Having met Connolly once I'm not surprised. Very abrasive. Good footballer though.

Then you dont know him.

Makes me wonder what Bobby said to him...

Indeed.

Having known you as a poster, I'm not surprised to see this post.

Really? What was the nature of the conversation, because I have found him to be quite the opposite in multiple conversations held.

I concur there GOAG. I'd like to know bobby's experience.

Agree with WJ's post.

whatever convo anyone has had with him has zero to do with any convo C.Bruce may have had with him

You missed the point. The convo is not the issue. The judgement on Connolly's manner or personality is.

Bobby claimed from that conversation that Connolly was "very abrasive" and thus imply that Connolly's alleged trait impacted the Cameron Bruce situation.

As you can well see, there are a plethora of posters who have had more than a "convo" with Connolly and have found the complete opposite to Bobby's claim.

Maybe it is more that CC wants to get this club up to where it should have been over the last 46 years.

You are to soft Bob-Time to Harden Up son

This is a proud Football club not a not a retirement village giving out superannuation packages.

CC may have realized that over the past 4 years the club Really didn't get Value for money on such a large contract-Cameron was good but never great, let's be honest now.

Personally i will back CC's judgement ovr the Bruce Wallet anyday.

yes but as far as i'm aware none of the above posters have had a CONVO as a highly-paid senior player of the MFC who may have some weak points in his game

The other posters were responding to Bobby's self serving assessment of CC to create an illusion that there is an issue with CC's alleged "very abrasive".

They were not using their discussions with CC as a proxy for discussions with Bruce.

I was having beers with a mate the other night. This bloke's father pays a ridiculous amount of cash for a premium Hawthorn membership, where one of the perks is that Chris Pelchen ( Hawthorn general manager of player personnel and strategy), sat down with the group of premium members and talked them through their recruiting strategy prior to the draft. Apparently during this talk, Chris Pelchen mentioned that Cam Bruce had had a big falling out with Chris Connolly, and that was why he was looking to leave the Dees, despite Hawthorn offering less $$ than the Dees did.

Oh, Chris Connolly falling out with cam spruce, maybe chris fell out with Brock as well then. Oh wait, that a good result, wasn't it.

I think I like Connoll's newfound abrasive nature.

Was it a long or short meeting? Did you converse?

Fortunately it was short. Have you critics of my comment ever thought that maybe, just maybe CC had a bit of [censored] on the Liver that day? Gee, a bloke makes an HONEST APPRAISAL of HIS experience with Connolly and your down on him like a ton of bricks! Like as if he's making it up.FFS.

I have thought, maybe, just maybe, your comments will be taken at face value and if you believe you have had a conversation with Chris on a bad day you shouldn't mention it on a forum? Or you shouldn't comment on his personality being abrasive?

Why not? How could I know if he was in a bad mood on this particular day if I had never spoken to him before? Think before you spout forth!

I may be wrong but in my opinion if Bruce knew he was going to leave us prior to the draft and his mind was made up he should have at least given us the opportunity of trading him and at least improving on one of our draft picks. That is unless Hawthorn told him they would only pick him up if they got him for nothing.

If they did that then we may be able to return the favour some day.

Whatever the case Bruce has lost me and I certainly don't wish him well at his new club because either way one or both have been sneaky.

Isn't that the point?

You shouldn't cast aspersions and allude to him having an abrasive personality when you spoke to him briefly, once, where it's quite likely he may have been in a bad mood (because we all are at times) & it's even possible that he may not have been but you misread the situation due to it's brevity.

That last sentence is spoken like a true hypocrite.

= Irony

Chris Connolly

Exuberant, passionate, fairly charismatic, maybe over the top sometimes but never found him to be abrasive.

Now it appears some Bruce apologists are trying to blame Chris Connolly's alleged character flaws for what has happened. Nothing but pious bleating for this overpaid, over preened and under performing mercenary. If Chris is at fault for driving Bruce out then that certainly elevates my opinion of Chris and the direction he is steering this club towards.

Spot on.

We are running a business, not a friggin kindergarten. We shouldn't be expected to baby our players.

Mercenary??

He is going for less money and the same security Melbourne offered!

Bruce's parents went to China to watch the game.

Why would they go if was not going togo?

There is obviously more to what has been published.

Neither the club or Bruce himself have bagged each other.

McLean and johnson were bagged by the players etc.

Bruce has had many messages of support from players and the Board.

No-one from the club has publicly bagged Bruce.

Bruce has said he felt he had more opportunity elswhere.

The club has said they are sorry he has gone.

Everything else is conjecture.

Actually a win win .

I didn't know that?! How did you come across that, because I know that Cameron didn't go.

Neither the club or Bruce himself have bagged each other.

Where have you been? Nixon is his representative and your club had to put up with him giving Ralph material in the Hun about our 'disrespectful' contract terms (when he leaves for less) and our awful treatment of Junior (while Bruce chatted with Hawthorn before said 'awful' treatment).

Everything else is conjecture.

And when isn't it? When you are told by someone his folks went to China? When Ralph writes it in the paper? When Clarkson is quoted? When Pelchen blurts it out at a premium members event at the HawkS?

Actually a win win .

Things are rarely win-win. Things are rarely a zero-sum game either. But we lost a vice captain, and indirectly, a captain because of this nonsense. And we were dragged through the mud by the most vile player manager out there.

Cameron didn't handle this well at all - and he should have reigned in his pitbull. He didn't and he lives with the consequences.

I agree a win(For us). From what you say it confirms theres no love for the club from him. A mercenary is a highly paid skilled professional soldier who is good at his job but is not going to stick his neck out when the going gets tough. This profile fits Bruce quite well.

I know the real story

As a Realist the club did not handle this well!!!!!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
