Neeld's first Meeting with our Players

drdrake

Recommended Posts

According to Watts last night the playing group was meeting the coach today. What I would pay to be a fly on the wall in that meeting. This is how I think it would go.

The Intro

G'day Guys it is great to be your coach, here is my team so far, Misson, Royal, Greaves and we will have the other coaches in place over the next few weeks

The Body

I will tell you how it is, you as a playing group were a disgrace in the 2011 season, what we will find out over the next 12 mths is whethere you have been poorly coached or if we over rated you as players. You will have structure you will play my way or you will play somewhere else. You will play your role each week and that starts from today. I will teach you what is needed to win matches and if you execute we will play finals in 2012. If your are unable to execute we wqill find players that can. Your fitness isn't at the required level, we are not strong enough in mind or body.

Conclusion

Enjoy tonight it is the close of a very bad year. As of tomorrow it is all about 2012, you will each get your program and KPI targets that we expect you to be at by your return to full training on the 1/11. We will be successful, any player that doesn't like what they hear let me know and we will either trade you or de-list you.

I like it, and the players shouldn't be suprised if it was that blunt!

I'd be surprised if it was that blunt.

A new coach has no idea of what went down last year at the club - so whilst he would clearly spell out what is happening going forward - i would suggest he would say. "i have no idea about what you did last year but all I need to say is finishing 13th is not an option."

Up until last week he was an outsider - he may thoughts on fitness and game plan but i would say that a wise coach comes in and says - last year - I only know ladder position and that is unacceptable going forward

"Eff off! Who do you think you are?" is what I'd say. The fact is, Mark Neeld has no idea who these players really are and how to motivate them. Until he does, I'd be careful of making such broad statements.

i think our list will thrive on all this....they are young & doing it altogether. They will get each other through it.

I know it is flavour of the month stuff, but i would love our entire Footy Department (and whoever else at the MFC is up for it) to do the kokoda trail.

That stuff makes men and creates teamwork of survival.

The players have to be made well aware of what they put up in 2011 was garbage, my personal opinion is we thought our natural talent would be good enough to improve. To me our players starting listening to the hype about them as a group and thought it would just happen. They playing group deserves a rocket and hopefully it will make them determined to suceed in 2012. If a player takes offense to the honest truth he shouldn't be on our list.

I totally agree. I just don't think that the right time for Neeld to do that is the first time he meets his players.

disagree. hard line first and foremost; what he wants, how he wants it done, what happens if it isn't.

Sensationalist, he won't come in bagging out the players and making threats...

He'd simply say I'm excited to coach this group, there's a lot of talent here, but talent can only take you so far and there's a lot of hard work ahead of everyone here, so I hope you're all ready for that. The past is the past, doesn't count for anything anymore. Everyone here is equal, those of you who work hard and put effort in will be rewarded.

Hawks 3 goals up at 3 qtr time... Who was coaching the Pies all year, Mick or Neeld???

If Pies lose, then for sure we have a ripping coach!!!!

Okay, so we don't have a ripping coach.

Remember, correlation does not equal causation, though pies looked a bit shabby tonight than they usually would.

I seriously love Trenners. What a champ.

I genuinely thought Watts, Trengove and Grimes all sounded excellent in that clip.....

Very professional and wise. Miles beyond their tender ages.

Any player who says that to a coach whether new or old is out the door and rightly so. If we dont let the coach do things his way and give him rains at the club well just end up where we were this season

  • 2 weeks later...

Great to hear that the boys are intimidated.

It's a good start.

They should respect their coach.

I couldn't care less if they liked him or not.

I know a bit of Mark Neeld as we share some geographic boundaries and know players who have played for him and against him.

From what I gather his relationship with the players will be based on mutual respect. He won't be having the boys over on Sat night for a few beers and some hookey.

He will be a very demanding individual, I would think there will be some backlash and maybe some casualties as a result. So be it I say.

Good to hear.

I have been told that he told the boys "I am going to get you fit, get you tougher, and give you a gameplan."

Pointed remarks.

Good start.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
