This. And it's not just that, his over-consciousness of getting hit causes him to spill easy marks at critical moments, even when he wasn't in any real danger. He's done this heaps of times in his career. Makes me grumpy.

As you say, Petterd is the polar opposite. Even when he's not in great form you know he'll have a dip. It's an easy choice for me.

You and I have said that for ages, while others were fooled by his chest bumping mongrel, calling him "hard at it".

In: Petterd

Out: Dunn

Was Petterd any worse than Dunn in Round 2 anyway?

Would also like to see Strauss in, but there's no-one he can really replace.

Bartram.. He's had so many chances but has shown little improvement in his 90 odd games. It baffles me why he is an untouchabled. I don't follow the Super Coach game, but those I know who do and who take it seriously say his low scoring tells a story the FBD should take not of. If we think there is no one on our list who can do a better job we are in trouble

Dunn lucky to be named as a starter.

Jones and Martin are certainties for bench. The big qn is will Watts survive?

Thats an intersting move as Martin has been good, and Dunn very questionable. If it's Wet, we may goo smaller, resting Martin... I would say that Newton being suspended, has saved Dunn as the backup follower .

If it's dry, Martin may play.

It baffles me that you think that. If we were electing "best MFC small defender" right now Clint would win unopposed.

lol

I mean, I understand when Bartram has bad kicking games, the calls to drop him, it's frustrating watching him put it OOTF etc... But when he plays a game making no glaring mistakes and gets crunched putting his body on the line, people still want him out.

He's come a long way, is as hard as anyone and is the only real back pocket we have. Take him out of the team and we get even softer and give some tiprat forward a head start.

Clint can't kick more than about 30 meters. He's also a player who is aware of his limitations and rarely tries anything he's not capable of. It's only when he's got absolutely no other choice that he goes for the hoof and bad things happen. I'm a fan - I don't love him but I've got plenty of respect for him, and I think that the player who will displace him isn't on our list yet.

It makes me grumpy too, as do supporters who think he's tough. One word. CASEY.

There I go again using capitals!

Can someone tell me what Strauss has done to deserve his recall to the seniors? All reports from Casey are that he is not exactly setting the world on fire

The only way Strauss will be on fire at the moment is if we put him in the next add so he can have a burning tale and horns

AFL Teams on Foxtel reported that Ablett didn't train with the Suns today due to a calf injury... they (Suns) are saying he will play, but it has to make you wonder just how effective he will be. Not looking good for them at all if they have to go without Brown AND Ablett (or a half fit Ablett).

Ablett hasn't been able to train all week apparently. Test on Saturday.

Well we must hunt Ablett and make him run at all costs....Make him earn the inflated fortune he is on.

No Sympathy.

The Fold Coast look like Large Mcdonald's Fries containers running around, their jumper is so.......nothing.

You should maybe attend a few of the Casey games deeflog and you would understand. Looks a class above, started shakily last week but was among the orchestrators for the Casey comeback in the third and was extremely solid defensively which is his primary role. I think Strauss is one of those players that would benefit from a higher class of footy, VFL games out at Pt Melb etc end up being a bit of a scrap with no real clean possessions.

I think Blease is in a similar boat, in the second quarter last week he gathered on the HBF and ran the lines beaaautiffulllyyyyy. I really doubted his abilities after the shocking leg break but seeing that last week made me understand why we drafted him.

These kids will come good, it wasn't a ready made draft like 09. Watts and Blease were still at school and Strauss had never played against the bigger bodies either. You could say they were all a little further behind having to play school footy as well, which is obviously a dramatic step down from the TAC cup/VM sides. Trenners and Tappy had both played senior SANFL footy and Scully was simply a Jet, hence their immediate impact.

I'd put him in an aslyum boat after watching the Casey game last week TDW. He did one good run and spent the rest of the game carrying on on the boundary line or getting beaten by his opponent in conditions where classy players would prove to be a class above their VFL pals. He did not. May be a good player one day old Blease but he is rawer than the chicken at Sofias.

No change to the side that monstered such a powerful lions outfit last week, personally I would've brought Petterd in for Morton, give him a full run at Casey to get some match fitness before he's a regular for the seniors again.

No change to last weeks squad vs. Brisbane...

http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7415/newsid/111762/default.aspx

I thought Maric should get a game based on his VFL from last week and pre-season form....

Morton, will he be the sub again??

Thoughts??

I am glad they have given Watts another game, especially against some younger players. Hopefully he stands up and plays well and answers some of the doubters, although I doubt a good game against the Suns will quiten too many people down.

I also dont think they should have the same player as a sub 2 weeks in a row, in usual circumstances, however as Morton has come back from injury and has not got the fitness for a full game I can see him subbing again or at least being the subbed player if there are no injuries.

I was hoping Maric would come back in, as reward for a great game after being dropped, to send the message to other players that they need to step up when they go back to Casey. Who I would have dropped for him, I am not sure, maybe Morton (but I rate Morton and want him in too!).

I could see Bennell maybe as a sub, just trying to think of a versatile player on the bench, or maybe one of our key backs, as they dont have a particularly damaging forward line atm.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
