That's absolutely wrong... if you read the article, you would have seen that the "rumblings" Crawford mentioned were in relation to indiscretions by other players in the group... nothing to do with anyone being offered the VC position or the coaching position.

Sometimes on this site it's very difficult to discern what is and what is not sarcasm... my apologies.

Throw away comments like that by Crawford are an absolute cop-out. He's thrown question over the professionalism of the entire playing list without offering any shred of evidence. If he's heard something and wants to write an article about it then have the guts to name the players in question. It's not fair on the rest who are professional in their approach to their footy.

The standard of journalism in our game is getting worse every season. It's truly appalling.

Crawford is a journalist?

It is a dirty cowardly act. I can understand why he might not name any individuals, but he hides behind saying absolutely nothing.

Have you heard the rumour that all is not well in the household of a well-known Hawthorn player which may lead to a big blow-up and serious repercussions?

Apparently there are distinctions to be drawn between opinion, advocacy, citizen journalism etc - I read somewhere the first is taking over most other forms big time.

This silver tongue is neither a journalist nor an opinion maker, just a media ratbag - In My Humble Opinion ofcrawf.

Move along peoples nothing to see here!!!

I agree with a lot of what he says. I didn't like the way the Moloney matter was handled, either.

Range Rover, Crawford is suggesting Moloney be dropped. Surely that is a penalty against the team. No matter how it may have been handled (by the club) or perceived (via the media) surely the player was at fault. Why hobble the team in that respect? Just to send a tougher message?

Much better idea to take the VC than drop him. He knows he'll get a game again. He doesn't know if he'll become VC again.

We need on-field leaders. We just about have none.

no, I apologise for being soft.

We have no on-field leaders. None. We suck. "If it has to be, then let's hope some-one else is up for it", is the team's motto.

By leaders, I mean someone who, by their example, is not only able to inspire others to play their best footy, in a physical and effective way, but also influence the outcome of the match - contest by contest. In my opinion, Moloney - by virtue of his position on the ground and role within the team - is the closest we have. He has a damn sight more effect on a game than Green, Sylvia, Rivers, etc. The closest second is Jamar.

Beamer needed to be sat on his arse . Now he needs to come out and establish his leadership credentials. He'll not do that by thinking broadly. he'll do it by smacking into blokes, tackling hard, smothering etc. He'll really emphasise on-field stuff, in a team desparate for it.

We were soft against hawthorn. We were soft against Brisbane. If we even let GC get a sniff we are vulnerable because we are a physically and mentally soft team. Let's hope that Beamer continues his on-field rise this year. He has a nice little motivator now.

Herald Sun

I wonder what the rumblings are he talks of, and who they are?

Yet another example of the media industry, composed of hacks and ghost writers attemtping to justify their existence.

1400 accredited journo-types with the AFL produces crap like this everyday.

Crawford was great player - let's leave it there.

A tougher penalty was required. And I'm a believer in these type of situations, given where the club has come from, in penalizing the group for indiviudal indiscretions.

We need to a create a no-nonsense culture at the MFC.

Of course we need to create a no-nonsense culture but I wouldn't be doing it your way.

I have a student who went to school with one of the Demons' recent high draft picks. For the sake of propriety I will call the prominent draftee Oliver Reed. My student often says things like "Oliver Reed was blind last week" and "Oliver Reed was at The Hot Night Spot off his face" and, worst of all, "Oliver Reed is a great guy", which is young bloke code for "Oliver Reed is a party animal".

Mind you, the following two paragraphs, both containing unattributed and nameless allegations, suggest Crawford's articles are being ghosted by an experienced* journalist.

There have been other little murmurings that the professionalism of a few within the group has not been what it should be.

And if the rumblings are correct and some players are not toeing the line as they should be, you would hope it would not have an impact on the Demons' young star Tom Scully's decision whether to stay or go at the end of the season.

* Experienced: Capable of inciting debate.

Did he mention that Oliver Read is 19, trains hard 5 days a week, plays hard once a week and drinks and parties with his mates, Wow, what a story

I have it on good authority that Scully has been concerned with the drinking culture at Melb, which is one of the reasons he left the China trip early.

I suspect that this culture prevails at many clubs, but I hear enough about Melbourne and players such as Watts, to wonder if anyone senior at Melbourne is getting their message through.

I think other people are alluding to a certain young player at our club so without naming names i hear the same thing. So and so was blind drunk last weekend, etc etc. Usually about the same person and its really really disappointing.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
