Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Lyon doesn't appeal to me; massive price-tag with an unattractive brand of footy. The club wont get value for money, games will become less enjoyable to watch and he is still as much of a premiership gamble as anybody else being considered.

And on top of that, his bizarre disdain for Luke Ball appears to have cost the Saints 2 premierships.

Less enjoyable ? than what? the rubbish we often currently see ?

Weve got a little ways to go before we can execute the 'control' game StKilda utilise.. So you might be in for some real treats of games til then !!

Are you actually privy to what transpired between Ball and Lyon ? Iimagine something did..but what ? it might be something he rues..but who knows.

Whats value for money.. A premiership ? thatd do me

HaHaHa!! This is a Joke, it must be.....Les attractive than the MFC since 2007...no that is not possible.

Some people are not wanting to climb the mountain....it's all a bit too hard.

Supporters and players with this attitude need to be weeded out and attended to.......

i can't believe people are saying no to the suggestion of Lyon because the Saints play unattractive football...has anyone considered that he went ultra defensive, because other than 4-5 players, the saints are just not that good.

and secondly....like many others have said....would you rather lose by 186 playing exciting football....or win by 30 playing unattractive football i know what i want.

Not sure if much should be read into this, but with Ross Lyon now being managed by the Craig Kelly-led ESP, he joins the same stable of clients as one G.Lyon. Garry remains Kelly's star client, so I'm sure he (Kelly) would be working behind the scenes to help him land a big fish given his rescue role with the MFC is so public and his reputation is on the line. Would be interesting to be a fly on the wall in those offices. Watch this space...

Craig Kelly, as in the former Collingwood fullback? He has even more reason to get Ross Lyon to us. We then don't go after Mick.

I fully understand your sentiments there KIL and as you have an opinion on Eade thats fine. Mine is that hecan coach but hasnt got anyone over the line. In fact id suggest hes got no one TO the line. Lyon has. Id respectfully suggest a near miss rates higher than no -shows .

Im not sure in what manner Eade is a better fit. How is this fit adjudicated ? Both Coaches will do well from moving on. Both have in all likelyhood exhausted the potential of their repsective lists and both clubs ( Dogs and Saints ) are due a sizable list rebuild.

Malthouse has evolved into a very accomplished senior coach., emphasis on senior as its very much his entourage of assistants that are doing the harder yards. Micky is more like the icing. Possibly with a club such as Collingwood and their progress along their journey they are a good fit for such a set up. Im not sure we are, just yet. If a house then we're at lock up but stil lneed a serious fit out before we go on show ( in finals). We need a craftsman builder who can take the raw product and refine it into a real looker. I think Lyon might just be this type of guy.

Id be happoy with him whilst id have my reservations about Eade. Its just my opinion. We wont get Malthouse nor Clarkson but no harm in trying. It struck me as odd that during recent interviewing Lyon ( Ross) didnt dismiss the idea of Melbourne at all. He was duly very circumvent about it but he could have easily quashed it on the spot; he didnt. Somewhat strange I thought.

Theres an air of desperation about Eade that Im not 100%V comfortable with. He'll probably go to Adelaide and after 3 years of he'll wish he hadnt. Funny lot South Australians ( except the Melbourne following ones !! lol ) .

Lyon strikes me as more composed, but just as menacing, not to be trifled with. A lot of our list ( unfortunately ) could use some stern direction and no mucking about 'coaching'

Interesting times :)

To be honest BB, it would not concern me if Ross Lyon came to MFC. I agree with you on most of your points outlined above, "composed but menacing" was a good one.

The 'fit' I was reffering to has been based on my own perceptions of the two. Apart from watching the Saints and Dogs play footy and watching the two coaches perform in front of the media, I cannot offer much more.

The Dogs brand of footy was a faster flowing type as opposed to the Saints defensive type. I believe the MFC playing group would transition to a coach who's based most of his structures around supporting this brand quicker to what they would with a Lyon type game plan. I realise this statement may draw some acid from other people regarding that it's what we're missing (defensive intent as TV keeps saying) but it's my opinion.

Lees enjoyable than what ? Getting done by 10 goals or more every week, being down and out by quarter time more often than not, having no expectation of winning ? Give me a spell !

Heard 3AW rumour file this morning, no apparent source other than Ross Stevensen himself - but said R.Lyon to Dees on 5yr deal. Unconfirmed.

I guess we wont hear anything until the Saints finals campaign is done. I think it would be poor form if it were done before then.

Agree. Having followed the Demons since not long after their last flag, some of the football served up in the past 5 years(and I know some of the reasons) has been putrid.

I didn't realise after the empty loss to StK at the MCG on a Friday in Rd 1 2007 would be the start of 5 years of on field misry often coupled with bouts of off field lunacy.

I remember the game well. So much talk about Brock McLean going into the game after his 06 finals campaign and then within minutes he is out injured, never to be the same.

Misery is an apt description of the last 5 seasons (save a couple of games last year and this).

I hope so HT.

Can we remember that Ross Lyon was part of the Roos team that took swans to a flag. I don't believe some of the rubbish comments on here about 'saints footy'.. IMO 'saints footy' is about discipline and team ethos. They just don't score as much. He would be the best fit for us since the great John Northey who had a very good list play well above themselves week in week out.

It was great to see Swooper and Rod Grinter at the 'G' last week too.

Lets just suppose for a moment ( well we're entitled to some happy happy dreaming delusionary moments arent we ) that Lyon , the Ross, not the Garry ( lol ) comes to town. What might thi sactually mean.

One can only assume that a 5 yr deal , as purported, means two things. 1) Nothing is going to happen overnight and 2) when it does start to happen he'll hopefully be guiding us through some successful times. it wont be all fly by night hit and miss.

With RL would come a new( ish) band of merry assistants. As stand-in Viney isnt actually from the assistants inner sanctum, he'll remain and most likely reassume a pivotal role of some description. Ross will mould his team in his likeness....thats the coaching side.

Then we come to the list. If the FD dept got rightfully edgy upon learning Ross was coming to town, what of the players. I can see 3 things happening here. One group of players will gladly wring their hands with excitement and expectation., things are about to happen, and then ramp up. A second lot will be starting to rue some half baked efforts over the recent years as the searing torch of scrutiny befalls them. Some are bound to get burnt.. Some might seek 'fresher fields" at trade , some might reflect upon their time left and get down to work, real work. and 3) Time to trim the carcass. Ross will have his own view ( as indeed will any new coach ) as to what sort of team , and by that its makeup, is needed to compete and succeed. He evaluate the team into 2 lists.. Keepers.......and 'others". We wont be seeing the 'others' at Melbourne in 2012

Having let some'others' go...its ...Shopping Time !!

In recent times weve had the Rev. He took his band of merry disciples up the mountain and back , never to climb again. If Neale was the Rev, then Dean was the Teacher. He taught his lessons and and got many through a primary football education but was found out of depth trying to matriculate his charges. Whos next..Lyon the Fearless ? His time has been honed at the hands of Walls, Parkin, Pagan and Roos. His H & A record currently runs at above...thats ABOVE 63%. Im not sure if anyone who barracks for Melbourne can truly comprehend that figure. He's won, nearly 2/3 of his games.

You dont do that by accident !!

Wed be crazy not to try very hard to get this bloke.

One of the major critiques I have of Lyon/Saints over the last few years is their reluctance to blood new players. Lyon has only started to do this this year when it became obvious the current group had failed and would not be bringing home the bacon. Compare this with Geelong who has given a number of kids some games here and there to try and pass the torch from one generation to the next. The result is that the rebuilding process for Geelong would appear to be minimal while the Saints would appear to need to start from close to scratch.

I think Lyon would be a great fit for us and he may have learnt from past experience, but like Daniher he would appear to have his favourites and be reluctant to chop and change the side around instead preferring to have "faith" and hope that things will work themselves out.

Yeah true. But North and Carlton to come. They may not even make the finals.

PS. I'm not entirely sure that what was mentioned had any weight, after all it is the "rumour file", but some content on the program has come to fruition quite a bit.

After all it is the silly season. So I'll believe it, when I see it.

With respect DA youve all but outlined the reasons yourself. The Saints were well and truly in their Window. The priority then is to maintain a awell olied and honed outfit. To keep the machine primed. There no urgency to bring in new players unless they themsleves have put their selction beyond the question. When youre where they were you migh ttop up..and nudge a bit.. but blood for the sake of it ?? Nupp.

They nearly got the silver wear...We in mean time have been fiddle-farting !! Different kettle of fish entirely.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
