The big buzz in the recruiting world of late has been the emergence of the mature age recruit. We've seen the JPod working wonders at the Cats and what about Paul Puopolo who came to Hawthorn this year after starring for SANFL team Norwood in last year's finals?

Podsiadly and Puopolo are weird names so I decided to look for a mature age recruit with an unusual name and I've come up with Freddie Clutterbuck.

Fabulous Freddie turns 22 years of age in a few days' time. Last year he was skipper of the East Perths reserves side which made the Grand Final. He is a midfielder who according to reports has come on well this year.

DOB: 22nd September 1990

Debut: 2010

Yes yes yes and a million times yes.

Don't care if he can play I just want that name.

If that's your criteria, it's still not too late to draft recently retired NHL goaltender, Ron Tugnutt or college basketballer, Chief Kickingstallionims.

Hugh Jarce is battling weight issues but he might fit .

Seen him play for East Perth this year a couple of times and he has played well, but WAFL players who I have seen who have really stood out for mine, Luke Blackwell (Ex Blues), Mark Hutchins (Ex Saints), Kyle Horsley, Kane Mitchell and there are some other boys like Ian Richardson, Ross Young & Jason Salecic who have stood up for years in the league and have bigger bodies for the middle but time has probably passed them by.

What the Freddie ClutterbUCK are you on about ?

Interview with the man himself:

http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/afl/east-perths-freddie-clutterbuck-invited-to-train-with-melbourne-demons/story-fnb7bkh3-1226208346862

"Clutterbuck had an outstanding season in the WAFL, playing all 20 games for the Royals as well as making three appearances in the Foxtel Cup. The 21-year-old midfielder averaged 22.3 disposals per game to clinch the league’s Rising Star award at the end season."

... and some random quotes:

"Freddie Clutterbuck (26 touches) was superb on the wing for East Perth and kept Fremantle-listed Jesse Crichton quiet"

"East Perth was led by skipper Michael Swan's six goals and 42 possessions from Brendan Lee .... and 39 from Freddie Clutterbuck."

Back in the 1960s there was dance craze instigated by rock legend Chubby Checker called the Clutterbuck. It was commonly misnamed the "Hucklebuck".

"This interesting and rare surname, found widely recorded in Gloucestershire, is the Anglicized form of a Dutch name which may have arrived in England at two periods in English history. Firstly, it may have arrived in Gloucestershire when Edward 111 brought Flemish weavers over to teach their craft to the English, with many settling in the Cotswolds. More likely however, the name followed later from Holland due to the religious persecution of French Huguenots, by the Duke of Alba who suppressed the Protestant revolt in the Netherlands (1567 - 1572), and who fled to nearby countries."

And jcb, I'd let go of the Nasher bashing. You're not exactly covering yourself in glory.

Nasher is clearly a racist. He obviously hates all anglicised dutch aboriginal Turks. What a shameless racist.

geez, he's got a Dunny porno tache........as if his name doesn't give him enough attention

Hopefully that is just for Movember and the razor will be out on Thursday - and for Dunny while they are at it.

And for me the name easily trumps Stainless Ferrous Edgeass, or whatever - that #22 Collingwood dude.

Chicken Smallhorn would come in at second place - I remember him from Pelaco Inquest, a 1950s Saturday evening review of the six games, the full round, played that afternoon. Not a name to forget.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
