Yeah the standard 2 year draftee deal....ok. It Was trengove that signed for the extra year. Is there something in that or am I being paranoid?

I remember reading that Scully was offered a three year deal at the time that trengove signed for three and knocked it back.

No I do not think you are parnoid,

I think he thought he could probably get a bigger deal at the end of 2011 or a big offer from GWS.

I have a bad feeling about that refusal!

Does this mean we're likely to have a quiet trade week?

No such thing as a "quiet" trade week. Merely a week where the deals may or may not get done. Massive difference.

Lets all just relax.

Scully made the right call and I don't think it has anything to do with any interest in leaving the MFC...we should still have space for a fairly nice extension for him.

- Scully probably could have got a decent little bump from the 3 year contract, but who here doesn't think he'll earn a serious pay rise next year?

Trengove however should be a little [censored] at his manager, he has a year of security, but he's obviously pretty good and could demand more than his one year extension gave him

Too early to start talking armageddon on Scully, from everything he's said and shown seems to love the club, the city, and seems to have struck up a friendship with a number of guys around the club.

One last story on Scully - I saw him driving into the ground mid-way through the year - driving a banged up commodore, I don't think this guy is too fussy.

I'm interested in Bruce, I wonder if he is the person Guy Mckenna was talking about last week. If Bruce is considering leaving the Gold Coast is where the club needs him to go, at the very least we will get a second round pick but hopefully end of first round.

I hope he stays I think a lot of Dees supporters under estimate his value.

However I think you are kidding if think we would get better than a second round pick.

He has two years at best left and not rated highly by most people.

Hope we do not have to worry because he will resign soon( I hope )

As I understood it, Trengove was given three years because he is from South Australia and they wanted to give him a good shot to avoid the go-home factor.

Amazing when you think Bartram and Jones are only 22yo. Feels like they have been around for ages.

Some good signs with these 5 signings. Clearly Grimes knows he will live his childhood dream and Captain the MFC.

Blease must have shown something post injury to get a 2 year deal. The club has invested much time into his recovery, i dare say he needs to repay that faith and push for a spot early on next season. Big preseason needed from Blease.

Beamer was never going anywhere!

Great to see.

I always wanted him to stay and think it is the right move.

As for the other 4 signings. More positive steps for the Dees.

Keep building and working hard boys.

Just arrived home and saw the good news :) does anybody know when the boys go back to training? I was hopping to get down to our new training home AAMMI.

Don't get a bad feeling about it.... Watts didn't sign until the end of the year...

MFC have put pressure on Scully's manager to sign (not on him personally) but they are stead fast on waiting until the end of next year as he will be in a better position to negotiate with 40 AFL games under his belt. Nothing untoward in it but he is a professional and AFL is a business. He needs to look after his interests which he is being advised that to wait until the end of next year, I agree with the advice but his intention is to remain a one club player especially if the footy department play him on the ball until the wing all this year.

One thing people forget about Scully is- he did not start training till late February but still beat all players in the beep test. Wait till he has done a full pre season then see how good this guy is- he is SENSATIONAL.And if he can improve his kicking BLOODY SENSATIONAL. GOT IT! That is why we want to sign him up now.

Of course we want him signed but because he hasn't the sky isn't falling...

He plans to stay with MFC, he just plans to wait until the end of next year to renegotiated his contract...

Could it be that Melbourne know that Bruce is going. And that their compensation is likely to be a second round pick and therefore that is why they are happy to give up their original second round pick for Hale???

If we knew he was going, Junior would be playing in 2011.

That's what I'm inclined to think.

Doesn't necessarily mean he won't go in the end, but the club hasn't had any indication that this will be the case.

The plot thickens......

But this is what I keep thinking to myself as well. HOWEVER, does the MFC actually have any idea what Bruce is doing??? :/

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
