Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Sam to wear number 17

Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere else, but Sam Blease has got his favourite number (17) for next season. Sam's dad wore number 17 and Sam wore it right through his junior career. Good luck Sam, we haven't had too many great 17's in my lifetime. Except Kelvin Clarke of course.

Brett Lovett !!

One of my favourite players. When I was a kid having a kick I used to mimick B.Lovett. I even sticked my butt and hips out, acknowledging that B.Lovett's was most effective in keeping his feet and shaking off would be tacklers. Unfortunately I didn't have the mullet of curls to go with it.

Just like I would mimick another, skip and twirl the pill a la G.Lyon lining up for goal late 80's.

Strange indeed. But I loved it.

G. Lyon's one handed pick ups on the run from wing/half forward on the members side heading towards the Punt Rd. goal are my lasting memories of said man. That and his 65-70 metre thumping goal in the wet during the '88 Prelim. Good daze.

I was at Princess Park the following year ('89) about Round ~7 or 8. He goaled from 55+ out near the boundary in front of the John Elliott Stand just on quarter time (or half time) siren. On a heavy track - I think he even had the long sleeves on. Massive torp and it sailed nicely through.

Princess park was shocking in the late 80's so that was some torp. I remember playing hawthorn maybe same year where the ground was full of saw dust! In 1990 i think there was a game at the 'G where there was not one blade of grass on the oval. Tightly packed moist soil, I have it on video somewhere, amazing compared to now...geez i loved those Northey years i have heaps of it on vid.

Not sure about "not one blade of grass". There was some grass - but a hell of alot of mud. 1989 was a horrible year for the G surface as a spectacle (with the exception of the '89 Grand Final - it looked ok then but from goalsquare to goalsquare and through the corridor it was not ideal).

People would recall the State of Origin game in '89, not only did Lockett & Dunstall play for the VICS, but also of significance was Andy Collins tackle on fellow Hawk teammate Tony Hall in the thick mud. Hall did his knee. The ground was atrocious then. Thankfully technology including improved drainage and soil components have come to the fore.

Will always remember the SOO game. As Hall was being stretchered off, they were carrying him around the boundary line to the old players race, and in between the MCC members, and where the MFC members used to sit, a bloke in the front row (who had his leg in plaster) handed his crutches over to Hall! Was no malice in it, it was just a pisser to watch! I was sitting pretty much behind him but on the next level up.

i will find the video. We were playing north melb, Darren Bennett era. Lots of grass seed but no grass, it must have been early in the season as i was also at the magnificent SOO Game. Never forget that day of glory. Don Scott commentary was also superb, he gives Sandy Roberts absolute curry!!

Denis Clark was handy for a while. (His son played one game). Saw him kick a goal from the middle of Western Oval (with the breeze) in Round 2 1971.

Think he was a magnificent drop-kick from memory. Thought that team would do better than they did ie Biffen, Dillon, Parke, Alves...

Ahhh it's off season reminiscing time ...

B. Lovett was a beauty. Loved it heavy under foot and you're right, one of the all-time great exponents of standing up in a tackle before giving off to advantage.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
