Can we just not play Bail in the forward pocket?? Any impact he can have on the game in terms of run out of the back half is going to waste.

I'd have no qualms making wholesale changes. Tappy is a given, who along with Morton should hopefully clean up our disposal a bit. Hopefully. Moloney, Couch, Martin and Strauss the others to come in. Hesitant on Blease. He looks continually disinterested and needs to really prove himself in the seconds before getting another shot.

Bennell, Joel Mac and Dunn would be the first 3 to go for mine.

I have a feeling Green will step up against the Tiges. I refuse to believe he has slipped as far as that game would suggest. We're only 2 weeks in at the end of the day. Likewise I can't see Jamar playing any worse than he has the first couple of games.

Unfortunately Nicholson has terrible disposal as well, we need someone who can hit a target

IN- moloney, martin, tapscott, morton, blease

OUT- green, bennell, sellar, bartram, macdonald

Ben Hur - well done mate, great post.

Big Red - I'm agreeing with you (and sadly the fox footy commentators). Anyone on our list capable of running through the midfield should play next week and only use our KPP. As much as I like Sellar I think that he has to go back to the 2's as Frawley, Garland and Riv can lock up the backline.

So Tappy, Blease, Tynan, Morton, Malony need to come in. Howe running though the mid/back was a good move and Pettard needs to be doing this as well.

Can't wait for the draft and we pick up 3 first round mids. Shall be beautiful!

I live overseas and havent seen any footy yet but can you guys give me an opinion on Sellers ability to take CHF. I havnet seen any footage of him but would he provide enough of a target to open up a hole in front of Clark and allow Watts to stay further up the ground as a link out of defence. Seller seems to be a big bloke. Is he mobile and can he hold a grab?

We may as well give young Tynan another go. He ran out of puff in his first game but before that he was actually ok. You know he'll give you 100% and put his head over it and that's enough. More than I can say for Brad Green who has been replaced by Bate into the starting line up who can at least win the ball occassionally even if he can't exert forward pressure. Joel Macdonald can have a week off. He borders on inept. Let's give Couch a shot.

The last position is hard to fill but Bennell coming on as a sub might be able to produce something and we can't promote substandard VFL performers, it's not worth it. Sellar can keep his spot over Martin as he deserves to prove himself as a back up ruck/forward in a game where the ball actually comes to the forward line and not against the best ruck partnership in the league. Moloney can prove he's got more to offer than Magner, McKenzie, Jones or Couch, either through the VFL or a week more of strong training.

I agree, although it's a toss up between Strauss and Blease for mine. Let's see how they both pull up braz!

Strauss over Blease - one has speed (sometimes) the other gives it his all and at the moment we need both but I would rather see a player put in 100%

Yeah -- I had similar thoughts regarding his tenure as defence coach, which seemed strange to me as an appointment and from the results. I had thought that his experience as a top mid may have qualified him for the job, but.......?

In fact does he have any coaching credits at all?

Did anyone else hear the commentator on Sat say that he overheard Jamar arguing with Royal at either quarter or three quarter time.

I like some of your reasoning and selections Master. Here's what I came up with after some umming and ahhing..I could easily go with some of yours instead..its so open. And what I see in either one is lots of room for rotations and movement within the game..nearly every player could play in different positions. If I looked again tomorrow I could easily come up with a few different choices too...

Don't mean to nit-pick but you've missed out on mentioning and therefore removing JB from the team to play the Tigers.

Sort of says it all for me. JB does not have a role to play in this side and will (MUST) be traded at years end.

Yeah, Bennell's played his last game in a Melbourne jumper.

Yep thanks for spotting that McQueen..I should have added Martin as in and Jamie B out. Cheers :)

Moloney will win this game for us on the weekend.

He has to EARN his place back in the team first.

As I have mentioned elsewhere, IF in fact he tried to hide an injury and went into last week's game underprepared or unfit, he deceived the coach and selectors and let down his team-mates...and should be made to come back through Casey. It would not be the first time he has tried this.

Are you for real?!

The way some posters here have turned on our reigning BnF, our best clearance player, our best midfielder, and a player highly tipped to have been named captain, is absolutely disgraceful. Say what you want about his abilities, but he has been one of very few players to give 100% of what they have to give every week, don't you think we need that at the moment?

To accuse such a player of deceiving their team mates etc is a baseless gutless call and you should have a think about about what you're saying (which may be a first judging by your post).

He was rested due to injury, why would MFC play cloak and dagger about it when they dropped Davey etc? Sure, he didn't have a great Round 1, but I really don' think there's many players ahead of him for a midfield spot if you want to talk about "earning" it.

He gets an almighty bagging but Morton needs games in him. If the club is fair dinkum re structures and long term success he simply must play. Yes, he's had some shocking games but so have they all. He is just the type of player to be perservering with. If you look at a number of Geelong's backs, they too needed to learn their craft......and they did.

For starters, he provides run and spread.

Posted

Monoccular, are you serious when you demand that Moloney must earn his spot. It's one thing being critical, but you surely need to keep things in perspective. He should be a walk up start if fit. Go back to Casey........surely you're kidding.

Posted

I guess what you need to look at is whether or not you think Morton deserves a game on form, not on his high draft. The most frustrating thing from week to week is playing guys that aren't going to be in a premiership team with Melbourne. For example, Jamie Bennell, Joel MacDonald, Brad Green, Aaron Davey, Matthew Bate and probably (being harsh) Jared Rivers, Lynden Dunn.

Saying that, the match committee is in a hard spot, because as much we all want whole sale changes, they aren't going to drop 6 players. The best we can hope for is

Out - Bennell, MacDonald, Green and maybe Dunn

In - Moloney, Martin, Tapscott/Couch, Morton

And for all those wanting Blease to get a game...must be earned. Not a walk up start.

I just want to know why Morton hasn't developed. Looked to be a gun in his first year, has now gone backwards...hope the same doesn't go for Grimes and Trengove.

Posted

Lucifer, I agree that he's gone backward but I also think that the boy can play. He's played predominantly off half back but I would love him to play higher up the ground. As I said, his strength is/was that he's a runner.

Posted

I do agree re Blease. He appears to be a fringe player at best right now. I did find it strange that he spent 3 quarters against Brisbane doing very little until subbed for Bate who did well

Could not agree more RR.

To be traded first you have to have some value.

But off the books liberates a spot on the list and salary.

That is IMO the best we can hope to get

Big fan of that team I would keep russian for one more game not for his sake but Fitzy's kicking around the ground is awful. But I haven't seen a Casey game this year and would happily be corrected by someone who has.

Yes another great drafting selection.

He has one attribute he is a dasher.

But could not hit the side of a barn from 20 metres.

Even at Casey he does not show up as a class act.

Thanks Cowboy..yes would be great to see Mark Jamar play a good game and to get back to his best. Fitzy gets a mention in KC's Casey Scorpions thread..mentions good ruckwork and marking around the ground and a great goal on the run..but kicking needing improving. :)

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
