MCG to Install Prayer Rooms !

Actually we could build a minaret on top of the Members Stand and have Call to Prayer sound out over the speakers just to remind those interested that it was time, that way if they forgot their watches it wouldn't matter.

Not really fussed about this, but I just find all religions to be contemptible. How do people living in supposedly enlightened 21st century civilisations still believe this ancient superstitious rubbish? Time to evolve people and that includes evolving your beliefs.

We could have one as well for the Scientologists, Orange People, Hindus, Jews, Mormons, Family of God, Brethren, Pentecost etc. etc. why not just build a temple for all religions in the parklands next to the G with a tunnel from the ground directly in to it.

The Brethren aren't allowed to eat with non Brethren so perhaps we could incorporate a small Cafe in their part.

Do you have a problem with the prayer rooms for some reason?

I'm yet to hear a valid complaint.

Maybe if it were going to impact on you in some way, or if you were being deprived of something in relation to your religious beliefs, then you'd have some sort of argument.

It's not a temple, it's a small bloody room to give them some peace & quiet so they can pray.

It's a well known established practice.

It's all about providing for people of that persuasion so they feel welcome at the footy and don't have an excuse to not come.

I abhor religion and I think it's the root of most things that are wrong with the world, but I try to still be understanding of others beliefs.

And there is a distinct lack of that in this thread.

It seems to me that some religions are trying to take people back to the stone age.

Yeah I do, if they want to pay the cost of the room, rent and upkeep than perhaps not, but to single out any religion for special treatment is wrong.

I'm against all religion but if people must practice it they should do it at their own place and at their own cost and on their own time. Not that I have to justify my reasons or anything else to you by the way, you have a view and I have a view let's leave it at that.

Oh! and WTF should Muslims get any special treatment when others don't. No need to answer that.

Personally it doesnt bother me. But can I just ask how the muslims coped before the AFL came up with this. I mean it's not like they are a new breed of people who just dropped onto our planet.

I hope that the AFL pay and the clubs dont have to fork out the money for this. I just think that would be unfair.

I did like the cartoon in wither the age or the herald sun where they had a melbourne fan at the front of the queue waiting to go in.

So, let me get this straight, prayer rooms are already in place at three AFL stadiums, including our own.

There is a request to extend that to other interstate grounds.

People have a whinge about the cost, of which I doubt they have any idea of a figure and to further highlight that I doubt that they knew that such rooms already existed at the MCG, Etihad or ANZ Stadium.

Honestly, what a non "issue."

Its O.O.O

I've spent more time in there, than actually watching the footy of late.

1: The contrete is too thick, my prayers havent been getting through

2: its underground, I asked for one to be on top of the Ponsford,so I could do my Moses impersonation

3: No compass provided or gps, I lost my bearings, and didnt know where east or west was.

4: no sacrifice alter provided to burn medallions etc

5: couldnt find an ashtray or bins for the empty cans

Bascially needs some work.

What about a naughty room ?? Confessional box?

28 Minute Mark of the last Quarter 2013 GF Melbourne v Hawthorn

Scores level....Jeremy Howe takes a screamer 45 out...Northern side of the MCG is going off to the point of insanity....

"just popping out for a prayer dear....back in 5"

Aah religion....it is so.....

The rooms already exist, so i do not really care...They are not for me.

I agree Robbie although I would not have put it so strongly. User pays seems to be the fairest.

As well as being atheist I'm also a cynic and I think the AFL is doing it for the $$$s/publicity more than any altruistic reasons

I don't know if our sporting institutions or any public institutions should be comforting the superstious, the metaphysicians or the witch doctors in our community. Haven't they got enough places to worship their particular deities around town.

So if a majority of the public don't go to church and don't consider themselves religious why do ' public ' institutions have to cater for a dwindling minority.

If they build a special one for Rastafarians then I'm all for it .

Watching Melbourne play makes me reach for my special medicine .

In my personal opinion ,this is a lot of garbage and all those who suffer from religious delusion should bow down for 2.5 hours of Demon worship.

I dont care what race you are-I care even less about your religion .

Build me a FKN Rasta room now!

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
