OK just watched the VFL highlights on the MFC page:

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/

He features early on and looked pretty good, taking marks out in front ect, nothing super amazing but glad he is getting in amongst it.

I have been skeptical on him as he came into the club quite small then got injured i believe. But he showed a bit of run and is a big tall size. Similar to the height not talent at this stage of a Kurt Tippet. 200cm i mean which is dangerous, and looks mobile.

Just hope he keeps on improving,

After seeing him play easily the best game Ive seen this kid play yesterday, I expect he will be in the seniors sooner rather than later. Definitely

has a big upside in that he has size and pace for his size, and appears to read the play quite well. Skills arent super polished, but one to watch

over the next month for sure!

Jack has apparently been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, according to seven news just now, spent 2 days in hospital but the club will look into a strategy to manage this along with his career. I imagine thsi will be pretty simple to work arround?

Anyone got any specialisation in this area?

On the 7 news tonight it was reported bt Tim Watson that Jack Fitzpatrick is suffering from Type 1 diabetes which can be a very serious Illness. Wish him well.

Good luck to Jack, this guy cant take a trick, chronic Fatigue in his junior days and now type 1 Diabetes. From MFC site article, he and the club have contacted past and present players from other clubs to see how they managed the condition, great to hear them leaving no stone unturned in aiding him.

Here is the MFC article:

With full time doctors and dieticians on the payroll, he is probably in the perfect environment to manage his diabetes.

As if!!!! This guy gets the chronic fatigue and now this. GOD, speak about not being able to take a trick. Good luck is all I have to say :(

I'm no expert, but I doubt it will have much effect on his footy career. In later life it will most certainly be a challenge. I know of someone in their mid forties that was diagnosed in their early 20's that has recently undergone a kidney/pancreas double transplant.

Poor bugger - as they say above, just cannot take a trick. But if well managed he should be able to progress in his footy career and live a long and productive life. It is however a lifelong challenge.

As I vaguely recall there was a top rate Richmond player who "came out" as a type 1 diabetic. Can anyone remember who this was.

PS MODERATORS - can this be amalgamated into the JF thread which I have just discovered has already addressed this issue?

Probably a misdiagnosis of CFS when is was diabetes all along .

All our players should claim CFS which would legally entitle them to play on steroids like Al "Sleepy" Lynch did before he took to becoming a sleazebag player agent.

Shattered for fitzy!all the best brother!

Sam Reid (GWS) and Jamie Cripps both have the same condition, as does the great Dale Weightman. The Flea managed it right throughout his career. Needs careful management but others have shown it is no impedimant to a successful sporting career.

All the best to Jack Fitzpatrick, & his family. they've been through some issues along the way.

I hope all goes well from here on with the best of health you could hope for Jack.

Poor kid, it's not a very pleasant illness to live with.

Wish him all the best!

I've been living with it for 20 years.......

Was diagnosed when I was very young and you just learn to adjust.

It would be so much harder to learn how to cope when diagnosed at his age.

I feel for the poor kid. It really isn't much fun, but he will be fine once he figures it out over time.

The CFS probably affected his pancreas over the years which lead to the T1 diabetes.

Hope it's manageble and does not stall his career.

Dale Weightman carried it through a fairly illustrious career.

It's a tough thing to have to carry through life but it's things like this that can steel a person and take them on to high achievement.

Good luck to Jack. I think he's made of the right stuff to take this on.

Funny mine went the other way around.....

After years of debilitating hypoglycemic episodes my body simply gave out. Was diagnosed with CFS soon after.

The Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is awful. I had to quit work and was sleeping up to 17 or so hours a day.

I wish Jack all the best with his current (and ongoing) struggles, not simply because we all do, but because I understand his illnesses. Intimately.

I think Nathan Bassett also coped pretty damn well with his diabetes.......

That's interesting. Maybe Fitzy had juvenile diabetes that wasn't diagnosed properly, progressed to CFS and has now turned out to be T1.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
