2010 Player Review - # 33 Austin Wonaeamirri

Shook off an injury-ridden couple of years to show glimpses of what he is capable of. There is competition for his spot but at his best he can have a big impact on a game. Played the last six games to show that he is part of the future - Luke Holmesby melbournefc

Aussie has the potential to play a significant part in our future, if he can get his body right, and become fully match fit.

Watching the Tiwi Turtle link up with the Walpiri Wizard was poetry in motion at times.

These 2 guys are the epitome of synnergy.

Can't wait to see them go round in 2011.

- Aussie must keep his body right.

It made me giddy in round 22 to see Jurrah and Wonna fighting for the ball. There was one moment in the pocket on the northern side at the Punt Road end where they were both running for the ball, and Wonna had a snap from a near-impossible angle and almost kicked the goal. Had he given it to Jurrah, it would have been a goal. But they're going to be a formidable part of our forward line!

Get fit Wonna. last year you came back fatter than a pig and it was un-professional. Thing is year before he looked a million dollars in the pre-season and had trimmed right down. he needs to get back VERY fit this time and he will improve on 2010.

Hope you are right but he seems to go misssing for long periods in the games I have seen him play.

Hope that is just a fitness thing.

He needs to have an injury free 2011 and play a lot better than this year.

Until then The jury is still out for me.

definitely would be one the least fittest blokes at the club, early season he was fat by normal bloke off the street standards.

given that it was promising he started to show something towards the end.

Very much due for a full season. we may be smart with his chronic lower back/hamstring injuries and ease off at times, so he doesn't lose weeks of fitness due to injury. He is not unlike Davey whose first years were littered with soft tissue injuries.

he showed in some games he is top quality so we need him.

Still first in line for the small forward job. Back in his first season he won us a couple of games off his own boot, and by my reckoning he's the only bloke currently in our team that's done that. Fit, he's easily best 22.

Didn't get to see the game yesterday but from all reports little aussie wonamerri played well, read the newspaper today and they had him in the best but didn't kick any goals so was just wondering where he played yesterday and how he went? Hoping for big things from the duo of LJ and Wona in 2011 n beyond!

From the audio he was involved in most of the significant forward play along with Jurrah & Bennell.

Brian Taylor was a rap for all three and his excitement levels were appropriate.

Big season for Wonna, seems he Jurrah & Bennell could cause sides a few problems if they get the consistency right. Three very different types as far as strength & weakness is concerned. A big plus for us.

yer forgot to include jamie with aussie n LJ but see him playing further up the ground on the wing with stints in the midfield as a X factor type, similar to the role cyril plays

Every side needs one/2 players with the x factor and Liam & Aussie both provide have it. We must insure both are sensibly managed and can get on the park.

I agree Fan, but all players must take some personal responsibility for their own fitness levels, diet etc., and not return after the Christmas break as fat as butter (or turtle meat?).

Needs to get fit, stay fit, get selected and...

get his hands on the ball more.

There alot of excitement about Wonna which I think is ahead of what he has produced to date.

Many speak fondly of the Jurrah/Wonna/Bennell and some attribute the X factor to them.

Well I have seen the X factor in Jurrah but Wonna has not shown enough for that accolade.

Hope he knuckles down and performs next year.

Don't quite see the x factor in Wonna as well but I think he's a talent. He's a smart one touch player who has beautiful vision and excellent footskills. Good decisions on and off the ball.

Body is an issue with hammies and weight and needs a bigger tank. Bennell and Wonna will be good players.

Lets not forget, it takes these indigenous boys a couple of years to get used to Structured Training.

Up North they just play the game, so i really hope Ausin can get in a full pre season this summer, even if it is a little less than the main group. Manage those soft tissue problems...

Rash generalisation. Its not a trait limited to indigenous players. Jack Watts is a point in question. For every Tom Scully there is an indigenous player with similar fitness traits.

Do you have to go through every statement with a Red Pen RR?

I have spent time up in the Top End, They don't train up there. They just play Footy.

I am not talking about school boys.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
