It seems obvious to me that he was simply trying to prevent a dispute from escalating and because he was at the scene and intimately involved, he was taken in for questioning.

So howcome suggesting this is gonna really effect his year as an MFC footballer is suddenly deletable?

Posted

It's front and centre on our website.. how could they miss it?

You dont think a potiential sponser would be keeping an eye on whats happening at the club? Now that would be a stupid assumption..

Keeping an eye yes but if a potential sponsor already believes that LJ has done something illegal then I wouldn't want their sponsorship.

Question

When do people expect that a conclusive update about the goings on will be provided?

I'm hoping within the next 12 hours we will have a more concrete understanding of what has happened.

Please don't use common sense before posting chook it seems it is not required on this thread.

Irrelevant as to guilty or not here is my say on the incident.

Jurrah is guilty of putting himself in that position and it is here where my sympathy for footballers ends.

I often feel they get the rough end off the stick in how much scrutiny they recieve however, Jurrah and Sylvia must be made accountable for their actions because they themselves made the choices to hang around the people(s) who are committing these mental lapses.

The club itself has done a fantastic deed in allowing Liam to his time and space as requested; they were well within their rights to deny that action and all this says to me is a lack of respect by Liam to the MFC. I know he probably bleeds Red and Blue but a sane man cannot tell me you don't walk away when your mate pulls out a machete. The thought of him having one in his hand and potentially committing a crime is even more f***** and christ almighty I cross every muscle on my body its not the case.

Yeah, true... Though I'd be interested to see if any kind of arrest record, even a short term one, has led to sponsors pulling out in the past. From memort there was a TAC one that pulled out years ago... but I can't remember the circumstances. Callous as it may be to say this, it can work out in their favour to stick with him through this.

I highly doubt Liam has done wrong. To me he strikes me as too intelligent to get in to trouble.

Touch wood it is actually a case of wrong place wrong time....

However...I get you need to look out for family, but how many times is this sort of thing going to come about where he must go home for this reason or that during a season.

We are on the verge of another important season and Liam has to leave to sort tribal issues? And now it looks a whole lot worse!

I dont think Liam will be back personally..but I really hope I am wrong..

MFC wont stand for this...not now.We are in to good a place financially and on field getting all things back on track.

Hiccups will not be tolerated anymore & when it comes to big dollar sponsors awaiting to sign on the dotted line MFC wont want bad press now and will want this shut down quickly.

Liam you are a gun when you want to be...I hope this isnt the end mate.

Pretty sure it was Wellingham who was busted for Drink driving a couple of years ago. It wasn't the first incident with drink driving so they pulled out of Collingwood.

For my part DL7, I prefer to go with the idea that I just don't know. This culture exists within our borders, and yet I could spend the rest of my life studying that culture and still not fully understand it. I think it's fair to be annoyed about this... but laying blame on him, I can't get there with the facts we have, even with this thing of him being in Alice instead of further north. I can't apply my values to him.

I was thinking Richmond for some reason. But yeah... that's right. And not exactly the same thing... in that case he was guilty. Anywho... moot point until more facts come out.

Should have never put himself in that situation. There lies the first punishmemt.

I would be VERRRRYYYY surprised if Liam could even wield a machete with his wrist injury, let alone cause harm with it. Maybe I'm looking through rose-coloured lenses, but I'd be surprised if he was in custody for more than questioning.

Not that we know the whole situation, but as a community leader and elder, he probably felt compelled to step in.

If your family or friends were fighting and you were scared for their life, you wouldn't step in and intervene?

I doubt if you were in the same situation you'd give a crap about your job!

I hear ya..

But if i'm going to part with $5 million (for eg) of my hard-earned, to enter a partnership with another major company of some sort,

i wouldnt want my brand name splashed across every major news channel under the current circumstances.. ie: every news break i've seen has shown LJ in the demon guernsey..

The timing for this to happen could not be worse.

Btw - i really dont think LJ is the type to wield machetes and partake in massive gang fights - he is a leader up there for a reason.. I hope he's absolutely safe and ready to play a month or two from now..

Maybe the club should have sent some minders with him knowing the communities history.

Wasnt he granted breverment leave?

Not Tribal leadership leave?

Did he tell the club the real reason for going home?

Again...put himself in that situation.

Liam would have known how tense it would have been at home.

Was the club told the whole.truth

This is the bit that worries me...the trouble up in his community has been well reported...The MFC must have known there was a risk.

How much was known & how much was trust?

There are definitely questions to be answered.

There's a statement on the club site re why he was given leave.

Don't know what's worse, what Liam's going through, or some of the posts here.

Ridiculous.

So every time one of our footballers goes home, or goes away we need to send minders on the off chance they'll get into trouble?

I would not have guessed in a million years that Liam Jurrah would be involved in a violent incident. He has no history to cause suspicion.

Besides, he was given time off to deal with personal matters, club officials had no right being there with him.

Can we just calm down and wait for more reliable information?

I have got to say anyone who is playing with weapons like this are not someone who should be walking the streets of this country. I dont think liam will have anything to do with this sort of crime everytime i have meet him he has been very nice. I pray liam has not been to melbourne for the last time. Chanel 7 said he had the weapon but news can be bulls%%% sometimes i hope this is the case.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
