Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

I'd like to think this is the first year where the win-loss ratio counts a little. If we fail to win 8 games then surely he's out.

That isn't "counting a little", that's "counting absolutely", and it's an atrocious way of measuring a coach's worth.

I think the fact that we are now in a reasonable position financially lets us explore some options. To suggest we stick with a Coach because we could save cash is a terrible suggestion. Bailey does well this year then contract gets extension, we tread water or go backwards, then go after someone who is a great option, finances aside.

** again, i started this thread and i am a Bailey fan, but i am also a realist. Only the best for this club moving fwd, thats all i want.

Bailey hasn't put a foot wrong, has pulled off one of the great rebuilds of all time in fact, and deserves several more years regardless

i think he can lay claim to "one of the great rebuilds of all time" when he wins the ultimate prize!!l

yeah i mean purely from a recruiting POV at this stage. I know we got high picks for sucking so bad, but he did do a decent job in ensuring that we did if you know what I mean. He appears to have used all those picks well, got some gems with later picks, the rookie and the PSD drafts. Also a couple of brilliant trades and has let the right players go and at the appropriate times. In what we have seen him be able to get out of his brand new players he seems to be a great developer and teacher of players. Hard to believe the change in pure quality of cattle since he took over. This is what he pledged he would do when he was hired as coach and has done it in textbook fashion so far. Now he deserves a good crack at taking them from promising group to champion team

As Leigh Mathews stated after taking Brisbane to 4 GF's.. Its 80% the players 20% the coach.

Good recruiting is the start and we have that now.

Where the coach comes in is developing the players to get the most out of their ability, whatever it is. That is what the coach does, Malthouse does it very well.

From what I've seen and the little conversation with Bailey he seems to clear in his vision, and good with developing players. i.e. has a plan, play 2 games up and then go down and fine tune yourself to get ready again etc that we have seen.

The next stage is the skills the assistants bring to the club and that is where Malthouse wins, McKenna recently stated he often took training for the whole week instead of Mick. So Mick has time to plan and develop the vision and not get caught in the little things that other skills support staff can do.

That is also where the additional football budget come in. More support staff better development of players, the faster they contribute to the team.

I lok forward to a successful reign under Bailey, whether he can deliver a premiership we'll know shortly but the club believes in him and they have done everything else right in terms of management and staffing so far.

On a Malthouse related note, how on earth did this prickly selfish human being ever get to become the King of Moomba?

This is the same man that called Milne a [censored] rapist, denied it and then gave the worst limpest excuse ever, and now he's

showing the way for the kids at Moomba? Wow.

For mine, the clock starts ticking for his coaching only this year. IMO we have been In Rebuild mode up tillthis pre season!

So, IMO, we start to eveluate his coaching methods & structures from this Year,,, Rnd1... We have to, BOTH, win ENOUGH games,,,But also we Must develope kids in all skills onfield,,, & in Multi tasks, positional wise, at the same timeframe. This Year....

So, while I think we've reconstructed the list,,, we still have to rebuild the Onfield main Team of, 22 players..

So the development of Spencer, Trengove, Strauss, Howe, McKenzie, Gysberts, Maric, Davis, McDonald, Cook, Tapscott, Fitzpatrick, Jetta, & Blease. These are the main stays of our future structure. We have to get them on the park and try to get as many games into them this year,,, as well as winning enough games to satisfy Us supporters impatient hunger.

So I think if he goes OK,,, this year, (10 Wins should be the cutoff point, less is poor, more is acceptable) he should get another Yr extension. If we make the 8,,, give him 2 Yrs.

Maybe we should try for Buckley? Well schooled by Mick. He's desperate for a flag in his own right. But the flag window is closing at Collingwood while ours is opening. I believe he was a Melbourne supporter as a kid. His hairstyle will also be uplifting for the club image in front of sponsors logo's. :)

Hard and fast rules when your long term focal points have played an average of 16 games is foolhardy. I expect us to push all teams with our best team, and I expect to lower the amount of Inside 50s we concede, and give games to our talent.

Everything else is on the periphery for me.

Well, then our methods differ. My focus is directed at having the players at their best in 3 years.

If we finish 9th this year or 8th this year, to me, won't be Too much of a big deal. I'm not concerned about preliminary finals,,, my concern is all about Grand Finals, & flags. The short term is quickly forgotten by bigger picture.

I have the same bigger picture. I've said it before, finishing 6th and going out in the first week doesn't interest me - I also would like to prepare for three years ahead.

What I am saying is that you're process in relation to the coach is off the mark.

You're basing his extension on games won, or making finals, where you don't believe it is a great measure as you only care about winning flags in few years time.

As much as I would love and expect to see finals, the most important thing for MFC at this point is continued improvement. If we don't make the finals solely because of injuries to key players there is no reason he shouldn't be re-signed. If we make the finals he should be re-signed.

I know people get annoyed when he says this, but I just want to see us "win more quarters than we lose." If we can't do that, I give him a 1 year extension and if there is no significant improvement in 2012, we should look for our coaching elsewhere. No Malthouse for me though. I can list at least 5 people I would want before him.

Paul Roos is one of the best coaches thats been around in the last decade. Bailey is still the man though. But he won't have any excuses in his fourth season. The worm's got to continue climbing. I expect we will play finals this season. And I want to see our kids taste finals now so they are prepared for when the flag is in our reach. It's a losers attitude waiting for the big picture to materialise, all opportunities must be grasped as they arise.

I like Paul Roos as a person but I couldn't handle it if he gave us the Swans game plan .

Same with what Lyon did the the Aints , turned them from exciting to boring as bat5hit .

Gotta say , though I don't like the way Malthouse handles himself with the media , I like the way he seems to get consistant effort from the Pies . They've been round the mark for years with very few A graders .

Our week on , week off , pick & choose when we come to play which has dogged us for years drives me to distraction .

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
