Round two: Melbourne injury list

Robert Campbell (achilles) - 6-8 weeks

Troy Davis (thyroid disorder) - ongoing

Jack Fitzpatrick (foot) - test

James Frawley (shoulder) - test

Jeremy Howe (ankle) - test

Kelvin Lawrence (hand) - test

Jordie McKenzie (groin) - 5 weeks

Cale Morton (hand) - 1 week

Tom Scully (knee) - 3 weeks

If Campbell plays before July I will be very surprised. I think we rolled the dice and have lost on this one. Only a late rookie pick so not much lost I suppose.

Maybe mistaken but I thought Fitzpatrick was 3 - 4 weeks last week!

Old dee, we are building a young team from the bootlaces, out.

Why would we recruit a rookie in his mid too late 20's, if it wasn't foer insurance?

I'm absolutely sure it wasn't with a view of 2014. Our weakness is a mature depth ruckman to backup Jamar, if he were to go down. We wouldn't expect to need him nor want him prior to 1/3 season, at least. And we'll be wanting to give Spencer a few runs here & there. Then back a little bit, will be Gawn.

If Jamar were to be hurt,,, we wouldn't want to place all the load on Spencer. That would be unfair on him, at this stage. So, as a backup, we took a mature rookie. This is not anyway a failure. He may not be able to play a full season with his injury issues.

If we got 6 games out of him a year, when needed, he would have payed his way.

We are well on top of the drafting ledger.

He's not a player to build our list, as harsh & mercinary as that sounds. He's our insurance policy.

He could change that around himself to be a longer term situation. But thats what it is currently.

Good news is .... He ain't going anywhere .

Gets homesick travelling to Geelong games let alone moving to Sydney . ;)

That's not news.

Everybody knows that a diagnosis of three weeks on the MFC injury list actually means 6 to 8 weeks or more.

Just look at Robert Campbell. A month ago he was only a couple of weeks away from playing and now he's 6 to 8. At that rate he'll be 10 weeks away by the time we get to the bye.

Who's the phantom injury this week?

It may have slipped through to the keeper for some, but in his time out of AFL he started up a program developing kids to be more AFL-ready before they get drafted.

I don't think we really intended for him to play (AFL) at all -- the idea was for him to act as an on-field development coach at training & in the VFL.

Even when he can't get out there because of injury, he'd act as a valuable mentor.

If this was the case, wouldn't they have talked to him before the draft about it? Campbell was on SEN the day after the draft and had NO IDEA what Melbourne were thinking. Weird to draft a guy they had no intention of playing (which I don't believe)

I think it was one of the considerations when drafting him and it could be of benefit to our developing players.

I agree that we wouldn't have drafted with the intention of him never being able to play if required, but he's a damn sight more valuable to us than someone like PJ when he's not fit.

That would've worked heavily in his favour when deciding who to take with that rookie pick.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.     The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm.
