Is getting an invite an indicator though? I thought a lot of blokes turn them down to stay TAC/SANFL/WAFL

No aspiring AFL player in their right mind would turn down an invite to the AIS/AFL Academy.

If you know that you are locked into a Father/Son pick, then the AIS invitation is yours to deny. For mine, I think he would still go, but if it clashed with something at home or school, he could easily pass.

I just said he DID NOT receive an invite. Billy didn't really set the world on fire at last years U16 national champs so he's got some work to do. Let's just wait and see before declaring he's the next Jack Viney.

Or maybe he's not good enough to get an AIS invite....

Blasphemy!

We could use a Nahas type...

A Hird type would be better.

Surely Jack Viney has to be the first Jack Viney before he can be the next Jack Viney :-)

Billy is a long stretch behind that.

Stretch shirked a contest and was tarred by that, but at his best was a very, very good player. If he was on our current list and at at his best he would probably be the best player we would have.

Think it was against Dipper in the GF wasn't it, with everyone watching. Dunno what supplements those Hawks were on but they were twice the bulk of Swooper's skilful Melb side.

There are some wonderful hangers of Stretch while roaming the wings, on YouTube. Nice accurate kick too. One of my favourites.

The few reports I've had indicate that the boy can play and loves the Dees. I think he's eligible for draft next year. Sorry, had to step out of the gloom.

Pretty sure he'll be 17 next year and if he's half as committed as Jack Viney it's a great start.

He did do work experience at the club. I'm sure there must be a good line about what he learnt during his time. Someone help me.

He learned what not to do in order to be a successful footballer.

Article on the SANFL website about him playing for Glenelg u/17's?

Posted

My cousin is involved at Glenelg. Billy's played a handful of U18's games & a game for the reserves. He's doing pretty well considering he should be playing U17's.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
