WHERE THE SUNS WON’T SHINE

I am glad they have given Watts another game, especially against some younger players. Hopefully he stands up and plays well and answers some of the doubters, although I doubt a good game against the Suns will quiten too many people down.

I also dont think they should have the same player as a sub 2 weeks in a row, in usual circumstances, however as Morton has come back from injury and has not got the fitness for a full game I can see him subbing again or at least being the subbed player if there are no injuries.

I was hoping Maric would come back in, as reward for a great game after being dropped, to send the message to other players that they need to step up when they go back to Casey. Who I would have dropped for him, I am not sure, maybe Morton (but I rate Morton and want him in too!).

I could see Bennell maybe as a sub, just trying to think of a versatile player on the bench, or maybe one of our key backs, as they dont have a particularly damaging forward line atm.

I thought perhaps Maric could have replaced Dunn in the starting line-up. IMO Dunn has been very ordinary the last couple of weeks.

Aussie could be a good sub option as he has the ability to come on and tear it up with speed if he really wants to!!

I think we've pretty much settled on our best 22.

Only slight changes will be made at the fringes of our team (from 16th - 22nd best players). Maric, Jetta, Petterd will play some games. Scully and McKenzie also when they're fit... but by in large this is our best 22.

What we now need to do is for our best 22 players to play together consistently. We need them to know how each other play and to start to read eachother intuitively.

That kind of team unity and team cohesion is an essential ingrediant for a premiership and will only come from playing consistently together.

For that reason I'm glad they're not making little chops n changes for no apparent reasons (Eg. Maric to Dunn pretty pointless imo).

The guys on the cusp on the 22 will play when injuries inevitably arise. Until that happens, a stable team will lead to increased success

People say that it is a good opportunity for Watts to play against kids but GC have a former AA CHB in Bock playing who is very likely to take Jack... No easy task for Jack at all!

Watts should buy a tattslotto ticket.. Luckiest guy in the afl getting a game!

Dunn, Bennell, Morton, Moloney....there's a few in that camp.

No change to last weeks squad vs. Brisbane...

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/111762/default.aspx

I thought Maric should get a game based on his VFL from last week and pre-season form....

Morton, will he be the sub again??

Thoughts??

Some thoughts.......

Don't see any sense in Morton being sub 2 weeks in a row. He needs match time

If its wet they may decide Martin as sub

Alternatively even though Dunn is nominally in starting 18 he could be sub (my choice)

Another option is someone could drop out and emergency (Petterd,Maric, wont be Strauss) becomes sub

So no swinging of the axe after a far below-average performance against a depleted bottom 3 side in Brisbane at the MCG. Awesome.

Is Petterd in our best 22?? I for one thought he was. Is Dunn doing enough to be in the team at present?? A straight swap, Petterd in at the expense of Dunn, would have been ideal.

We were so desperate to retain the Gold Coast-born Petterd and ensure he doesn't get touched by the GCS, and in 4 rounds he has been played once... as a sub for a fourth quarter in which he DOMINATED and almost won us the damn match!!!

I feel for Ricky, I really do. Watts is the luckiest bloke out there to be given another chance. Dunn.... lift your game also.

Of course, Maric is unlucky but I think it is best to see if he can string 2-3 great games together for Casey.

Bailey is now REALLY starting to pi** me off....

Also everybody calling for petterd to return, read how he played for casey apparently not that well..... yeah he only got 1.5 games so did maric..... until he dominates the VFL for a few games he doesnt deserve to come back,

p.s i love the bloke will be best 22 soon just not before putting it on paper

Morton won't be sub.

The whole idea is to have a versatile bloke who can impact the game in a short space of time. I believe it is likely to be someone like Dunn given his size, strength and ability to kick goals.

If it is wet then they may opt for Martin...

I like the team they have chosen. I also like that there is competition for spots.

Here's hoping for a fast ruthless start from the boys and a 30 point lead at quarter time....(and of course a 10 goal win at the end- although if that happened some on here would still say it wasn't good enough and they should win by 200).

No-one said we were "desperate" to sign Petterd, in Round 1 he was very effective when he first came on but saying he "dominated" is maybe stretching it, he didn't do all that well against Hawthorn, and then had what was described as a "flakey" game at Casey.

Two so-so games in a row, one of them at Casey, just isn't really enough anymore.

I think many people on this site choose to ignore the work that Dunn does off the ball. He has not been close to our worst.

He hasn't been on his best form this year. Thats why he's been named on the Interchance recently.

He doesn't look as committed as last year, so far.

Couldn't be unchanged. Campbell Brown is out for 4 weeks for starters.

sorry my bad . . . . didn't read Jack was referring to GC, I assumed MFC....sloppy

No worries daisycutter. we got the team in the end.

Most of us would be looking to see if anything was happening with G Ablett. Obviously, the Suns are taking a conservative approach with their # 1 asset. Calf injuries can be a real pest if they're not managed properly and of course, resting it for a week or two would benefit him and the club in the long term.

As far as the Demons are concerned, those who have an issue with Lynden Dunn might not recall he was very handy in his last game at the Gabba.

Confirmed: The news is that Gold Coast Suns have been rocked by the withdrawal of captain Gary Ablett. WW is now more nervous than ever believing that Ablett's replacement will carve us up in the middle.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
