Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The man has a clarity and forthrightedness that this club needs.

i am backing this bloke to bring our club up to standard, the rank and file need to get behind him as there as some in the old guard that will resist. In fact there was resistance before he had coached his first game and there were those in influential positions attempting to undermine him before he coached his first senior game.

There is a big picture here that needs to be sighted.

I don't get this either.

Here is a new coach laying down his KPIs, if you like, in a no nonsense no BS manner, and if you don't like it, bye bye.

Surely that is what this club needs. Doesn't care about the past - let the admin do that if they like - he just seems to want to get on with the job, his way.

Where is there ant suggestion of dissent or undermining in that clip? Am I really dumb and missing something profound?

I am not motivated by anything resembling club politics when I post here ,merely by boredom generally .I find that the site is ,on the whole ,a good distraction occasionally ruined by by axes needing a place to grind themselves .I support current administration at this time because I feel that off- field ,things are going pretty well in between machete allegations and brand new BMWs being flipped near the casino .I am happy with the coaches appointment ,and unhappy about on-field performance currently but I can see some gradual progress on that front .I reserve the right to post things on here that differ from the moderators opinions and/or the clubs .Whilst seeing that this forum could have some power in mobilising our support base for some action or another ,I think it would be a pity if things got so divided that some disgruntled dudes used this spot to run against the board or destabilise the club .In short ,I want stability for the club and to still have the right to express lunatic /ridiculous viewpoints on here . Those with an agenda are pretty easy to spot . I applaud the former mod for his decision to join the swill!

Biff you truly are the Demonalnd every-man; you are part of the lunatic fringe element, the centralists and the hard-lined moderates (whatever the hell that means). Like your avatar and namesake you can play forward and back and pinch hit in the ruck. I salute you

I just hope Mark Neeld can coach this club successfully for over a decade. He will succeed given the time.

This club needs rock hard stability to win.

Anybody who cannot pull their weight must vacate with a handshake.

We cannot just have good people. We need the best.

I was one of those critical at the start of the year, mostly made the mistake of agreeing with those that made damning posts.

BUT

I've always been a fan of Neeld. I'm still a critic of the administration, and we haven't met KPI in membership and social media, so I think someone should be held accountable for that.

That said, Neeld's aim to make us a hard team to play is working in some regards: we win the hard ball. It's just a matter of getting the fitness levels up so that players are in position. They haven't done that so far, hence the differential in uncontested possessions.

The hardest part of Neeld's take over is complete, the recalcitrants have been outed or turned to the cause. Now we need time for the new plan to bear fruit...

I mentioned this in another thread. As soon as we were looking for a coach I wnated the club to get Neeld. I know we have got the man to get uso out of this hole.

The good thing about Neeld in this clip is he doesnt sugar coat anything and there is no crap from him. He just gets straight to the point and sets out what he wants to achieve. I find him refreahing and honest and in the next few years he will get us back on track.

Too subtle for me!!!!!

Put it this way. Statistically, a club should win a premiership every 16th (now 18th) year. Yet no coach is ever given nearly that long to turn a club around. Every time you change coaches, you effectively set yourself back a few years and damage the stability of your club. While I'm not sad DB got the axe, and reckon Mark Neeld is a much better coach, it is just another in a long line of examples of coaches getting sacked before they could reasonably have been expected to give their club success. I reckon if a club went to a new coach "we'll give you a ten year contract. Do whatever you think is necessary to win a premiership in that tenth year," you'd see less follow the leader strategy and some more comprehensive plans put in place by coaches.

Stats are no doubt a wonderful thing. But if to be fair,we should give a coach a 10 year contract, then what length of tenure do stats tell us that a player should get until they should " reasonably" be expected to give their club success?

And you can tell if the list can keep playing like they did last saturday, our new coach will return respect.

He knows what a brutal sport it can be.

I read this as success for over a decade, not in a decade - just like the legendary Norm Smith!!!!

Does that scare the shite out of you?

It makes me very excited - some respond in different ways to excitement however. :-)

I am into club politics as much as the next person, but I have to say, I don't have the foggiest what you are saying!

I can understand that some will think I've lost the plot, (my left eye has been twitching feverishly and I have put masking tape over my webcam because I think the devil is watching me).

It is going to be a difficult seven weeks. It is crucial that the club sticks together during this period.

Mate, I've been waiting nearly 5 decades(That's a rosary) for success. I hope you're right.

Also I'll be interested to hear who gets the rosary pun!

With players, it's different because of the team nature of the game. The point I'm making is that the coach should be the final arbiter of which players the club persists with, and he should make these decisions with a very long term plan in place. Statistically, a player could play zero games for his club, yet that club could still win a premiership, so the comparison between player and coach tenures can't be made, IMO.

All in good fun Biff, no malice i assure you. I have a real fondness for Ray Biffen by the way. My Dad wasn't much into footy (so not sure why i'm such a nut for it) and actually barracked for Richmond - sort of. Dad was in advertising and I think his agency was handling Fable records. One day he brought home the demons theme song on a 45 single, on which Ray had scrawled a message to me and signed his name and number (19 at that stage, am i right in thinking he initially had another number?).

I loved that record. The flip side had that song that stared "When football season comes around again, the fans are streaming from the grounds again, there's a sort of fever that keeps us on our toes, hear the fans a roaring as the whistle blows.....etc etc". Still one of the very few songs (other than the dees theme song and one or two Beatles tracks) that i know all the words to.

Keep the axe sharp, that Cook fella really needs to be brought down a peg or two.

Ahh Choko, your feigned ignorance is a dead give away - you must be one those people.

To paraphrase one of my favourite films:

"i am not one of those people"

" Only one of those people would truly deny he is one of those people"

"What! Allright i am one of those people"

"HE IS, HE IS, HE IS ONE THOSE PEOPLE!"

Just kidding i know you're not really one of those people Choko, you just happened to be the first to post. And for the record i'm not either (but i would say that).

But seriously very interesting post DD. And good advice to be alert for poster's agendas on this and similar sites. It makes sense to apply the same level of analysis to social media as it does for mainstream media in this regard, particularly as it is so much easier to be take cheap shots and write (and spread) falsehoods when anonymous and there is no immediate or obvious penalty for doing so (though this protection, from a legal perspective, might be illusory)

Am I that obvious? I better change to my other profile name!!

Hail Mary

I hope it is only the five and not the fifteen decades as is one version - I can't wait around that long - and Glory Be Our Father.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
