If Harry Omg gets a gig before Chip, well... I don't know what, perhaps I'll post some strongly worded rantings upon message boards... but anyway, I rate Harry O as a footballer, but Chip has been so much better it's not funny. They both rebound, only one of them can stop anyone.

I see a Hitler rant coming on!

And yet pre-season some people thought we didn't have a player in the top 50...one even may have said 150! (though quick editing almost let that slip)

HG, you know that those comments were pre-2010 season, so don't start that cr@p with me.

It's quite easy for you to sit back now and make that comment after we have seen the 3 nominated players improve significantly over the past season. Good work genius.

I would have Frawley in as a certainty and Jamar as a probable, but Green i think may just be pipped. Frawley has been the backbone of our rock solid defense, but more than that he has dominated on the rebound. Maybe i am biased but i think Jamar has clearly been the 2nd best ruckman for the year and has definitely earned a spot in the 22.

I will just about spew if Frawley doesn't get in.

Devils advocate time again.

They said that they would select the team as if they were going to play a real game. With Sandilands a certainty for the number 1 ruck spot, they are more likely to go for a backup who gives more around the ground rather than another hitout specialist. In that department Jolly has been far more impressive than Jamar, despite being thrashed both times he lined up against the Dees this year.

On the bright side though, if they stick to that logic Brad Green has to get in. He's played both midfield and forward roles and is a more well rounded and complete player than any of his rivals for the small forward spots.

Funny that I seem to remember several articles in the first half of the year that Jolley was hardley getting a touch \.The side is picked on the whole years performance isn't it?

Let's look at it statistically...

At the end of the H&A season Brad Green sits 6th on the goal kicking ladder (55 goals, only 7 behind Franklin). Add to that the fact that he rotates through the midfield.

He's also taken more marks (also 6th in the comp) than any of the top rated forwards. It reads well...

Let's say they select three mid-sized forwards and three talls. LeCras (63 goals), S Johnson (57) and Green (55) should be the mids. Milne is the next best with 48 goals, but he trails Green by some margin in disposals, marks and even tackles.

Jamar is a clear second in hit outs (643). Sandilands (686), Mumford (490) and Jolly (480) are the others in contention.

Jolly leads the group with goals (21), Jamar & Sandilands (12), Mumford (4). Disposals are pretty equal. I'd give the second spot to Jamar on the ruck work numbers and the fact that he got the better of Jolly both times they met.

It's often more difficult to review the defenders statistically, but here's one. Frawley sits third in the comp for rebounds from 50. He's widely regarded as one of the competitions best stoppers, add to that his rebounding work off the backline and his ability to play tall or small and you've got your AA back pocket.

All three have a strong argument for inclusion in the 22.

Good analysis wise. Although I thought Le Cras had a strong argument for selection last year, yet Leon Davis got in.

I see Chip being named AA. Green only a maybe. It will be interesting to see which way the selectors go with Hall & Franklin. Jamar I think will get the nod if they elect for a ruckman on the bench.

IIRC and I am not mistaken, 45HG16 might be referring to Why You Little (WYL). Not you entirely billy. Particularly about the "top 150" and the editing that followed to suit one's self.

HT - WYL was the one that made the call of the top 150, but I was one of a minimal few that was of a similar opinion (although I didn't agree with the top 150 call). I was very vocal about my opinion of where our players were at pre season 2010, and HG and I had a variety of discussions about this.

I have no doubt HG will try and say that his post wasn't aimed at me, but when he claims "some people", he is pretty much including me as there weren't many of us on that side of the debate.

Edit - spelling.

Of course you were included in "some people," why wouldn't you be? Though my thinking was more inclined to lean towards the 150 comment, as that was what I most vehemently disagreed with and would obviously stick in my mind.

Anyway, I'm sorry I was grandstanding and showponying. We'll just be happy for the boys.

Not sure why you say this. I brought this up a few weeks ago from memory. But yes, I suppose it is easy for me to.

I cant decide on green or Johnson, for the games Johnson has played.. he has kicked ALOT of goals

I don't think Johnson deserves to be in at all.

Likewise.

He kicked a lot of his goals in extraordinarily lopsided wins.

Surely, by the same token Podsiadly would be in the squad?

Johnson is there based on reputation.

Agreed. Johnson shouldn't be there, and I'm not just saying that to up Green's chances. He really hasn't had that good a year.

Hell he kicks over 50 goals in the season and features in so many goal assists. He is the trump card in the forward line of an top class team.

Far from reputation getting him there, may be its a case of SJ being consistently outstanding over long period of time.

Defintite claims to AA as much as Green has.

Ditto. While Johnson has kicked goals, he has been inconsistent, and I can't remember a matchwinning performance from him this season. Greeny has been more consistent, has had to work harder for his goals (fewer 'gifts' from up the ground), and his goals have generally influenced the result more than Johnson's. Greeny is also more versatile, and spent some time in the mid-field / across half back during the year.

That would be his reputation, would it not?

Just so you know, Johnson played in 4 of Geelong's 5 losses this year. In those 4 games he kicked 6 goals, never kicking more than 2.

He kicked 33 of his 57 goals against Richmond, West Coast, Brisbane, Essendon and Port Adelaide (8 games).

He kicked 12 goals against Hawthorn, St Kilda, Collingwood, the Bulldogs and Carlton (7 games).

He just doesn't perform to the same level of brilliance in close games, losses, or games against the top quality sides, as he does when he beats up on the crap at Skilled Stadium.

There are just as many stats you could use for him also. Goal assists for one - I have a recurring vision as I write this of Stevie J centering the ball into the corridor, often.

He is a match winner, nothing surer and deserves a spot IMO.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
