Cameron Schwab put on twitter that now our coach is on it. Its been awhile since Cameron tweeted. Anyway interesting because twitter can be brutal somethimes and I think he & Mick are the only coaches on twitter.

ANyway I just hope next year if we lose he doesnt cop personal abuse on it. Imagine if Dean Bailey had been on twitter. But I guess its a good way to communicate with the coach.

pointless exercize - lose/lose

pointless comment... at least wait to see how he uses it before passing judgement. He has already passed on info about the newest additions to the coaching department, so it's already proved to be of some use.

Personally, I like the idea of an "open door" policy - sure he may cop criticism via tweets, but I'm sure they keep across these forums as well, so it wouldn't be so different; at least a tweet is limited in the number of characters it can contain :-)

For those wanting to find him his twitter name is: @NeeldMFC

For those not on twitter you can see his comments here: http://twitter.com/#!/NeeldMFC

So far he has said the following:

Thanks for welcoming me to the Demons – hard work has started. Plenty more to come.
Thanks for the tweets – just been out to visit the City of Casey, very impressive training facility. Club is doing good things in the area
Also like to welcome Jade Rawlings and Paul Satterley – strong appointments. Jade will work with backs and Paul on development with forwards

Pleeez, spare me hardtack. You'll learn nothing - unless you like receiving spin and he'll only open himself to attack from every disaffected nuff-nuff supporter

a most injudicious decision - I'd be surprised if it doesn't fade away

Agree.

I don't want him to ingratiate.

I'd be happy as a fan if he was a humourless hard-arse to every single person he met if it meant he was that to the players.

I'm slightly frustrated.

But put simply - I want to come on here and read a JCB post that details the awful things that Neeld has said to the players on the training track while running them into the ground in early November.

I'd prefer Bhima, much more readable.

Fair enough DC... but it doesn't matter what we think anyway. He's on Twitter and it's entirely up to him what he does there.

I can't see how making himself more accessible to the riff-raff and morons on Twitter will be of any benefit in the whatsoever.

And yes, I have been a big Twitter user. Not so much anymore.

No reason to go hide IMO. It's not as though he doesn't realise nuff nuff supporters exist. A read of some threads on this forum and such will confirm it.

Interesting that on One Week at a Time last week, they rated Melbourne, along with Collingwood and the Kangaroos, as the three most approachable clubs in the AFL from a media perspective. (They rated St Kilda worst as a 'nearly-closed' shop, and Essendon, Hawthorn and Carlton as being very hard to get information from.)

Sure much of it might be 'spin' but there's nothing injudicious about it, including the use of social media. There's nothing wrong with being approachable if you want positive press and to build favourable media relations.

I don't understand your comment. The media want to know about the football, like all of us. They want to talk to players and coaches.

I presume all the Melbourne departments talk to each other.

The topic was about a coach having a twitter account

and just as an aside, when has lack of club access ever stopped the media. As we have clearly seen lately they will just make it up anyway, and if they do get info from clubs they will more than likely misrepresent it or quote it out of context. Sometimes making yourself too 'open' to the media can also leave yourself open to media-bashing and vendettas (Caro anyone?)

Was there an uproar or any negativity towards Malthouse having a Twitter account ?

Or is he just fortunate enough there weren't any negative attacks from 71,000 members thanks to a 20-2 record on the back of a Premiership year ?

I dare say that's exactly what's happening here.......

I mean, he hasn't yet tweeted about 'owning it at FIFA', so obviously not following the lead of the players.

Not really.

I appreciate the offer but rpfc needs no help getting from the airport.

I also don't think our personalities would mesh to make the trek from Tulla to Casey a comfortable one...

We are all Dees, but we are all different. Different Dees.

H_T I don't think there is an "uproar" here. Maybe a little negativity, but its not really that big a deal, just a good talking point

I think you're possibly missing the point.

The purpose wouldn't really be to inform supporters.

It's just another avenue through which to promote the club and it's message.

And some people and media outlets will give more credence to a tweet supposedly by our coach, as opposed to our media manager.

I would pay to silently sit in the backseat and be a fly on the wall.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 16 vs Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Dees are deep in the heart of enemy territory as they take on the Lions in Brisbane under the Friday Night Lights at the Gabba. Will the Demon finally be awakened and the season get back on track or will they meekly be sacrificed like lambs to the slaughter?

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.
