Eddie Declares War on GWS

The very reason Neeld has the backing of the board to "toughen the place up" If the MFC wish to entice players like Pendles to the club, along with FA. There can be no 5 year plans anymore. Every year is 100% Go For It now.

I like that we can relax in 2012 and watch the GWS plague descend on someone else's house. If that dark cloud were to descend on the Lexus Centre I for one would not be unhappy... :)

I'm aware that this has been mentioned before somewhere on this forum, but Pendlebury was a Demons supporter growing up. Maybe he wants to come to the MFC and be reunited with his midfield coach in 2013? Does anyone have any idea as to whether (if he wanted to come to MFC) he'd be a free agent or whether we'd have to pick him up via trade/the draft?

Judd was a Demon growing up , which did us a lot of good when the dollars called.

Eddie knows exactly what he's doing. These sorts of comments only serve to galvanise the Collingwood faithful. I don't think he's quite as dumb as he sounds - he's just aiming at his target market.

"..... this is not Melbourne where you can just walk in and steal the players . "

It wouldn't have mattered whether Scully was at Melbourne, or Collingwood , or wherever . GWS targeted him and had the rules and the AFL to back them up . Yes , I know there are major questions about following the rules

faithfully, but the AFL wanted this to happen . McGuire is using the technique of speaking offensively about the MFC to say "WE are much better than THEY are ! " , and so ,try to elevate his own perceived status and power

base, but the truth is , he would not have had the power to stop it unless he could match the offer financially .

Eddie's just doing what Eddie does best...... being Edddie !! All posturing and blah blah blah. Its what the Filth would be expecting.

Am sure that Martian Seagull will be laughing ....just like we are.

You cant keep them all Eddie...lol

Here's an interesting tweet from Balym of the Telegraph/Fox sport.

GWS won't touch Coll players, Gubby & Eddie are best mates. Gubby is Pies life member. It's all a PR stunt out of Sheedy playbook.

Whether or not he goes is one thing, but 12 months of intense speculation on the Pies sounds like great viewing.

GW$ will target whoever they wish. I don't think friendships will stop transactions. Particularly the way Pendles answered questions on his future. Let the war continue. We survived & so will otherrs.

Hope Pendlebury walks out on them and sticks it up Eddies a***. It can happen to any club Eddie, dont act as if your club is so special and it doesn't deserve to happen to your club. Furious with his comment.

still, deep down I wish we had an Eddie....

Instead of who? I wouldn't want Eddie. Not in a million years. He's exactly what's wrong with football. And he's too powerful and not nearly as smart as he thinks.

The comment about us... What a fair dinkum [censored]. When people stop being scared of him it'll be the biggest tall poppy syndrome you've ever seen. Jesus I'm sick of him. He's also the reason Pies supporters are the worst in the league. Perpetuates the "we're more important than everyone else" syndrome.

Hate him SO much.

Precisely my thoughts. I'm very thankful that we don't have to worry about losing anyone else to GW$ and we get to see the filth go through what we did last year, except with a player of much higher calibre.

I agree with Eddie's aggressive approach.

At worst, he'll ensure that his club gets the best possible compensation.

His comments about Melbourne are spot on. We silently take what's given to us and many of our supporters are prepared to cop the hits without fighting back.

That has to change.

Were the MFC silent during all this, I don't think that is entirely what happened, although it is hard to know the full deal. I am glad that our burgeoning debt has been wiped. This will allow more bargaining power in future.

He may talk tough but we got just as much as Geelong got for Ablett and what Collingwood will get for Pendlebury.

It's all just huff-and-puff for the supporters.

It would seem , from previous posts on this thread , that we HAVE received the best possible compensation under current rules . His comment [ in the singular ] about Melbourne was " ... this is not Melbourne where you can

just come in and steal players . " If you take his comment as "spot on " then , Rumpole , are you suggesting that Collingwood has some ability to flout the rules that the AFL has made to create GWS ? Do you really believe the

MFC sat silently ? Just because McGuire is in the media , and can spout what he wants when he wants to does not mean we are sitting twiddling our thumbs . I would say the events of the last 2 months should be enough to

show that we are being very active to ensure an improved future for the Club . That that future does not involve Scully is a bonus as far as I am concerned .

...and his radio station.

He has ready made public access, lots of hot air, is a dab hand at the cheap shot and loves a threat (mostly meaningless). No amount of huffing and puffing by Ed will stop GWS from getting a Collingwood player if they're pay over the odds for them. I couldn't care less if GWS do or don't. A pox on both their clubs/franchises. As far as I'm concerned Eddie is just giving oxygen to GWS which should in fact just be left to die a death before it sends a foundation club broke.

Well Eddie, once again showing yourself to the world as the prize goose you are. That said, he has clout, and I would love to see him wage war on that irrelevant piece of tripe that is GW$. But as mentioned by others, there is nothing he can do but sit idly by and suck eggs if they do (which they certainly will/have already) go after Pendles. His comments about the MFC [censored] me to tears, as we may not have done too much, but there was nothing we could have done, aside from paying way overs for T$. No matter how much those comments annoy me, there is no point getting my knickers in a twist as I would've expected nothing else from Eddie. Pendles will go, Eddie will burst a valve, and I will enjoy sitting back and watching them go hammer and tongs at each other for the next decade. And maybe, just maybe, while this is all going on the MFC can circle around unnoticed and steal a couple players off em while they are fixated on each other :)

The thing is though GWS have every right to go after Pendlebury. He is out of contract. Im not sure why Ed had a crack at us. We were never going to stop Tom Scully from leaving. The only thing we did wrong was believe anything he said.

But if GWS are paying Scully 2 mill in his 1st year then that absurb amount after that then Pendlebury should get at least double. Imagine how much cash they will throw at him. Hard to resist.

But in 3 years time when these 1st round draft picks are out of contract they will expect more pay and GWS may not have the room because of the players now on big money. Thats when the rest of the teams can poach them.

I think this is a very dumb thing for Eddie to say.

There is nothing that GWS would want more than a war with the most powerful and popular club. Think of the desperately needed publicity and interest in the game this would generate in the NRL heartland. If I was Gubby and Sheedy I would be rubbing my hands together striving to make as public a crack at Pendelbury as possible. Even if GWS fails the publicity will be gold. A life time war with Collingwood would be the best possible news for GWS.

Eddie stupidly just egged them on. Eddie is normally smarter than this.

Nevertheless for the record I wish he was a Dee.

We haven't had the duplicitous $cullyesque pledge of undying devotion and eternal loyalty yet. I think the script says that comes in March.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
