I was so traumatised watching Bambi as a child, I'm pretty certain I cried for a whole week about it.

I guess it was good preparation for watching Melbourne.

Watts will always be in the spotlight .

Indeed they will.

Watts will be a buzzword in the AFL , even if he has a few shockers .

There is an electricity about him ever since he came on the circuit .

Whether hes on or off , Watts is a power-player.

That's a very good post Biff. I remember last year, especially in the middle part of the year where he was playing some pretty good footy, I would watch the games on TV and as soon as we got it to the wing going forward, I'd just yell "kick it to Watts". Sometimes he wasn't even up forward, and I was disappointed that we didn't kick it to him. He went through a run of about 6-8 games where his presence was electric (in a positive way). He demanded the ball, work his arse off, and was getting rewarded. It hit the fan when he run out of puff toward the end of the season, and our general play was just terrible.

Bambi is actually a 'he' if IRC and at the end of the movie even becomes a father. The image foistered upon us though is the one of the young fawn; the rutting stag image is just not "Bambi".

Honestly I think the talk of Watts needing to "step up" is just a myth now

For a young KPP his output has increased each year:

Year Team Games Kicks Handballs Disposals Marks Goals Behinds Tackles Hitouts Frees For Frees Ag. Brownlow

2011 Melbourne 22 9.0 7.1 16.1 5.6 1.0 0.5 2.4 0.4 0.6 0.8 0.05

2010 Melbourne 15 7.7 4.9 12.6 4.7 0.7 0.3 1.0 0.6 0.9 0.9

2009 Melbourne 3 5.3 3.7 9.0 3.0 0.7 0.7 0.3 0 0.7 2.0

The reality is 2009 he shouldn't have played

2010 was about getting some confidence - 2011 was about him understanding he belongs

Honestly (whilst I think he will be an exceptional player) - anyone expecting him to do any more to date was merely getting in on the perception he was a dud pick up

Wouldnt say step up. But does need to continue development. COULD be anything if the coaches can get his mind to match his skills. Love his speed and flexibility as a big bloke, has an almost languid movement and teammates need to use his position and movement to advantage can feed him and feed off him. I expect Watts to be a positive contributor with others around him benefitting from his presence as well as he will benefit from Clarke and other bigger bodies around him.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
