Mick Malthouse

Living in Sydney we have had the spectacle of Wayne Bennett announcing his intentions to move whilst coaching another club.

So why not this scenario: Malthouse is signed by the Dees for the 2013 year with him saying (as he has to that he will honour his obligations at Collingwood). He can be signed up right now. Leaves Eddie in the position of making him sit out 2012 but it would throw the cat among the pidgeons and given Malthouses recent demeanour I think he would delight in doing it.

I like Roos as a coach who turns average players into important team players with a never say die attitude and I dont care how ugly our premiership win is.

Finally what if neither is available or wants to coach us who is the next best alternative?

That is the key question and most likely scenario

Justin Leppitsch at Richmond

Mark Bickley at Adelaide

Jade Rawlings at the Lions

Mark Ricciuto?

Dare I say it.... Shane Woewodin

We're in a spot of bother if we can't lure a big name coach to the club.

If we are not talking to Malthouse, then we are not doing our job. We should be talking to Malthouse and Roos.

I would throw the kitchen sink at getting Malthouse to Melbourne.

As said, he would generate so much exposure and hype that he would pay for most of his wages on that and the QB clash would get 90k to it.

Hmmm.

I would have said:

Mark Neeld - the architect of the pies defensive structure; or

Brenton Sanderson - of whom James Hird has said he's the best coach he's ever seen and was being groomed by Geelong to take over from Thompson.

Both will coach a senior team next year. If we can't get Malthouse or Roos, I'll be furious if it's not one of them.

Firstly it is Brendan McCartney that Hird has talked up so much and Scott Watters has been said to be the one who has introduced the Collingwood Defensive structure as much as Neeld has, so he could be one to look at too.

Right you are on Brendan McCartney. Didn't think Sanderson sounded right (the fact about being groomed at Geelong still stands however)

Neeld's been very highly rated for a long time. I wouldn't say no.

We all just need to settle a bit, as devastating as last night was, this is going to happen to us , it happened to collingwood it happened to the swans and the eagles, it happened to the cats as well it also happened to the lions/bears( I know this because my stepdad was apart of their side for a good 12 years and I witnessed their ups and downs and i also watched them to go on and dominate to win 3 out of 4 grand finals...not an easy thing to do... and heres the kicker... all those young bears/lions were good but... needed time to develop because they were young and inexperienced and needed game time together and develop they did. But they did it tough for quite a while and I used to go to the gabba and watch them get hammered by a lot of teams with a lot of the guys that went on to become three peat premiers , and i know this as fact cos i was there) it also happened to port adelaide, remember when they kept choking ??? then they finally won one against the best team of that era?.(im aware they got flogged in a grand final but they broke thorugh) My point is choc williams was a new senior coach to the AFL after being an assistant at essendon dean has followed the same path in some regards, we have to be patient although still very frustrating and I was livid last night too, dont worry, especially now that im a paying member, but after my blood cooled i put things into perspective. Those teams i have mentioned did it tough struggled and then finally broke through.... the demons are following the same eerie path and thinking about this I actually got a bit excited cos it put things into perspective. A tough road ahead does wait but keep our faith and belief in our team and the dream will come alive. Our test is against the crows good sides will bounce back maybe we might and that could also be a turning point for us,I love the demons have all my life like my father before me and although angry about last night....keep the faith I will :D

notice soem of the star wars speak... hahaha for a bit of fun ;)

Hawthorn demand Premierships...does Melbourne?

No And the hawks play tough not many choir boys in that lot.

Clarkson was no champion at Melbourne but he was one of the few over the years that was tough and hard at it.

Thats what he demands at Hawthorn

I think he won a flag in his fourth year, makes DB look a little ordinary

It's not just his salary - at Collingwood they spend double what we spend on their FD. If we talked to him we'd need to ask him what does he need in the FD to deliver a premiership. I'd expect him to say that he needs more than we are currently providing - possibly millions of dollars more. For example are we going to Arizona next year? I would be keen to canvas MM's interest but both sides need to go in with eyes wide open. The worst thing that could happen is to take him on and end up with him saying we couldn't provide the resources necessary for him to win a flag - maybe we need to find that out anyway.

Emmn, thats Carlton type money your talking then!

Does anyone know if Judd has taken a second job?

If the players want to play for Bailey they do a good job of pretending they dont. Matthews for mine. One scary dude.

I would think coaches would be lining up to have a go as coach of Melbourne.

Settled off field. At last.

Debt free.

Promising list.

In need of some real guidance on field.

Just think a lot of the footwork has been done and the club is up and coming but we have a total lack of respect from the competiton.

Sure some clubs have more spending money but thats also more reason to knock them off.

I definately wouldnt mind lethal at the helm.... he was good. And a real nice fellow when not coaching but a freaking mad dog when he was hahaha

I'd like to see some of our nice boys shirk contests with Lethal or Mick watching from the sidelines.

We need a coach our players ... from Col Sylvia through to Jamie Bennell ... fear and respect in equal measure.

I also forgot Hawthorn... who everone was calling for their coach... a former demon himself to be sacked... and then he turned it around with a prmeiership ;)

Hawthorn finished 5th in Clarkson's 4th year and then won the flag in his 5th year as coach. On our form this year we will be lucky to finish out of the bottom 4.

Holy crap since 2000 Collingwood have only missed the finals four times and never more than two years in a row, the Swans have only missed the finals three times since 2000 and never two years in a row. We are on track for missing the finals five years in a row, I think as members we have every right to be angry and wanting change. Either Malthouse or Roos to coach the Demons in 2012 for mine.

Yep some of those premiers have done it tough before breaking through but for every Brisbane, Hawthorn or Geelong there's another 10 Richmond's.

We can't keep accepting failure on the premise that the successful clubs failed before they succeeded otherwise we'll never get anywhere.

I agree with you as well. 5 years out of the finals is the longest stretch since I've been following the club (since 1987). Not good enough. With the talent on our list and the draw we've got this year we can reasonably expect to challenge for the 8. The way we are heading and the way we are playing suggests Bailey will not coach in 2012 and that being the case we have to look at EVERY option. We also need to invest more into our footy department if the likes of Collingwood are spending twice as much as us. This was the reason for the Debt Demolition to free up that cash to invest in the club.

When was the last time we had a coach with previous successful experience? Not Bailey, Daniher, Balme, Northey so well before my time. We need to try and get a successful coach, someone who can critically analyse and evolve the game (like a Rood or Malthouse).

Malthouse has coached for 27 years and won 3 flags, that's an average of 1 every 9 years. Dean Bailey is in to his 4th year, with his list in that time being of the poorest of standards, and facilities to match.

Give DB a 2 year extension, give him the opportunity to coach in the first year of our so called premiership window. While he is still developing some areas, this is the first genuine year where he can put more expectations on the players in terms of results. At seasons end, I belive we will be fighting for a place in the 8, but will probably finish 9th or 10th. Next year he will have his young troops with an extra year under their belt, and an extra preseason. A finals spot next year is quite important.

If he fails, then his replacement in 2014 will still have 6 years of some quality players and win a flag.

Totally Agree.

I personally think that Mick's opinion as to the ANZAC Day blockbuster being shared is quite the contrast to him saying Melbourne only get hyped up when they play against Collingwood. He is trying to heal old wounds. I'd say they are keen on each other.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
