Perfect response.

Strong, unwavering, talking down to the media and their ridiculous beliefs that Tom is a liar, and most importantly understanding that we can match the offer from GWS over the life of Scully's career.

I want to punch the Ox in the face. He is being a real [censored]!

The Main point i took from all that was...Schwabby said "Tom cannot fully understand why people do not believe his word? He is learning how the media work"

Cameron Schwab is one cool operator...so at this stage i am quite confident the skull will stay.

The Media Frenzy must look for a new story....(for now)

The more I listen to Schwabby, the more I think he'll stay.

It's interesting that Tom has been trialled by fire. Schwab said he's been asking 'Why don't they just believe my word?' I'd say he'll appreciate how Schwab and the club has come out and been helping him with this despite the media storm.

The one thing the club seems to have learned from Geelong's handling of the Ablett situation is to present a united front and to support the player.

He was just protecting his ego after being fed horseshit by someone.

What I make is that the club is continuing it's classy way of handling a very tough and potentially destructive situation. As you'd expect he as much as admitted that the amount offered by GWS can't be matched, but that the club pitch is that he is an important component to Melbourne becoming a powerful club in the next few years. He also pointed out that our facilities are at a fully professional standard and are comparable to just about any in the league.

What I really like about how the club, in particular schwab and bailey, have acted during this is their vehement defence of Tom's character with people calling him a liar and such, whether or not he goes is irrelevant in this point, he is a Melbourne player this year and the club has shown great loyalty by defending him every step of the way.

One other thing, Schwab makes me feel secure about Melbourne's future whatever happens.

Used to really like Ox but think he is coming off sounding like a real fool in all of this. Came back after the break and Cam was gone and basically said he was lying and thinks he has already gone.

Cam was clearly far too smart for Ox and Ox clearly does not know much about the situation at all.

bugger what the ox said, if he doesnt back the club that is his choice, wouldnt know what is actually going on anyway, Scully was on 9 news tonight, seemed very calm and relaxed, i'm glad he can manage a smile about the whole thing, cos i certainly cant. put a bet on with a mate for $100 today that he will stay, so i hope he does! :)

I agee with you WYL.

He pumped up Tom at every chance he got.

Kept up the company line.

He would not be drawn on where negotations were at.

But he did stress football life was more than just the money.

I was again impressed by CS.

If anyone can get TS to stay it is him.

However I am not as confident as you.

No he didn't, he said "we can pay Tom as much as GWS can because of the nature of our list and how young it is", and that we still believe that over the life of his career, Scully will earn similar amounts of money at both clubs.

Clearly he wasn't saying we'll pay Tom $1mil a year because we have a whole list of players worthy of big money (unlike GWS who have nothing!), but he was definitely playing down the financial difference between the two offers.

I cannot believe that Schwartz just sat there refuting everything he said, what an absolute joke. If Scully stays I will personally ring up SEN and let him have it. What a great supporter of our club he is. Fool.

Yes and they have not wavered from it.

No one has made a negative comment that I can remember.

Yes, i do love the fact that Jimmy, Cameron & Dean have all backed Tom to the hilt. He is liked and wanted.

If the MFC knew any different there would be no need for that.

I think the MFC know more than most at this stage.

The Ox knows less than we on here do.

All i got from that interview, was that the Ox(Mr 98%) has absolutely no connection too the MFC, or contact within the MFC...

Show some respect Ox you [censored]!!!!!

I think you are being a little hard on the OX.

Remember who pays his wages.

I did not get offended, he was trying to get an answer on "what happens if Sully leaves".

.CS was not going to go there.

CS was determined to push that we are not entertaining his leaving

so there was a bit of an impass.

Listened to it.

Schwab said that, if we wanted, we could match the GWS offer because we are paying under the cap with our young list. But it's about making sure we offer something that fits in with our payment structure so that we give the team the best chance at success in the future.

Schwarz kept harping on about what was 'Plan B' ie, what would they do if Scully left in relation to compensation. Schwab said we hadn't looked at it because we believe he will stay. Schwarz kept on with it, saying that we should be looking at getting compensation from the AFL. Schwab told him that he was on the committee and that they set up the compensation rules to cater for 'franchise players' too, which take into account the GWS offer, draft position, age/youth etc. Geelong did not change the system, it was already changed before then. Schwarz continued to labour it and Schwab basically told him that he didn't understand how the system works (which was already very apparent!).

Also spoke about how they are confident, from both the public statements and private conversations they've had with Scully, that he will stay. Scully doesn't understand why people won't believe his word and Schwab said that he is only just starting to learn how the media work (BAM!).

Overall, he wiped the floor with David Schwarz and even Dean Laidley, a guest in the studio, was very pointed in his comments that Schwarz should shut up. Schwarz was trying to bully Schwab and it definitely sounded like his pride had been battered after his '98%' comment turned out to be incorrect. I found it to be a thoroughly entertaining, if somewhat cringeworthy, interview to listen to.

That is a little low.

The guy gave his all for the Dees.

And IMO still bleeds red and blue.

He has made a great job of re establishing his life.

Gim him a little credit.

In terms of on field, I give him all the credit in the world, was one of my favourites.

Being 98% percent sure about something you clearly could not be 98% sure about is stupid. I've been 98% sure someone was bluffing before, I was stupid and went home in my undies.

Ox gave a small mention to the MFC in his book saying he had a "soft spot" for the club. gee thanks mate, everything the club did for you with the knees etc, but you still have a "soft spot". how about giving something back to the club other than stirring [censored].

It was one of the worst footy books I have read. A mate of mine is a mate of the Ox's, he got an invite to the book launch, was stung the full RRP for the book as well. Not really a sentimental fella.

Character assassination is an easy thing on here you do not have to prove a thing!

It's commendable that you back the Ox but that turn phrase "the guy gave his all for the dees"

please just read his book if you can stomach it. You will soon realise the error in that statement.

And IMO still bleeds red and blue.

Listen to Schwartz everyday and he is one of my favourite media people, however is does not bleed red and blue at all.

He is also looking very stupid in regards to this whole situation. Everything he has to say on the matter is ill-informed and foolish, from when he was talking money earlier in the show to when he was talking about compensation for Melbourne. Even went as far to say the GWS are lying about the offer today!! Why would they lie? And as if he would know!!

The Ox was one of my favourites but I think he's doing nothing there other than trying to repair the damage to his credibility. He has made numerous comments to the effect that he was 98% certain that Scully or someone on his behalf had already made a commitment to GWS. The revelations of the past 24 hours and Cameron Schwab's comments on the Ox's programme this evening have left his credibility in tatters. Scully might well still sign with GWS but that won't make his earlier claims proven. Earlier in the evening he claimed that he was now 99% certain that Scully would go which is a different proposition.

Bob's right, Schwabby wiped the floor with him.

Posted

I've unfortunately not been able to hear any of his comments first hand, but by the sounds of things the bloke is a right goose. And he's making the situation even worse for himself by carrying on with it. Reminds me of Hutchy having a go at Kennett on TFS. Kennett wiped the floor with him, lol. The one thing I really hope comes out of all this debacle is that these gits in the media feel embarrassed enough to, in the future, maybe think before espousing idiotic statements like the now infamous 98%.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
