Na , not at Gosh's paddock today- I went down at 9.45 am to be told they are doing time trials.Next open session is next Monday.

I wonder if the foo fighters will be joining the boys for training.

gee i am bloody excited about tomorrow night!!!

From @MelbourneFC Twitter.

"The boys had a time trial around Princes Park today. Top 3 were@jtren9 followed by youngster @TomMcDonald92 and then@nathan2jones.

Two of the three are expected, nice to see Trengove beating Jones though. But Tom McDonald - He continues to impress. For a big boy, 194cm & pushing 90kgs now he sure can run.

I got sucked in.

I went down and paid $15 in the carpark opposite. ($15 because there was a special event on)

Then got told about the time trials.

What a loser.

What time do they do the 3k in?

Thanks

In the first 3k time trial for the year Jones ran just over 10 minutes from memory.

Low 10's and anything under 10 is "elite".

I heard Misson mention he expected AFL players to be getting low 10's. I attempted this and only managed to get 2km in 9 min. It really is amazing how elite these guys are. (disclaimer: not very fit myself)

I wonder if Rohan Bail was fit enough to do this time trial. Either way, with his tweaked groin I would have been surprised to see him finish in the top three.

Posted

Is Bail ever not injured?

If you want to be really fit, it seems you have to walk that line between chronic injury and super endurance.

I heard lots say that. That's a kilometre rate of 3:20. Elite for a footballer maybe, but miles off 'elite' running pace.

The current world record for 3000 metres is 7:20.67 ... a kilometre rate of 2:26.

Craig Mottram has run 5000 metres at a kilometre rate of 2:36.

Ron Clarke ran 10,000 metres at a kilometre rate of 2:45 on his way to the world record way back in 1965.

World class marathoners run 42,195 metres at kilometre rate of 3:00!

It's the effort that counts Chippy.

Hahaha good stats. I think the word 'Elite' gets thrown around very loosely. Having said that 'Elite' distance runners aren't getting Bumped, Tackled and having pin point passes from 40M are they? Footballers ARE 'Elite' athletes.

Yeah, I meant "elite" for footballers.

No chance they will run times like long distance Olympic runners, completely different specimen.

Not to mention the runners don't have 90+ kg of muscle to lug around.

Now that last is just hellishly impressive. It's insane how fast those buggers go over such distances.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
