This is my question as well. Last I heard MN said that they were waiting to see if and how Aussie turned up to training. It may be that he simply didn't show and as such was cut. It may be that he told the club he couldn't commit. It may be that he came in overweight. Or it may be that he came in and was told to pack his things and head off. I'm very curious to know which actually occurred.

From the Age:

However, the Demons made the tough decision to cut the 176cm, 23-year-old speedster after failing to make contact with him in their bid to discuss his future. "Unfortunately, we have been unable to adequately communicate with Aussie to determine his future intentions," Demons general manager of list management Tim Harrington said.

Seems like he is still having problems with commitment and homesickness.

it will take years. Losing Maurice on xmas day would have totally shattered him as he was coming to terms with his dad.

I proudly possess Austin's 2011 jumper with autograph purchased at the club's foundation heroes dinner earlier this year.

I truly hope he hasn't tossed it in and that my jumper is not the last he wears for the Demons.

Lovely thoughts but it does seem that he has.

It really saddens me to see such a clearly talented young man lost to footy becasue of apparent non-footy reasons. Saw Austin play some very promising footy and just hope the kid has some luck delivered his way in the not too distant future

Sincerely hoping the best for Aussie - and look forward to one day watching him strut his stuff again

with the picks we have I'd be suprised if we could pick up anyone better than Wonna in any of this years drafts .

Would be worth a rookie spot at least

I'd be disappointed if we didnt pick up better players.

With Wonna's flaky commitment atm, I would not bother rookieing him.

Sad finish to an AFL opportunity. Hope he finds peace up home.

Bartram lost his dad and played the next day... obviously different people rely on their family and mentors to different extents, but if i was Wonna football would be one thing i'd hold onto more dearly after these incidents rather than letting go of it.

Oh well. Best of luck to Aussie - i lost my dad at around same age (and on my mothers birthday) and so i know that it's very tough. Hopefully he can carve out a good life up there and maybe go about dominating one of the local leagues. Thanks for the memories :)

Sad, but not suprised. Wonna has bigger Demons to sort out than the MFC. Good luck little guy. It's time you had some.

Good luck little guy ? What part of the united states are you from.

Can't see any hope for a rookie re-listing if that is the case. A pity but seemed inevitable over the last 12 months

The Age sheds a little more light on The situation

"Wonnameari returned to Darwin and then home to the Tiwi Islands after the club best and fairest a month ago and has not been seen since

He was due to return to Melbourne on October 10 to consult the surgeon who operated on his ankle, and then to join pre-season training that began yesterday. He is still yet to return."

Wonna had become a dead weight and was not pulling with the team. Had to go. We have to get tougher and tougher still, ASAP.

He had no full commitment to the Dees anymore. No player in this state of mind will be a part of this club any longer. Even our previous coach had not toughened himself or the team up. You will notice that if any player wimps it on the field now, he will get some long "pine time" !Beware such players as Davey who duck at the most inopportune time when half heartedly going for a mark.

We are on a long road to regaining some AFL respect as a club.

Sad to see Aussie delisted. I just hope his absence doesn't affect Liam, as they have been house mates for the past couple of years and are like brothers.

Good luck Aussie.

The piece in The Age makes it clear what happened. Aussie was supposed to see the surgeon who operated on his ankle on October 10, he didn't show up. He did not come to training yesterday, he is still up in the NT. Aussie sacked the MFC, that's what's happened. So the club had no choice.

I guess that's right.

By missing that follow up visit to the surgeon who operated on his ankle, he is sending out a loud and clear message that he doesn't have the will to complete his rehab to the point where he can play again.

I had been hoping that he might be rookied so he could do a pre season and then reclaim a place on the list but that's unlikely now.

I wish him luck in his future.

Wasn't going to post this but think it might get a laugh from a few people.

Inside tip has it that Wonna's weight was due to the consumption of turtles back home. Nutritionist got wind of this and explained that the fat content in these turtles was off the charts and he couldn't continue playing AFL footy if he kept eating them. Pretty sure he jumped back on the turtle bandwagon back home midseason.

Maybe turtles are to be blame for his undoing lol

Poor form by Wonaeamirri.

He has had a tough time, and I wish him well. But he should have let the club know what his interntion was.

Maybe it is that the MFC just remind him to much of his father and uncle. He just needs to walk away regardless of how the club has treated him. Some posts above i find quite distressing. How dare anyone say aussie should harden the fark up. How many of you do your job in front of thousands of people, with strong media scrutiny thrown in?? Sweet fanny adams i would say.

No one can understand exactly what Aussie is going through, and I understand that he may not want to come back to the club. But a simple phone call should be made, and it is extremly poor form by him not to contact the club.

Insensitive and puerile - really gave me a laugh a minute. Good one.

The whole Austin Wonaeamirri-turtle association reminds me of the Mony Python sketch about Two Sheds Jackson. A man briefly mentions that he might possibly one day get a second shed maybe and the rest of the world gets stuck on that miniscule aspect of his life.

Wona once mentioned that he liked eating turtle, so naturally he will never be known for anything else. I'll be sad to see him go. I always thought he was just too short to make it, but I s'pose that doesn't matter now, does it?

And that is probably why he was delisted. Just not interested.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
