Our top pick and our pick straight after as Scully compensation are off the table...but why wouldn't we use any other pick plus a player to get Boak?

I rate him. Would be happy to use our mid first rd compensation pick + Sylvia for Boak.

Presuming we finish 3rd last (big if ATM!) and GWS and GC stay out of Viney stakes, could be picks 3 and 4 plus Boak and Viney! For saypick 12 and Sylvia.

Competition is Geelong, Carlton and Essendon. All will likely be top 8 so picks will be lower than our mid round scully compo pick.

Just got to hope Boak has some sort of interest in going from one battler club to another!

Apparently Primus has given Boak 3 weeks to give the club an answer with regards to his intentions.

what can primus do if Boak dosnt give an answer?

drop him for the year? that ll do hell of a lot of good for the culture down there

My nephew played at Torquay for a couple of years. Boaks father Roger won a couple of B&F's there and has the grandstand named after him IIRC. You would think Geelong would have the inside running.

I don't understand your logic in this one bit sorry.

Well, they probably haven't thought it through that far yet, but are using it as a tacet threat of action by going public with that statement. At least they are attempting to put themselves on the front foot, unlike us when Scully was holding out.

We didn't go public, but the club certainly pressured him for an answer. And he'd already signed...

Yes, but by going public, they are putting him in the firing line... and themselves to an extent, because if he doesn't give them a definitive answer, then they will have to be seen to take some sort of action.

Good on him. If you are rebuilding a club it's no use taking up a place in the side with someone who is not going to be with you. It would be a different proposition if you were a realistic final chance but they are not.

Geelong may be the ideal scenario, but if they cant do a deal, then MFC could still be a far better option family wise, being 1.5 hours away instead of about 6-7.

Having the picks ect and leverage will get deals done

I could be wrong but my understanding is Boak and his family are bluebaggers, but IMO like Judd, Franklin & Pendles it means nothing romantic notion but if we want him we need to sell ourselves, media and many demonlanders believe on field ATM we haven't a hope in selling ourselves but we need to get into his manager now and sell the vision and the big part Boak (and whoever else we are targetting) play in it

Like your thinking. I'd table pick 12 and Sylvia for him, too.

Probably not enough but worth a punt.

If we dont finish last then the whole season has been a waste of time(IMO)

The sad thing is, that on his day Colin Sylvia can play as well as Boak.

Any ideas why he's struggling so much?

Unwilling to do the hard work required to be a top player. Simple as that.

Got the cash, the girls, the image ... but not the drive.

I love the line that Primus is taking with Boak. If anything such an ultimatum will drive Boak from a "I want to play with Port or come home to Geelong" to "I want to play with anyone except Port". If Boak was playing for one of the big 4 Victorian clubs and not Port who no one watches the perception of his value would be very different.

Was more playing on that Torquay is minutes from Geelong angle, the blues may be a chance but i dont know if they can do the best deal or how good it will be?

Players going to the club they barracked for a a kid? when did that last happen?

So Carlton doesn't have salary cap concerns that Norm Smith's Curse thought they had?

Since when has Carlton ever been concerned with the salary cap?

Sylvia is the one player who I simultaneously love and hate at the same time - I want to get rid of him yet don't want to let him go in case he ever puts a consistent season together. He has it all (fitness, speed, strength, long kick, strong overhead, can kick goals) and there is no reason why he couldn't be a top 5 midfielder in the comp up there with Ablett & Judd. But he's not and for that reason the practical side of me wants to trade him and get whatever we can. The emotional side of me thinks what if Neeld/Craig/Misson can get in his head and turn him around? He could be one of our best midfielders ever and one of the elite AFL players. But chances are he won't be which is why it's probably in both our interests to part ways and send him to a club like Sydney who may be able to get the best out of him.

I have to disagree with you there. Sylvia is a powerful burst finisher and link-man, but he's not creative or smart around the stoppages. He's a 'see ball get ball' kind of guy, where the best mids have vision and time that only the greats possess.

Posted

Yeah that may be fair enough - I guess I meant he had all the physical attributes and skills to be able to be up there although I think he has shown in the past he can play smart and creative football just hasn't done it consistently which is obviously the reason for our consternation. I think the only thing stopping him really is inside his head.

Spot on, his peripheral vision and decision making are not good enough for him to be the player most think he should be.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
