AFL Employee leaked info about indigenous players

If you think about it logically, if it's been around a few weeks, going back through the timeline... it would be around the time of the Jurrah incident in Yuendumu.

Now, I know Jurrah can speak english and it would've improved exponentially since being in Melbourne, but I think it's very possible something has been lost in translation during discussions with Mifsud as part of his role, and this is the culmination of that.

No malicious intent, but some very damaging rumours have been spread.

My question is: why the hell has Grant Thomas been involved in this rumour-mongering?

THAT is why I think Mifsud should go.

Don't even go there, we don't need to guess the source, this could do great damage to our club and Shwab needs to sort it out with the AFL. Will be interesting to hear him on SEN later today.

As much as Mifsud is in the wrong, I still think Grant Thomas is the main one in the wrong here. He is the one who put a very damaging comment out there with nothing but a sketchy source, and then puts a flippant remark like 'It may not have happened?'. And then when Neeld takes calls him and tells his side he takes the article down and thinks that all is well. Seriously, the football media is hitting all time lows at the moment.

Yep, I understand that, but I think it must be conceded that this tidbit has come out of this incident directly or indirectly, considering the timing.

Even if it was just from a journalist sniffing around for info on Jurrah and overheard something then misinterpreted it.

Not at all - what business does Mifsud have sharing this private conversation with Thomas??

If the source is a MFC player they should go.

It is that simple

Do not hold your breath WJ.

Counselling will be the order of the day

It's more serious than that.

If he doesn't go then nobody from any club, be they an official or player, would have any confidence in discussing any issue with an AFL official.

Demtriou should set the example and if he doesn't want to accept Mifsud's resignation then he should resign himself.

Right now, the AFL is a sewer.

I'm not defending Mifsud at all. I think he should get the arse personally. But I just hated Grant Thomas' smugness on FC, that he thinks he can just throw damaging content out there into the public arena, with no proof and then just retract it, and he thinks all is well.

The source was a player from within our club. The problem came from within our club & it just so happened that there was no confidentiality between Mifsud & that player as Mifsud then went & blabbed to Grant Thomas.

No way Thomas is a paid Journo, it is his job to dig and report, if someone is stupid enough to make comments to a someone in the media they deserve the what they get. There is no such thing as off the record the media is just as competitive as playing AFL the more you can unearth the longer you keep your job

Mifsud offered his resignation and Andy D said no thanks.

...so as to maintain (the failed pretence of) integrity at AFL HQ??

You are correct that it is his job to dig and report, but if you are going to put something so potentially damaging out there, you would want to make sure that it is correct. And since it is not, he should be held accountable for it. As I said, not defending Mifsud at all, he should get the arse aswell. I am just very disillusioned with the football media at the moment.

Allegedly....allegedly......allegedly! You are jumping to conclusions that Mifsud and Thomas didn't just dream this up to damage MFC.

Who is this Mifsud anyway? Ex player? How did he get into AD's bed??

But even if the source was a mfc player talking to mifsud he may have said something quite harmless and mifsud has misunderstood and overreacted

If that was true Why would he not go straight to Vlad and say there is a big problem at the MFC.

Instead he passes the info to a Commentator.

Some thing is wrong with this story.

If Rendell's position was declared untenable, then how on earth is Mifsud going to perform his duties? No one will want to engage with the "Community Engagement Officer"!

Well this will be another reason why the team will get beaten up at subi

We don't respond well to adversity and this sort of thing can just end up getting players not trusting each other

It would be good if he spoke to some of the players one on one before casting aspersions on their prospects in the media. Not a good start imo.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
