If true,, I'm both saddened & excited by the possibilities.. Saddened because Jones'y is just one you can't help but respect & love. But also I see his future as limited with us & we must get every move right, so we have to be a little selfish in our one way quest to build this club into a premiership Unit. That means there will be pain associated with this rebuild.

Strongly saddened! I have a feeling we wont get much for him?

BUt lets not get to far ahead of our selfs.

I'd any Maric take Davey day over.

I'd take Davey over Maric.

I feel that some people are underrating Alwyn. Most of my close mates are bomber supporters and they know their footy and i've asked them about him. They are think he's a game breaker, who's had some troubles coming back from his knee reco in 2009, but is still a very good player. From the games i've watched Alwyn, i agree. He has some really nice skills, and is still super fast.

I'm not saying Alwyn is a gun, nor do i think he should be a massive trade target of ours... but he would be a useful player as a speedy forward pocket teaming up with Wona, he would release Bennel to the wing/midfield/half back, and if he really wants to come the demons we should facilitate a trade. He won't be expensive.

For me, Maric is a nothing player. Was drafting at 21 (not very high) 3 years ago supposedly as a sharp shooting forward pocket. He is not a sharp shooter, he doesn't have genuine goal sense (rarely kicks more than 1 goal), and has played mostly as a high half forward the last 2 years, with not much success. I doubt he'll have a breakout season next year, and i wouldn't be surprised to see him delisted in the next few yrs. I see no reason why we shouldn't offload maric is a suitable trade arises.

Aaah Nudge. Where do you go during mid-year?

Nowhere. I post during the year and visit alot!

Juast this time of year last 3 years due to work I get info worth starting a topic.

Some small developments today. Didnt hear anything on JOnes, still same word he is in limbo but most likely will stay and that remains my mail but you never know.

Sherman has inked Demons as one of his top 3 teams but am yet to hear if demons reciprocate.

Only other thing I was told today is that Djerrkura is also a target.

Cheers.

I'd expected us to have all our players we wanted to keep signed on by now.

We have signed up all of our really important players, the only ones left are more peripheral to our future teams success.

In retrospect, signing Frawley up to a 4 years deal mid year could be the best move we've made in years. We've certainly got him signed up under market value, considering in 4 years time, when he comes out of contract again, he'll certainly have 4 All Australians under his belt

Don't want Maric trade for round 7 pick in the draft

Essenscum can keep Alwyn Davey two words: List Clogger

Hope Bruce stays the longer it takes the less likely it seems

I'd expected us to have all our players we wanted to keep signed on by now.

Hmm, don't be so sure DD, the last 2 years we have had Green and then Flash dragging their heels during the trade week. I for one think that Tracky Daks is of value to us and should be kept. Re the link to BF I hope this one works:

Went to school and played with Djerkurra, amazing speeed average skills and very selfish player. followed him through and still seems relatively similar. lot of quad injuries too which seems to have hampered the speed factor. therefore, imo not much upside

Great stuff, Nudge! A very helpful topic - much appreciated. :)

However, we all must remember that clubs talk to MANY players seeking trade etc. At the end of the day, and as the end of trade period gets closer and closer, we may be lucky to gain 3 players. It's like a list that gets cut down quickly. Maybe we'll end up with 0 trades!!

But such is out love of this period... the speculation and pondering thoughts of our club's ability to recruit someone new.

Personally, I hope we end up with recruiting Alwyn Davey (at the expense of a Maric) so that the Davey bro's can unite and become a potentially sensational force.

I don't want Cheney or Warnock to go. Ditto Jones.

Minimal trades for mine. We're going backwards if we recruit Hale/C. Cloke/McKinley et al. Seriously. All three are mediocre at best. Djekurra??? Would he even get a gig??

To me, our young squad is already set and ready to fire big time in 3 years time. Until then, let's hold back on the trading and just focus on retaining our list with the ability to recruit bigger-named players down the track (oh the joy of front-loaded pay).

Body type: Alwyn is no superstar & won't be. We are drafting to be a premiership side.

Alwyns body type,,, get knocked OFF the ball in September. So, they have to be at least Exceptional, > Aaron is. Alwyn is not.

We need body types like Wonna, or Maric, or Bennell will grow well & Jetta will develop well + has Aggro factor.

I'm led to believe that Nathan went to school at Peninsula Grammar and I've heard from an excellent source via that school that Jones is leaving.

If true, maybe the temptation of playing alongside Ablett in the engine room was too good to pass up. Hard to blame him if that's the case.

All this talk of premiership windows for the dees - GC are going to have a a premiership barn door you could drive a truck through ... with or without Jones.

Hale in my eyes is the PERFECT recruit for us. We need a tall option up forward like a cay needs a litter! He gives us the bail out option which will give confidence to spped up our transistion and bring ball to ground for our smalls well. THEN he adds the 2nd ruck for 6-9 mins a quarter meaning we do not ned another back up, thus giving us another runner on the bench! he is not a star but we dont need nor really want him to be! 35-45 goals, lots of contests and an extra runner are better for us than a star anyway.

Thats just my opinion. Yours is a valid one also.

Glad ppl are enjoying the info, it means I can keep updating without worrying about annoying those ppl who forget that 98% (actual figure) of proposals amount to zip. To re-iterate, WE WONT be getting both Walker and Mckinley, or Sherman AND Hill, teams know what they want and generally target 3 or 4 of that type hoping to maybe land 1 of them.

Much appreciated 'Nudge' whilst most of it will not eventuate it is still good reading and also gives an insight to some rumours that we don't hear.

And also something to read until trade week starts. Wish it would hurry up

Keep it up mate

At the very least Nugde you're entertaining, no idea if you really have the inside word or you just collate the info from various sources, it doesn't matter because the end result is the same. All I have to do to hear the rumours is open your thread, even if it's just for a bit of fun in the off season!

I could handle ending up with T.Walker, Sherman or Everitt. I'd wet my pants with glee if we landed Jessie Smith but I can't see us landing him. If we somehow got Smith/Walker and Sherman for Warnock and Jones I'd be happy. Ross Smith as a rookie would be interesting, not quite sure how I feel about that proposal, last I heard he had pretty much retired earlier in the season.

Not sure about everyone else but I'm a little concerned about the rumours of us targeting Hale. Sure he's big, but as a ruck he's ordinary (PJ is better) and he lacks presence in the forward line. If we're going to get a mature tall forward I want someone who is willing to bust open packs, and the Roos won't let him go cheaply.

I hope we chase others and only take him if he's cheap.

Edit - I have no idea about Clayton Hinkley, can anyone tell me what type of player he is and how he has been performing. Just found he's played one game for Fremantle and is 21, midfielder size

The Clayton hinkley rumour isn't true.

I think earlier in this thread some1 said they asked him over him over facebook and he replied' na I signed with freo

Yah, I just read the thread titled 'Clayton Hinkly' ... Apparently sign an exension with Freo, but by the sounds of his kicking looks like we may have dodged a bullet with that one

Why the hell would we want Alwyn Davey??...is he better than Aussie??..bennell?? definitely not.

I would much rather Maric stay than us getting Davey...

Jesse white would be awesome....

Taylor walker..no thanks...

Everitt yes please if it only takes Warnock...

Nathan Jones manager was on SEN this morning and stated that Nathan was close to agreeing to a new deal with the Dees. He also manages James McDonald and they were keen to talk about him going to the Blues.

What as a player?????????????

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
