That's hyperbole.

Bate had a very good start to his career.

He hasn't kicked on, but don't rewrite history.

Nah mate it aint hyperbole, just my opinion, its only hyperbole as it dont align with your views.

Stand by my post, Howe has shown more in 3 matches than Bate has in his career.

Bate is simply a hit up forward with a booming left foot.

Happy to admit Bate has played some good footy for the Dees, had a cracking QB match a few years back, plus I think he finished 4th in a B&F but Howe is a natural footballer, Bate is a battler.

I know what you mean - Howe looks like a footballer.

But Bate had a a very good start to his career.

There is a lot of work ahead of Jeremy to avoid a similar fate.

Yeah mate for sure, you do get enticed by young talent, remember thinking how good Brad Green and Cam Bruce were gunna be after their 2000 final series, n whilst both have had very good careers you cant help but think they fell short of our lofty expectations.

One thing is for certain is that once you get a bit of a rep in the league teams start paying a bit more attention to you. The great ones handle this extra attention and develop more facets to their game. I hope Howe is a great.

I must admit I wasn't overly enthused initially when we drafted Howe. "Why take a mature age, midsized forward that nobody's heard of with an early pick" I wondered to myself. Shows how little I know!

He has been fantastic. Still a long way to go, but he possesses the tools to make it. Pretty much puts an end to Bate's career at Melbourne.

I thought the same thing. But Howe isn't just a mid sized forward who could use his height, he's a genuine marker of the ball and a genuine footballer. I'm very happy with him now.

Before the start of the year I was wondering if we were going to unearth some more talent this year, and in Tapscott, Howe, Nicholson, Gawn and Evans I think we've done pretty well.

Also love to see a player who has great agility and no problem to turn onto and use his left foot!

Howe, Cook, Watts, Jurrah, Sylvia all in the same forward line next season is pretty exciting.

Howie's playing a great role at the club hitting up and presenting on the half forward line. He's playing very well for a third gamer. Always makes it a contest.

totally agree, breath of fresh air to have a reliable player in our 50m arc. Watts is becoming reliable and sylvia is spending time in attack. We're starting to look the goods up there again

also great profile pick. Vampira \m/

As well as the obvious ie marking, kicking both feet etc, I like his work rate when he hasn't got the ball especially his shepherding and leading.

A quality all round forward in the making.

I really like this quote:

''He's unbelievable - you can just kick it anywhere near him and he'll make the kicker look good,'' Stefan Martin said of Howe.

Certainly doesn't hurt considering our delivery sometimes.

Posted

He's quite possibly single-handedly killed off the careers of both Bate and Dunn at the MFC.

Not the craziest call i've ever heard.

His first 3 games and he's already better than Bate and Dunn have ever been

Bate, Dunn and Newton... thats the 2004 draft

Looks like his teammates are getting to know what he can do. He's fitting in very nicely.

Howe is a really exciting prospect.

He doesn't have the X-factor of Jurrah, but he works hard to find the footy and uses the ball well.

I think it makes it even more difficult for Bate to crack into the team.

Agreed. Howe gives us everything Bate's meant to give us, plus more.

Bate's career with Melbourne is surely over.

Howe about that!!!! Nice. I'm taking everything a week at a time though. Sorry for the cliche' but it was a pretty deleted Freo, and at the G lol

Can you lose the font, it makes your posts almost unreadable

OR

2009- Scully,Trengove,Gysberts,Tapscott

Man, he makes our forward line look so much better.

21 possessions, 12 marks of which 3 were contested and 2 goals today.

For a third gamer that is some seriously impressive stuff. He's going to play a really important part in our premiership aspirations.

Yep-- It is a pity you or I haven't got him in our Ultimate footy team-RFPC has- and since gaining him has reached the 8.He is going to become a very handy player whom is allot more flexible than Robbo.Could play HBF, Wing, small/Mid/Tall forward..Great gain.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
