This is a great response from Thomas at Collingwood.

Thomas, who turns 24 in June, yesterday insisted football wasn't ''all about money'' and says he expects to remain with the Magpies next year.

A key figure in the premiership last year, Thomas, one of the league's more marketable players, said he has no intention of linking with the Giants.

''I haven't signed, I haven't spoken to even our club let alone Greater Western Sydney. You can tell Collingwood to start talking contracts if you like, that would be fantastic,'' he said.

We can't catch a break, we finally stabilize ourselves financially and have a chance for a possible finals berth this year.. however rumors that our best potential in Tom Scully leaving will haunt everything we do this year. Ron Barassi has said "Tom Scully is a man now", we'll he needs to act like the rest of the men who have been rumored to GWS and confirm your love for the club your playing for.

I laughed off the rumours of GWS at the start, but I am struggling with it now. I think if he was commited to the 'project' that stynes/schwabb/bailey are embarking on then he should put his hand up and state his love and commitment.

I'm afraid that this could be a cancer for us this year... Its in your hands Tom, end the speculation!

Well Collingwood might not want Dale anymore if they had to pay over what they think he is worth. But I agree with your sentiment. I like to to see Tom come out and say he will play on with us next season. Will make us at ease but does not make sense because he will be exposed to possible injuries and poor form diminishing his value if waits till post season to sign. But he won't because IMO he has already signed some sort of agreement with GWS though not an official AFL contract as his manager says.

Rumours that turn out to be untrue usually never grow two heads like this one has. They float around for a while but loose traction, if they don't get debunked early the media eventually loses interest and they eventually fade away. I am sure the club now is already revising their future plans to accommodate a likely Scully exit.

It was a bit different too.

He always intended to leave Brisbane, a North approached Brisbane 18 months before Buckley was even a zone pre-selection.

Brisbane hadn't even heard of him, North only knew about him cos Buckley's father was friends with Blight, and an illegal deal was signed then & there for Brisbane to pre-select Buckley, then after a year trade him to North for a 2nd round draft pick.

Buckley began to show form in the SANFL, winning the Magarey Medal and their equivalent of the Norm Smith medal in the premiership winning team.

Until North came calling, he'd had a soft spot for Collingwood, due to the connections of his Port Adelaide coach and a majority of his teammates.

He never intended to stay at Brisbane and they had said they would trade him.

It got messy when Brisbane decided they wanted to keep him and Gubby Allan got involved on behalf of Collingwood.

North were quickly pushed aside and Carlton tried to get involved.

John Elliot apparently offered to "put an extra $100K in his top pocket" if he went to the Blues.

Essendon had just won the flag and were arrogant, wanting to know what Buckley thought he could do for them.

Collingwood had one of their lesser-known country scouts pretend to be Buckley's manager and who spoke to Birsbane and repeated insisted he refused to stay.

Clauses can easily be written into a contract now to accommodate the Salary Cap and Free Agency issue to ensure he is not disadvantaged by them when and if they eventuate. No need to wait.

its not that they can sign any uncontracted player, no problems with that, you need to have a successful team if its a start up, we can't have another Bears, where players who weren't even gonna play were given to them.

But its more the bending over backwards the AFL is doing to accommodate them, something which they would never do for any other club currently in the system. This loophole they created where players can be signed between the end of their season and the draft is a joke, in actual fact your creating a culture of deception, and this is purely the creation of the AFL.

The teams, with extra cash should be using the current system that is available to all clubs to sign players.

Now they are going to be allowed to put the players names on the back of the jumper something no other club has been allowed to do, I know this is something small but it further shows the bias the AFL has. The Scum were threatened with points loss and massive fines when they wanted to put a yellow strip on their jumper to recognise and raise money for cancer research, so where is the fairness and objectivity of the independent board???

Yes, he must be physically bullet proof and iron willed.

No need to take the fat contract now that might affect his focus on the football. Seems to be his only weakness at the moment.

Nothing will stand in his way to resign for us at the end of the season. Knee soreness not withstanding.
