Bored sifting through the numerous threads about why we are not playing well, who is playing badly or coaching badly, how much our injuries and inexperience have cost us and how spineless the red and blue world really is... yawn.

So figured I'd play the optimist and raise the prospect that things will get better after the next month from hell.

It's gonna suck if we lose to the Blues, Pies, Dons and Saints but the process of separating the wheat from the chaff at the MFC will occur during the next month with Round 13 offering a turning point...

In Round 13 we play Freo at the G with likely inclusion in the team by that match being: Trengove, Jamar, Scully, Mackenzie, Bail, Rivers. No small inclusions. Also, over the next month we shall see what a bunch of our untried players have to offer; Gawn, Blease, Cook, Evans, Howe, etc... and we may even find another Gem or two.

And if we can re-boot by Rd 13 there are 8 winnable games on the way home to enjoy...

i like the OP. I think these next four games are going to be tough, but we shouldnt just write them off.

Our ability to kick a winning score relys on guys like sylvia and davey kicking goals. Also bringing back bate and Dunn being suspended will give us a better forward line structure

PaulRB I have been doing exactly as you suggest for the majority of the last 45 years I am getting a little weary of the process.

I blame my father if only he had supported Hawthorn, Carlton or god forbid Collingwood!

I'm tipping we'll smash the Saints this week.

I'm tipping you should smash your rose glasses!

Just joking, but like your confidence.

Wish I could share it.

Likewise.

I will be happy with 4 Qtr's of effort given the circumstances.

I'm not proposing we raise the white flag and go skiing.

Simply noting that it is always darkest before the dawn, and the endless navel gazing angst and search for someone to blame on this site is tiresome.

The pain and humiliation of this year (and the past three) will reap rewards in years to come, as young players harden up fast, and players unable to move forward are ditched.

Hope we beat the Saints

Carn the Dees.

Personally I don't think we're a snowflakes (no pun intended) bloody hope in hell of winning vs St Kilda this week.

We are just completely and utterly shizenhouzen at Docklands for whatever $%&%ing reason. We turn up time after time after time with absoutely ZERO intensity, ZERO hard running, ZERO guts, ZERO desire, ZERO heart etc.

This just has a classic 10 goal "not even in the game" type hammering feel to it imo. We will play the Saints into form and they will be off to the races, season on again for them.

I mark them $1.20 chances. We were so [censored] poor last week that I was reminded about it about two hours ago and now I'm in a VERY grumpy mood.

I expect us to find some consistency this week so it's the Saints by 62 points.

I really hope to be proven wrong but strongly doubt I will be.

Personally, I'd be happy with 3 good games (preferably in a row) against any good sides who put real pressure on us in the way that Hawks & West Coast & North did. I don't care what time of the year it is, it could be Rounds 22 to 24 for all I care. All I want is for us to work out how to not go under as soon as the other side puts real pressure on us.

Frack that.

The next month will be tough, and that is when we will see what this team is made of upstairs.

Personnel aside, we should be giving more than we are.

I think the word you are struggling to find is "competitiveness" :)

yes I know sometimes I think all there is left to do is "pray for a miracle"

It will probably work as well as anything else.

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form
