ROSS Lyon has been spectacularly backed this morning to coach Melbourne next season.

Lyon’s price was slashed from $9 into just $2 before the market was suspended with online bookmaker Sportsbet.com.au.

“We’ve suspended the market for the time being based on irregular betting activity over the past 24 hours,” Sportsbet.com.au’s Haydn Lane said.

The move comes as Lyon prepares the Saints to take on Sydney in the second elimination final on Saturday night

Lyon was at $17 to coach Melbourne when markets were released following the sacking on Dean Bailey and gradually firmed to $9 before today’s plunge.

Yesterday, Saints defender Jason Blake said Lyon had fronted the players when rumours of a Melbourne poaching move first aired.

"He addressed it straight up and said it wasn't true," Blake said.

I hope there is something to this story!

Getting Ross Lyon would be a major coup for the club.

Coaches don't come under the salary cap, so perhaps he has been given an offer he simply cannot refuse.

well, im sure Kim Duthie could manage the influx

Maybe it was Kim who started the rumours?

If there's any basis to it, we won't know until late Saturday night, after the Saints final, at the earliest.

I haven't really given them a chance for the flag, but their form in the 2nd half of the season can't be ignored.

Big plunge on the Saints to win the spoon when the betting scandals started halfway through last year too.

Similar result here too I reckon.

Rumor is that when Ross Lyon woke up this morning there was a dead horses head in his bed next to him!

Great work with that bet John Longmire. Worked perfectly.

Agree

Definitely a Swan bet......lol

It might be a little early to get too excited yet.

According to Francis Leach on SEN, the betting plunge consisted of 4 bets for a total of #130

The market doesn't drop $7.00 due to bets totally $130. Francis Leach should consult with the Ox before he says this.

that's hogwash.

PROBABLY....but gee it's an amusing thought.....have a laugh on us pal,its FREE

Good call.

Francis is really an idiot if he believes that. I chucked $50 on Scott Burns and that market hasn't moved one bit.

it would have to be more than that. A betting agency isn't going to halt betting for bets worth $130 totaling a potential payout of no more than $1170...

The Demons’ aggressive small forward who kicks goals and defends the Demons’ ball in the forward arc. When he’s on song, he’s unstoppable but he did blot his copybook with a three week suspension in the final round. 2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield.
