'Scully talks'

I don't understand why people think that Scully would not want to stay at Melbourne? Apart for chasing some extra money from GWS there is no other reason to leave.

Melbourne is a great club with a great history, great facilities, a great president, great supporters, a great home ground and a great list.

Why would he be searching for complex reasons to get to Collingwood or Richmond?

The same could arguably said of Richmond, in fact their list is looking better by the week.

Certainly, the great president and great supporters doesn't hold true for the filth. :)

a little bit more than "some extra" by all reports... but yeah...no reason at all

haha some extra cash... I mean hey what's a couple of million between mates.

It's not everything thats for sure.

Apart from Ablett hasn't been enough for most of the other players in the league.

Besides isn't the money being touted for Scully more than Ablett is allegedly taking home?

Which is unbelievable if true......

But then again it's the "if true" that has me very wary about any and all of this.

I find it funny with the talk of great players don't leave Melbourne and one name has not been mentioned.

If you think of the number Scully wears you might get a idea :P

come on mate.. relevance?

it's clear we haven't often lost our best players, but unfortunately though it has to be said that most of the time our best players haven't been superstars of the comp and hence have been less likely targets for poaching

In the last 40 years it hasn't been the case of who left but of who we never arrived.

People were throwing names around who had left and I found it funny that one of if not the best player we have ever had left.

So the relevance is to those who were throwing names around and others who were debating whether or not they were stars etc forgot to mention the great #31

The whole bloody team can up and leave to play with Carlton if they give me 6 flags.

You claim that Melbourne alwaays keep their best players. Fact is they don't. Will that fit on a sticker?

How about "When someone proves me wrong, I come out with the stupid MFCSS crap that the cool group on Demonland use when someone doesn't agree whith them". Might need a fairly big car.

I explained what I meant and you belittled my opinion and illustrated your complete lack of faith in the club at the minute.

We all say "Hasn't Stynes done a great job! We are gonna have respect soon!"

Well you don't get respect until you act like you deserve it.

We. Don't. Lose. Our. Best. Players.

Welcome to the Melbourne Football Club.

No, you have said if we say that we do not lose our best players they will stay. There is nothing that you have written that backs this up. Still doesn't make much sense to me.

Agree with RPFC, if we want to become a relevant football club in the year 2011 and not 1964 then the club must simply not lose it's best players.

This is not for us to decide how, this is for our incredibly capable president and talented football department to ensure that Scully wears the number 31 through our Premiership tilt.

I often refer to NMFC as an increasingly irrelevant football club, if we lose Scully the Melbourne Football Club will continue to be lumped with the kangaroos and bulldogs as the basket cases of the AFL. Tough but true!

I'm trying to make a statement, not assuage any misgivings or fears you have about our players leaving.

If we wish to be a big club, we cannot have a mindset of "assuming players are leaving so that if it happens you are not disappointed."

That's a defeatist attitude and below what we wish to be as a club. Is it not?

We have made significant improvements to our club and it's staff, facilities, networks, and playing list.

When do we get to have some more confidence in our clubs ability to keep its best players and attract the best?

There you go.

"We are relevant."

We have to believe it ourselves before we can convince anyone else.

Oh, I like that line...

We have not lost a game this year!

Nice to say, doesn't make it true.

I've said this a number of times. He's NOT going anywhere......... He WILL get well looked after by the MFC. I mean who else is getting the money? Only the last 2years we have paid 100% of the salary cap. Hence the reason we got rid of Bruce he was our higest paid player. So we could deal with this situation.

All this talk is great for his manager and he's loving all the threads regarding Tom leaving. The more hysteria about the issue the less he has to work. He would love the dribble that's being written on here. I'll say it one more time. He enjoys the club, is a MASSIVE family man and is very tired of what supporters are saying regarding the topic.

Grow up and put yourselves in his shoes. He's doing everything that I would do if I wanted a pay rise and was in high demand. He can command dollars and he will get the dollars, from the Melbourne FC that is.

End of story

It's the goal you set, in an attempt to reach it.

Like - "senior players will be shining example of a proper attitude and consistency..."

Hasn't happened, but you shouldn't expect anything less.

The Herald Sun is trying to feed the panic merchants and give this story fresh legs

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/meagre-pickings-if-tom-scully-leaves-demons/story-e6frf9jf-1226063076746

They are implying that if Scully were to leave, we'd received around pick 17 in return.

Uh... No.

Not only would we likely receive more than that, due to the "formula" taking into account salary, b&f placing and draft position, the AFL set up a panel including Shifter Sheehan to ensure there are no anomalies.

Anything less than a number 1 pick would be a serious anomaly.

Fortunately, this is all academic anyway, being Scully is staying put.

Posted

I think the Herald article is also saying that Toms value has slid this year with his injury and subsequent absence from the field.

Posted

Hmm don't they take draft position and future potential into account?

Jon Ralph really seems to be getting stuck into the Dees of late.

Well if it isn't our good friend Ralphy. Hope he's off the mark again.

i can just see melbourne rolling over and giving the old cliche 'oh, well tom is a great player but he is only 1 player and no 1 player is greater than the culture that we have developed at melbourne. We will move forward and seek to grab a star player with pick 17'. Such a thing bailey would say

Fair dinkum. Why do so many here wake up in the morning, see grey skies and feel so down with no positive outlook?

Have faith in your club to make the right moves in the best interests of it's members/supporters.

We'll fight tooth and nail to keep our best players.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
