Something a bit fun imo, name the player and one smokey

I am going with the no surprises option, or one of them and will say,

Jack Watts - Has everything required to be not only the best player on the MFC list but one of if not the best in the AFL in 3 years time imo.

He is tall, getting strong, fast, has footy smarts, and exception skills and disposal.

He can play forward back or in the middle/wing if required, i just think he is building reasonably quietly and people everywhere will just go hang on he is actually that good.

SMOKEY - Tom Mcdonald, This kid really impressed me late last season, is another tall player, who was a forward/ruck in the TAC cup.

Is only a KPP at AFL but has shown his versatile down back and by reports Neeld also sees potential in him as a forward. was cool under pressure, and kicked and marked well.

This pre-season, his first full one, he came second in the 3KM time trial for a big bloke, being shaded by the distance specialist Bail.

How good he will be, i really dont know...

Thoughts?

It's very hard to go past Jack Watts Jordie, but just to be different I'll stick with Chip Frawley to still be our best in 3 years time (no real surprises there either, I guess). I also very much like the look of Tom McD., but I'll put out the bait to Old Dee and suggest Jamie Bennell as my smokey. I know it's a very long bow to draw, but he could be our Andrew McLeod, and two Norm Smiths would have to put him right up there!

Trengove and Howe.

Has to be out of Grimes, Watts and Trengove. I choose Trengove. If you put a scale together of every skill and quality required of every footballer, regardless of position or size, Trengove would rate very highly in every category. I see him as a cross between Bartel and Gibbs.

Smokey: Jordan Gysberts. He just keeps getting to where the ball is. A few more kgs and a bit more aerobic capacity and the sky is the limit.

Gysberts would be nice

The guy is trying to model his game off pendlebury, I can see him being as good.

Only three players have the tools to be elite of players currently on our list. Watts and Trengove are two and the third is Sylvia. There's your smoky.

that would be shattering...... finds his best at 29 and wasting his whole career

This is a great thread and extremely tough to answer.

I'm going to go with trenners and wattsy. Trenners will certainly finish top 5 in a brownlow as an elite on baller and wattsy is just a freak. I was very critical of wattsy early on but every game he plays now he makes me look like a goose!

The smokeys are Howe and bennell.

James Frawley not having the tools to be elite? I think he is close already. I would not be surprised to see Gysberts, Howe and Trengove duking this out in 3 years time.

Agree with Frawley but the term ELITE means top few players in the league.

I couldnt name our last elite player......

Frawley - an elite defender, maybe. Even the best full backs (Fletcher, Scarlett, etc) are never considered their side's best player.

Howe - Seriously, get over yourselves everyone. He's (very) good ordinary but will never, ever be in Judd, Hodge, Ablett, Pendlebury category.

Clark - An interesting one. He will be very important to our structure, but best player in three years? I'd be concerned if Watts and Trengove haven't surpassed him.

Gysberts - An elite ball winner, yes, but his disposal isn't that great. He's not a great mark either. Has claims at smoky status, though, if he can improve his disposal. (just not my pick)

Watts - has all the tricks to be a match winner, there aint many players in the league that have that skill. Can he deliver it though? I think he will.

The smoky is Tapscott. He will be a favourite of the coach providing he can get his body right, and I have no doubt MN is in the ear of Misson about making sure he's 100% before he plays him. This is the type of player that every club would want, and especially our coach. Tappy could play a very important role in Neeld's quest for a premiership.

Funny how everyone has dropped off Liam Jurrah for elite...

LJ - Aged 23 - 35 Games 81 goals - freakish talent with clear areas for improvement.

JW - Aged 21 - 40 games 33 goals - loads of upside...

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
