zoning, manning up- not sure how to do these at once. blocking, well he isn't on his own there. but this is a guy I watched miss a goal from 10m out ina practice game last year. improvement, yes. perfection, no. get off his back.

I'm glad that we agree on the need for improvement. Not once have I spoken about perfection. This is a Stef Martin thread and I have an opinion. Thanks.

Best thing about Martins progress in the ruck is that when Jamar returns, the big Russian will be able to spend more time in the forward line....which will make us much more dangerous and free up LJ and few others.....

Perhaps - but he needs to hone his defensive skills at Casey.

I applaud you jumbo, in these difficult and uncertain times you have achieved what I thought was the unpossible, you have united Demonland..

unpossible

Unbossible.....or even impossible becoming possible. i.e. two quality ruckmen. If Stef can clunk some contested marks and kick some goals he will be a weapon. Watch this space!

Come on, Benno, let's talk footy. Don't make fantastical comparisons.

Come on Jumbo big Steph is making you look plain silly!

What a great game he really is coming on in leaps and bounds...

On ya Steph!

The most improved for 2011. He just keeps getting better.

Hands down, improver/surprise packet of the year.

We actually have more than one ruckman now. Hooray!

I say when Jamar is back, straight to FF.

+1

The success story of the year.

With every injury there's a silver lining. If Jamar hadn't gotten injured Martin would never have gotten an extended run in the ruck.

We can feel comfortable with Jamar as number and Martin as number 2 , can at least break even with any combo in the league

This year Martin has come along beautifully .

His's confidence and surer ball skills were on show from the pre-season .

So he might have to sort a few things , they all do .

As he develops further he'll be a major asset IMO .

With big Max around the ruck division will be bullet proof .

Martin at Casey. Lolz

Stef was brilliant last night... Basically beat three of them with very little assistance, due respect to first gamer going going Gawn!

His development this year and ability to stand up when asked to spearhead the ruck has been beyond anyone's reasonable expectations.

Congrats Stef!

The Ruck rule changed and there was a need for a hybrid Ruck/Forward based on the Leigh Brown experiment. While the rest of the comp go looking for this mythical beast, we have unearthed the first hybrid Ruck/Midfield/Backman/Forward. Martin is bloody everywhere, and he is running down midfielders, winning contested possession in the guts and floating back to spoil.

Steph Martin is now easily in our best 22.

I'll give credit where credit is due and the young man was very good last night.

He did things that were required last night - he blocked, chased and stayed on his man.

This is the point I've been trying to make all along.

With all due respect, I wouldn't pop him at full forward - he gets the yips. Rest him off the bench or go to the back pocket.

You haven't really got a point. Stef's game last night was an extension of what he's been doing ever since Jamar went out, you only just noticed it for the first time just now.

I thought he was good last night, but I disagree that he's had a good month. 2 or 3 repeat performances and I'll be happy and I'll be wrong...but, no, not yet.

Thanks.

PS Loved the video.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
