Fellow dees I think we should recognise a great performance from our skip today.I thought he showed tremendous leadership in spite of the intense pressure he's been under from the whole football world so far this year.I'm not here to debate whether he was the best choice for the role nor rate his performance so far but I really enjoyed watching him play today and wind back the clock a little!Greeny always leads by example and we can never question his will to put his body on the line for the good of the team.He continues to pluck his trademark contested pack marks up forward and usually kicks truly!he has been a wonderful servant of our club and it's been a pleasure to watch him over the last 11 years.he has given us all lots of enjoyment as well as some great memories and I really hope he is there as we start tompush towards finals and hopefully beyond over the next couple of years!good on ya greeny!!

I'd give him praise now, but it won't stop me torching him when he next barely offers a whimper when we get beaten.

Still needs to improve a few aspects of his game. But the main thing I've been critical of him this year is not thinking, doing silly things that aren't smart. He's always been trying.

Yep, a totally fair call Gotzy, was a really good game from him. I am still very disenchanted due to his leadership, or lack there of, so far this year, but will happily pay credit where it is due.

Will be back in my good books when he does it against an actual defensive unit. Not that rabble Freo rolled out.

And he missed easy goals and 2 grabbed at marks, I just can't understand how a title can throw someone off so badly. Last year he was brilliant against most teams.

Gotta love the back with the flight mark though. Was it M Johnson trying to 'defend' it? Highlight that one Lloydy.

Yeh he has been copping heat and I have been critical of his leadership qualities. I feel that the move back closer to goals has no doubt helped his performances and I guess with anything he is new to the captaining game and is still learning the ropes however, I still believe that he isn't a great leader of men from the outside looking in.

Credit where it's due you say eh?

Would you say it's due on the back of an 89 point demolition against a team that played shockingly bad

football?

5 goals? Are we giving him credit for his 5 goals?

I can recall two instances yesterday that concern me when it comes to Green and the type of player/leader he

is.

1) The first goal of the game. A soccer goal in the square thanks to Sylvia's desperation to keep the ball in play.

Green runs off celebrating as if he has kicked one of the goals of the year. Sylvia is about the 5th/6th in line

for a high-five. He should have been the first player Green ran to.

2) Tom Scully running back hard with the flight of the ball into our forward 50. Green opts to take the mark rather

than call his team mate back. If we weren't so lucky, that scenario could have resulted in two Melbourne players

knocked out cold and Tom Scully not having the confidence in his captain to look after him when those

rarities occur. What the [censored] does this say about his character?

Yesterday Green kicked the easiest 5 goals of his AFL career and people want to give him credit where it's due..

Green has talent and I rate him as a player. As a leader/role model to our younger players and captain of our club

I expect truck load more and I can honestly say situations like those two highlighted above worry me to death.

Let's take Dale Thomas as an example. A player who early on in his career was a flashy showman who would be capable

of doing the odd brilliant individual thing. Earlier this year he said that it excites him and the players more to give off a goal, lay a block for a teamate or make a tackle rather than kick it himself. No wonder he has taken

his game to the next level.

Unfortunately, Green has been very much a front runner and a selfish player for most of his career. That's not to say he doesn't 'care' about the club or his teamates but 'leading by example' is not kicking 5 goals in a team that has most of the pill all day. It's doing little thing's like running to Sylvia and congratulating him for keeping the ball alive and it's calling a young second year player back with the flight so that he knows for next time his captain has his back.

Green has got to add this to his game. Maybe a new coach will bring that out of him ? It's very much a cutural thing

and it's got to happen if we are to take the next step.

Brad Green must have had a brother at the Club all this time and most supporters weren't aware. Thank god he is nothing like Brad Green.

You clearly have little understanding of our great game and have missed the point.

Maybe it's you that should be following another sport C&B.

Half of me says this is the worst post ive ever read and that you analyse every little detail way too much and half of me thinks you really do have a point. Greeny gets the benefit of the doubt on this one though. In response to your first point perhaps he would have gone to sylvia first but the other 5 guys swamped him for a high 5 first and then in response to your second point i think Greeny just runs straight at the ball no matter what and id rather see him do that than start pulling out of contests and calling other players in.

Steve I wil lunderstand why many wil bag you here. In all fairness you have elected to highlight the bad and not the good. There were falshes of brilliance by Green and hes seemed to have ditched the yips. All this is good.

I do commend you however for having the balls to suggest its not all plain sailing with our captian and there were indeed passages which might make some think...wtf... I can remember watching Green many years back at SSandy thinking , heres a prodigious talent but one hel lof a "Look at me " show off d!ckhead.

He has for most lost much of his brassiness but occasionally it sneaks back. His game is much more rounder now nbut its not complete by a long ways.

They werent the hardest 5 were they . But 5 they were.

I wasn't going to, but your post was such a poor cheap shot at a dedicated player down on form this year.

I am sure you were itching to write this last year. If Green has supporters like you then he has no need for enemies.

And I tried to delve deeper in your post but there was nothing there.

Green has struggled with the Captaincy this year and its a tough gig in such a young side but yesterday there were some pleasing signs for him. And good on him. While we have a great future with our youth we need our senior players to stand up each week. Hopefully this kick starts a turnaround.

Steve, the incident you highlight were Sculls running back with the flight and Greeny leading towards it is completely off tap.

As the dedicated leading forward Brad has the 'Green' light to go for those marks ahead of players running back in.

If a Saints or Cats player did that in the early 90s they would have eaten a Lockett/Ablett elbow.

Wow !

Must have been at a different game - we thought the exact opposite - You want your player running at the ball to take the grab as it is an easier mark than running back with the flight - whilst i dont know, I would hope the Green would have called out "Mine Tom" - since no-one was knocked out i would hazard a guess that a call was made ? Straight out of the under 12 coaching manual - very dangerous calling someone back with the flight of ball - right decision and right outcome - wrong post

That's not right. Green light or not, when your teammate is running back with the flight - you protect him.

Green has to continue his form and work on his body language when things aren't going his way.

Well done, but miles to go before we sleep...or his captaincy gets renewed next year.

Im with C&B. Scully did not even look close to taking that mark, Greeny obviously called Scull out of it as Greeny was in a far better spot. Yes you should call players back but not in that situation.

Just on the Green Scull mark. The grab greeny took running back is how its done with conviction. Sculls hardly moved when called out and was not close to a marking position. Lets just enjoy the win and hope like hell we back it up against the tiges. If we dont beat them we are not going that well. Not that i think we are anyway.....

The mark was Green's. If you have played at all yourself you should know he the right of way to mark the ball there, and should have called Scully off as early as possible. In that case Scully would have no need for protection and Green would have taken the mark risk free. Not sure if Green did try and call him off, so he could have been in the wrong. But it was always his mark.

I play the game, but that isn't a good enough reason in and of itself to win this argument.

If a teammate is running back with the flight you protect him. You are the one that can see the ball and those around, the player running back cannot.

And don't ever say "if you played at all" or "if you played the game" because it makes you look like you don't have an argument and you just want to browbeat someone into agreeing to your position.

Yes you protect him if you do not have a clear space to mark as Green did. As I said earlier Green should have called Tom off the ball and there would have been no issue, as Brad had enough space off his own opponent. That is my argument so focus on that and not another part of the sentence, just because your argument is not holding up.

Yep. And have a look at the replay - Sylvia is there and I suspect he called Scully off.

Thank God for Col then, could have ended badly - that's bad leadership from Green then, not using his voice.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
