only champion #4 pick.

The thing is Hawthorn set themselves up with one good draft. Franklin, Roughead and Lewis in the one draft. Draft well this time around and we could be set up for the next decade.

Yep. This draft is absolutely crucial to the future of the MFC. another decade of crap and FA will finish the club.

We must get it right.

Even if we use pick 3 on viney we still get the 3rd best player in this draft with the compo pick so there is no need to talk about pick 4

I dunno. Maybe the cynic in me but theres a certain feeling of deja vu about an inpending draft and the verocity of its importance.

Free Agency will rip this list apart if we do not start winning.

This draft is F$&@ing crucial

3 picks in the top 20. This is it.

They had a tremendous 2001 draft. Ladson, Hodge and Mitchell. You can't say they're set up because of one draft.

One amazing thing about the 2001 draft which we completely and utterly F**CKED UP:

5 Brownlow medals (and I reckon Ablett could make it 6 this year)

4 Norm Smith medals

youd like to think 3 picks would net somethiing..and something bloody good. We know what were geting with Viney. That in itself is a rare win, theres no guessing here, hes a bone fide gun. He still needs work, he still will have to step up but we know he has that in him. No pencil in here, get the texta out. . He will command a high pick. other teams will make sure of that. Two picks to get ONE other decent player. Youd think that was a lockin but we know better.

I think this is very much more about the selction lads knowing what they are after...really know and pickiing accordingly upon some really thorough homework.

How is that Wyl, free agency is no different to us then any other club barring Pies, Bombers, Hawks and interstate clubs, most of the decent kids we have, have only been at the club 3-5 years so they are not free agents for another 3-5 years and they are not unrestricted for another 5-7 so if we haven't started winning by that stage it will mean no other club would touch them

Is there ever a time when you are not so negative, I have talked people out of committing suicide who are more positive!

Lets not lose sight of the draft being a lottery at times, yes you need recruiters to do their homework but there are always Fyfe's, Selwoods, Zharakis', Bartels who for one reason or another fall into your lap beause they are not rated as high as others.

Or you can finish low down in a year when there are freaks in the draft, 2003 we finish down low in a draft that very few have really turned the footy world upside down. Another year and those picks 3 & 5 could have been Roughead & Buddy or Thomas & Pendlebury

Chris JUDD fell into Meth Coasts lap in 2001 at Pick 3 and was the final piece in the puzzle with Kerr, Cousins & Gardiner who went down and was replaced by Cox.

For these reasons I am dead against the suggestion from another thread in giving up pick 3 & 4 to get pick 1, I think 2 tips in the Top 5 will give you long term depth and a better chance of improving your list overall

If we do not get this club winning soon...over the next 3-5 years our list will be bought by the stronger clubs.

Once that happens there will be little to fight for...i saw Fitzroy go...

We have to get this draft right 100%..it is crucial..if you think that is negative PSD i apologize, i consider it reality

The years 2008-11 were nowhere near as good as they should have been.

Unless we are getting Sidebottom of course we keep 3 and 4.

However, if GWS agree to get us in the 17 year old mini draft for Pick 3 - and an agreement that pushes Viney to the second round of course - than I would do that in a heart beat as it would mean we would mean effectively swapping Pick 23ish for the highest rated 17 year old in the land.

Because without a deal - Viney will be 3.

He'll be worth it but let's try and get a deal done.

No one in their right mind would trade pick 1 for pick 4 and 13.

Past pick 4s have included Morton, Fiora, Ray. Past pick 13s have included Matthew Bate, Tom Lynch (x-Stkilda), Mitch Brown (geelong nothing player).

Pick 1 is a lock great player (or should be at least).

I won't enter the debate about whether picks 4 and 13 are as good as pick one, as I agree with you that on the surface they shouldn't be, although I don't rate some pick ones, such as Gibbs, but I will point out that you're making the same error that nearly everyone makes when analysing the value of draft picks.

You, and others, list many players that have previously gone at picks 4 and 13 as evidence that those picks are a lottery. And while there are no guarantees in any draft your premise is flawed. Assuming we have to unfortunately use pick 3 on Viney we have an entire field to choose from after the first two picks when it comes to pick 4. My point being ? When you list all of the pick 4's that you don't rate you're dismissing all of the other players that were available to those clubs at the time. Don't just list the pick 4's, list all of the players that went at 5/6/7/8/9/10/11/ and 12, because they were in play when that club got to its pick 4. The fact that the clubs in question may have chosen poorly has no consequence when discussing the value of pick 4. It's about getting the pick right. It's the same with pick 13. A club may choose Matty Bate, but players such as Hannebery, Shuey, Sloane, Darling, Rockliff, Beams, Ballantyne and countless others have been chosen in various drafts after pick 13. The value in picks 4 and 13 are not defined by the choices other clubs have previously made.

I understand why some supporters confidence may have been shaken with regard to our capacity to use our picks wisely, but I hope you understand the point I'm making.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
