Changes for next week

While I agree that it's not a great step forward to choose Newton in Watts' place, but you've got to be kidding me if you think 11 goals in two weeks is not "knocking the on the door". Actually I guess it isn't - more like charging at it with a battering ram.

Newton is doing everything right, but Newton is not a replacement for Watts.

If he was to come in it would have to be at the expense of Dunn or Martin, because that is the role he will be replacing.

No chance he is getting a game ahead of Martin for the moment, and Dunn has been OK without setting the world on fire.

IMO no matter how good Newton's performances in the VFL are, you don't drop a developing CHF who is meant to be a big part of our premiership push for a half forward/3rd tall who so far has proven to be terrible at AFL level.

We have to bite our tongue and keep persisting with Watts. For mine he will and should continue to get a game for as long as he stands tall in contests and puts in the hard yards. If he fumbles than so be it, but as long as he isn't ducking his head or not trying, there is no point dropping him. He will learn nothing with Casey that he doesn't already know in terms of skills. He is leading hard and is very good in one on one contests right now for his size, but he isn't impacting games yet. We all knew that wasn't gonna happen any time soon, so I don't get why the suggestions to drop him keep coming up.

Sorry, the rant is not related to anything you posted Nasher

thank god you are a lounge room selector. i know this is a forum for personal opinions, but that is a ridiculous selection

Wonna has a presence, work rate, understanding of where to be and when to be there......Marric has none of that

from reports from casey, admitedly i didnt see it, but he was very good, chasing, setting up goals and kicking a couple, and was best on? so therefore you dont suggest we reward him.

secondly i think it was a bit rough that he was dropped in the first place seeing as he didnt play that poor in the sydney match, and barely got a run in the second match.

thirdly, from watching the match i thought wonna looked a bit underdone, and his fitness didnt look up to where it should be, no doubt he adds something, but i dont think he should just be played to gain fitness if maric or jetta who both were unluckily dropped and had full preseasons are playing well, and it just so happened that maric did.

Couldn't agree more. Wonna is aggressive, fast and talented -- and yep, a real presence. Very surprising to hear someone suggest he be dropped.

you would drop Dunn before Watts?

Way before. They both contributed nothing, but Watts' tackles didn't stick, whereas Dunn's tackles were all over the shoulder. I'd prefer a young guy with good endeavour and good kicking skills over a free-kick giving, no possession getting player who should have stepped up years ago. Dunn should be our sub at best this week..

VFL compared to AFL intensity, major difference.

NAB cup compared to AFL premiership season intensity, major difference.

Maybe Marric is a good average player that excels when the heat at the contest is not as fierce as it at the top level.

Maybe as a small forward he does alright when we get the ball down there.

sure, he hasnt really proved it at the top level yet, but that doesnt mean you dont select him for a top performance in the vfl, i do not doubt wonna as a player but rather think that he is a little underdone, which is to be expected due to the fact he missed 7 weeks of pre season.

Davey into the forward line for a while to get his confidence back.

Persist with Morton - he's good when he's up and going - won't take long.

Petterd in for Dunn. Dunn not to be out for long though.

Jones to again play from half back - was great today.

Tapscott to get a run in the middle for small parts of the game. We looked better when big bodies were in the centre, he'd be a handy back up.

Somebody, anybody, to step TF up and be a marking forward. Maybe it's Juice for Martin - though Martin has been okay, I don't agree with those saying he's been great. Better yes - top 22 in a good team - no. Also not saying to drop him for good, but creating some competition b/w him and Juice might be a healthy thing.

Jurrah to play around half forward line instead of full forward line (as happened a bit today). Gets much more room and looks more comfortable and free-flowing there.

Vinny Cottogio out of retirement and onto the wing instead of Watts (if we're going to throw the baby out with the bath water we may as well go completely retro).

Bailey to sit in the coach's box with a view of the whole game instead of barracking from the boundary line.

Jordan Gysberts to be cloned and play on both wings, both half back flanks, and to be our substitute with fresh legs.

The fat sheila serving pies in the Olympic stand to show a little less ass cleavage next home game.

Watts is a long term prospect, who just turned 20 and has played 20 odd games.

I've been an advocate of getting games into Watts, but I recognise that he also needs to earn games; and right now he's not deserving.

I can see the point of him going on an interstate trip and playing against other Kids, but I'd also like to see him playing for Casey where he currently belongs.

Wona would have got votes in the Bluey today. His fwd line pressure was outstanding

11 possessions and a return of 1.3 wouldn't be enough to keep Maric, Jetta or Petterd in the side and being named in the best at Casey is obviously not enough for Maric and Jetta to get back in. It is fair that others get a second chance against Gold Coast regardless of how poorly they played this week. HMMM.

Newton might be a chance for the Gold Coast if the FD think Watts needs to get some good mentoring from the Fev.

Morton has just come back from a long injury lay off and gets 15 minutes and MFC are going to drop him for MacDonald. I dont think so.

Yeah and it's a pity Nathan Carroll isn't still around for a few social tips ! Seriously, Watts needs a spell with Casey...might just regain some confidence/form. Petterd was stiff to be dropped and should come back in spite of an average performance with Casey. As for Newton, to me, his retention on the list was the puzzle of the decade.Stiff-legged Ben Holland types belong to another era .!

Watts out.

Maric In.

Has no impact on the game. 6 possessions in nearly three quarters of football is not enough, especially when he had the third or fourth best defender. He seems to be an athlete who is not a footballer at the moment. I hear that other players are ignoring his leads, maybe he is not getting to the right spot. He needs to go back to Casey and learn the game, struggling at the top level cannot be doing him any good. In the past few weeks the the player who is struggling has been subbed then dropped the next week. This week it should be him.

The only way I would keep Watts in is to play him off the half back line to give him an education, but after the last few weeks that would be different rules for Watts and the rest of the playing group.

I still think he can be a good player, but like everyone else he needs to learn the game before playing at the top level.

Maric In,

I thought he was not given enough time to prove himself. Great preseason, then one bad game (hard to judge a quarter against Hawthorne when getting killed). Whet back to Casey with the right attitude, so should be rewarded.

This change would be a tall for a small, but aside from one good mark, Watts has not played as a tall target. With Dunn, Jurrah and Martin/Jamar, the forward line will be tall enough against the Suns. Give Maric a full game to see how he goes.

Out: Watts

In: Juice

I was so disappointed with what Jack Watts dished up today.

Being subbed off, said it all ! He gave us nothing.

Id say no change at the moment, however its time to reward players and drop those under performing and if that means, we bring in Juice and drop Jack, so be it.

Maric does not deserve a re-call. And there's absolutely no way he is better than Wonaeamirri, who played his role today exactly as Maric should have the last two weeks.

If Newton comes in, and I would not think that helps the MFC in any way at all, it would not be at Watts' expense, it would be at Dunn's. Whilst Dunn's not playing well, Newton is terrible. We all know it. He's had periods at Casey before where he kicks goals, but we all know that when he gets promoted he stinks. Just like PJ. There is no long term benefit at all.

Watts is not playing as badly as people think. There is more to it than just kicks/marks/goals etc. He is running hard, chasing, making space, leading etc. He is not 'undroppable', but he doesn't deserve it just yet.

If Maric had 11 possessions and a return of 1,3 would your argument be the same? Maric never got the luxury of two games. He deserves a shot for the same reasons as you argued Aussie deserved one last week. BOG with with 30 odd possessions and three goals laid a number of tackles and was everywhere.

Re Watts I have been a Watts supporter but after this weeks effort it is getting hard to justify him staying in.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
