I want Jack to play so well it is obvious that he is the No. 1 Kid in the Land and we're getting a great deal at pick 3...

Im just a little curious why some would think we might be having to pay 'overs' for Viney. hes widely looked upon as being at the very top end of the draft ( were he available to all ) and so paying 3 for a top 3 kid is ...well about on the money.

Yes, it is much fairer than the old system and while we handwring that we are the first team to have to use such an important pick on a player - this is the kind of player they were trying to keep teams from stealing in the later rounds.

Viney at 25 would be ludicrous.

Doesn't mean we can't try for it, however...

Nice to meet you rhaz.

You dont no the first thing about me.

It would be diffrent if we had D.Martin and J.Trengrove

I beg to differ. He knows that you continually misspell our captain's name. As unfathomable as that is by now.

I think it's time to say we will not win this fight as we are dealing with a club of rats (kevin and gubby)

So we should be holding talks with GC right now to swap pick 3&4 for there pick 1.

MFC get Viney and Whitfield

GC get Toumpas and Stringer.

This has got to be a win win im sure Stringer & Toumpas Together are of more value to GC then just Whitfield.

And MFC get the best Kid and Viney.

The best part of this deal is poor Gubby and Kevin have no say SUCK SH&& boys.

The best solution yet.

If you must know anyone with a brain is happy when there team is SH&& and gets pick 1 and 2 instead of just pick 1.

But we all know what happen there.

Im all for getting my hands dirty if MFC wins.

Your one of them have a cheap shot keyboard tuff guys? Yes lol

Pretty sure trade week is after FS nomination to stop these deals happening

All this would mean is we use pick one and lose picks 3 and 4

Guest José Mourinho

Thanks for the advice.

Ok, here's how I think it'll play out (assuming ladder positions remain the same);

Pick 3 - we take Viney due to a team below us bidding for him

Pick 4 - we keep to use in the draft

Pick 12 - we keep to use in the draft, or possible trade to Port in the Boak deal

Pretty straightforward. No trying to hide players, no need to do outside deals. We get 2 of the top 5 kids in the draft, and possibly an established midfielder. You're right Jose - it's not rocket surgery.

Jesus billy, I didn't realise I was making it so hard for you to understand.

Under your proposal we'd get:

Pick 3 - we take Viney due to a team below us bidding for him

Pick 4 - we keep to use in the draft

Pick 12 - we keep to use in the draft, or possible trade to Port in the Boak deal

+

Pick 23 approx.

Under mine we'd get:

Mini-draft pick 1/2

Pick 4 - we keep to use in the draft

Pick 12 - we keep to use in the draft, or possible trade to Port in the Boak deal

Pick 23 approx used to select Viney

Now which is better for MFC?

You're essentially saying that you think Pick 23 would be better value than mini-draft pick 1 or 2.

And you want the club to spite GWS and GCS to it's own detriment.

Interesting just then on TFS.

Love how Melboune are playing hardball on this, such a difference for us.

Awesome how Barrett said Todd Viney is backing MFC not nominating his son if he isn't worth a top 4 pick, and you can tell by Lyons reaction and sly comments that he is in on the clubs "hardball plans".

This makes me happy, and perhaps a little hopeful that we may be able to

secure 2 top 5 picks and still get Viney as well.

I had a feeling there was a reason to watch the footy show tonight. Damien Barrett believes that if GWS nominates Viney as a first round draft choice we will let him go.

Perhaps we're playing a bit of poker here, who's bluff will come off!?

I actually think this is great to hear, I really want Jack at the Dees but we need to start playing hardball and the fact that Todd is apparently on board with it is fantastic.

Reality is that if Jack is worth say pick 10, we'd be fools to pick him up for pick 3, despite the emotional connection and his having trained with us.

Obviously engineered to put doubt in the mind of GWS. However, I'm more concerned about GC bidding on Viney than GWS. Ultimately I think GWS will finish last and they won't risk sacrificing Whitfield, while GC could use another tough inside midfielder and I don't think they will hesitate using pick 2 on Viney.

Melbourne are leeking the appropriate stories to create doubt for our competitors but ultimately I think it will all be in vain... at least they're trying though.

But would GC, or GWS for that matter risk picking up a kid who may walk out on the club in 2 years time to return home (Melbourne), then they would have totally squandered a high draft pick?

If Jack is not a clear pick 1 or 2 they take the risk of having to take him if they nominate and we blink. In which case we'd get the one they passed over for Jack.

High risk poker indeed.

I guess we are willing to risk 'losing' Jack because we know that he'll request a trade home in 2 years. Of course there is no guarantee he'll be successful in returning to Melbourne, but you put that out there in your interview, and you watch clubs go off you. Nic Nat rings a bell?

We'd be stupid not to do everything in our power to keep picks 3 & 4.

I think they would back themeselves in to keep their recruits at the club, much like west coast and adelaide who have no problem retaining their talent. Say Viney still wanted to come back to victoria after 2 years, we still have 8 other clubs to contend with to get him to our club and they won't give him up lightly.

Adelaide and West Coast are powerful, successful rich clubs. Wtf are GC and GWS if not a home for unlucky teens and mercenaries?

Believe me I agree with the sentiment but both GC and GWS have already locked away long term contracts for a lot of their players already and that includes the extremely homesick Harley Bennell. Only one player has expressed a desire to leave in that time, that being Josh Caddy, and he may still yet sign with the Suns.

All a bit of smoke and mirrors by the club.

Just trying to pressure GC and GWS into making a hard call.

I still firmly believe we will take him at Pick 3 if required.

But I applaud the club for turning the blowtorch back on the expansion teams.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
