Salopek Wants Out

Go get him boys - exactly the type of player we need assuming his shoulder holds up.

Piece number 1 in the puzzle than follows the Utility ruckman/forward.

I'm not sure he is the type we want. At all.

I'm sure he is exactly the type of "clearance" type player we need - I reckon we will have a tilt "aussuming his shoulder holds up"

Whilst he would be a good player for any club that picks him up, he definitely would not be a priority.

Dean Bailey was calling Salopek regularly a couple of months ago about moving to the Dees. This move is entirely possible and you can never have too many quality mids

Highly dount that. Source or just blatant BS. Me thinks the latter.

WOWWWW you are completely wrong mate. Maybe get your facts right first before you shoot your mouth off.

This information is from Salopek's father, so are you calling him a liar?

Nobody cares if your grandad was a gun by the way.

How am I supposed to post the quote mate?

What do I have to gain by lying here?

Watch Essendon, Richmond and Carlton pounce. I think the dees are being a bit careful with their money given they will have to manage a list of up and coming stars (which is why Cam Bruce was asked this week to take a substantial pay cut). We have the cap space, but only for pieces of the premiership puzzle? Is Salopek a piece? Couldn't confidently say one way or the other right now.

I do not mind Salopek, but I think our midfield is going to be a hard one to break into next season, even for someone like Salopek.

If the price is right then why not (450-550k per year, in return give up our 1st round pick for this season and take back ports 3rd rounder?)

Draft picks will be overrated this season, so to trade for Salopek could be a win for both clubs.

No thank you!

Boak is the gun! Not Salopek.

Wrong.

I'm originally from Adelaide, now in Melbourne, and I follow SA footy closely. Salopek IS a gun and if he wants out then we should chase him. You can never have enough quality mids and with the retirement of Junior he would be the perfect replacement. The issue is his shoulder, but Hawthorn took a chance with S. Burgoyne and his 2nd half of the year has been excellent.

Where does it say about the Dean Bailey calls or Melbourne chasing him in that article?

So he wants to leave. Doesn't mean that we are in the market for him and nor do i think we should bother unless it is for pick 67 or the pre-season draft.

Let me ask you this. If Salopek comes in, who makes way. It will have to be a midfielder for list balance.

So Scully, Trengove, McKenzie, Gysberts, Sylvia, Moloney, Jones, Davey? Perhaps Tapscott or Blease?

Which one of them will you get rid of to make way?

Like you, I take the Bailey comment with a grain of salt but that pick 67 comment is just rediculous.

Whether you agree with him or not, Schwab outlined a goal a year or so back of having at least 12 good midfielders. Compared to our current stocks Salopek would be quite complimentary IMO. He has experience, is/was respected at Port, when fit is a decent player and IMO a little more versatile than Scully, McKenzie, Moloney, Jones. The big question is the shoulder (and to a lesser extent how much cash he's after) - if we could snare him with our 2nd pick I would regard that as a good get for us.

Don't agree that he would be anymore versatile than Scully or Trengove & potentially Blease, Gysberts, Tapscott, Grimes to name a few young potential mids. McKenzie picks himself for other reasons. I agree a fit Salopek could have more versatility than Moloney/Jones, but with others such as Sylvia, Davey, Bennell, Bail as other mid types I would suggest that we have around the 12 that Schwab would be looking for.

Don't think there is a need for us to go shopping around this year.

I won't comment on Tapscott, Blease and Gysberts until I have seen them consistently at senior level but having said that, neither Blease or Tapscott are likely to be regular inside mids and Gysberts (promising) has a whole road of development ahead of him. IMO Scully and McKenzie are very similar, play close to the ground and are quick and agile. Salopek IMO would compliment them quite well. Importantly he uses the ball well and has played as a genuine inside mid.

Like you, I don't really expect the club to go "shopping around" - to the point that we don't drastically need to fill spots nor are we keen to give away picks ala WCE. But if someone like Salopek came to the club I reckon we could put him to good use none the less.

The difference is, S.Burgoyne is a gun.

Have seen salopek play quiet often, would take him in for sure.

The kid can play, only problem is that shoulder.

We would've kept McDonald if it was 'experience' we were after.

The reason James was asked to retire, was so that we could get games into the likes of Gysberts, Tapscott, and Blease (in addition to the other kids who've featured).

It just wouldn't make any sense for us to be chasing Salopek imo.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
