Here are a couple of tunes featuring guys that occasionally play with my band.  The first one features a guy going by the name of George Washingmachine on fiddle, the second features a guy name Jy-Perry Banks (and his brother Zane Banks on vocals) who I consider to be one of the best pedal steel players I've seen or heard, and the third as well as featuring Jy, also features a guy named Johnny Gauci on keyboards.

Thanks 'hardtack'...I've been lucky enough to see Buddy solo (at the Corner Hotel) and also with Emmylou...and almost forgot also saw him with Steve Earle's band at the Central Club Hotel in Richmond.

They are a great music couple...

Had to post this one.  Highly recommend watching the whole thing but if you're in a hurry make sure to at least watch the four minutes from 5:00 onwards.  Mind boggling.

Losing interest in the footy....

Lets see if I can find some music on Youtube.

...back in a minute.

Ah yes, love Gabriel and at his peak on this tour...just love the sound of his voice and what about the band.

They look like they are having so much fun...it's infectious.

Would it be possible for a mod to get rid of that unnecessary apostrophe in "Videos" in the thread title.  Thanks.

Thanks 'Macca', there's something special about vinyl. Putting an LP on the turntable, looking at great cover art and reading the liner notes not to mention the sound.

The doco was made this year so it will be new to most.  American slant of course but vinyl is vinyl and it has universal appeal

Still have most of my Records (Records are made of vinyl)

But no turntable for many years.

Hi Definition Files don't deteriorate every time a sharp needle is placed on it!

But I still love to have the Records in my hand.

The price of Records is completely outrageous in todays world!!

Vinyl never went away and is now fast becoming a very big selling point in this age of digital music sourcing... people want something tactile again.  About a year ago I helped at my friends' record shop that deals probably 90% vinyl (the rest being a few CDs, posters, music books and videos), while they went to Canada for a month, and business was quite brisk.  As a mark of it's popularity, it has been supported by music industry doyens such as Glen A Baker and Stuart Coupe who have voluntarily attended in store promotions and quite regularly do their record shopping there.

Hopefully this link works... a few photos that I took on one such occasion:

Still have my turntable from 1981 although finding a replacement stylus is becoming harder. Found a joint in Sydney that still stocks them.

Agree on the cost of vinyl these days. My daughter has become a vinyl fan in recent years- she's lucky to find an album under 50 bucks ! She's also a fan of a lot of "my" generations music to the point that the sounds coming from her room sound a lot like mine in 1977. She's also liberated a fair few from her aunties who were divesting themselves of their record collections.

For the past few years I've had a weekly catch-up with a few mates. Armed with guitars & suchlike we set about playing (slaughtering) a range of songs from classic to obscure. During restrictions we've substituted this with a Zoom meeting and decided that seeing we couldn't play, we'd do album reviews. While that has been great fun, we all agree that despite the accessibility advantages of Spotify, the experience of listening to an album was better when you had the record sleeve to peruse as you listened. Especially if it contained the lyrics.

If you live in Sydney, you should pop in and check out RPM Records.  They do have pretty hefty prices on some of their LPs, but they also have plenty at affordable prices.  They're at 113 Marrickville Rd, Marrickville... just over Victoria Rd on the Sydenham side (next door to a great little live music bar called the Gasoline Pony - where my band plays once every month).

Nah, Melbourne HT. The Sydney joint is one I found online in my search for a stylus.

It's so great hearing these kinds of stories and youngsters really digging in to music of the past generation in its original form!

In the last couple of years I've definitely become a vinyl fiend (to the point where it's a problem :p). My turntable is just a Sony PS-D705 from the early 90s that actually used to be my great uncle's who passed away last year. It goes alright but it can be hard to get into the backend and try and fix things like the belt and the tone arm balancing, maybe Sony did this on purpose? I also needed a new stylus and they isn't sell the old Sony ones anymore but I was able to get a standard Audio-Technica one and plug right in which was handy.

Records can be quite up there in price, I tend to buy a lot of local stuff especially on the Flightless Records label (King Gizzard, Orb, Traffik Island etc) but still looking at $40 a pop! There's a few sites that aren't too bad for the mainstream stuff but yeah not a cheap hobby!

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.
