Nobody who played for Casey last week deserves a game, they were all terrible, with the exception of Daniel Bell who worked his butt off but who we know is not up to it.

Not sure why they dropped Gysberts, granted he had a quiet game last week, but I'd still prefer him in the side ahead of all the possible Ins

For mine, the final I/C should be:

Jordie McKenzie, Jack Watts, Jamie Bennell, Kyle Cheney

Don't mind if Dunn stays in for Cheney, but really Cheney has earnt a call up, despite being poor last week. Having said that, Adelaide have a number of talls, so it wouldn't surprise me if MacDonald plays.

Good news re Bock being out too.

Agree that noone deserves a callup to the seniors based on that performance of Casey last week. The first time I get to goto a game all year, 1v2 and they put up that sort of a performance? I wouldnt be rewarding anyone after that insipid effort, however given the way the selection cards have fallen at least one player gets a nod (albeit MacDonald did not play so can be excused.

Matchups will be a huge decision in selecting the bench. As Jaded mentioned, Bock out is a huge loss for them, still no McLeod or Burton, and three of their ins are relatively inexperienced in Davis, Jaensch and Sellar. Walker and Tippet have found a bit of form of late, and Porpoise on the bench always kicks a couple of cheapies against us. You'd think Warnock would goto Tippet, Rivers to Walker and hopefully that frees Chip up to nominally match up the Porpoise and then create from there.

A half backline of Doughty, Davis and Jaensch would hardly be striking fear into most teams, so I hope we keep Watts in and hopefully he can get a bit of confidence up against one of these defenders.

On paper, we've never been a better shot at winning this fixture in the last 5 years.

I've got no probs with dropping Gysberts. Part of the challenge this year, and next year for that matter, is "managing" the playing list and planning, developing and moulding the team. Each young player will have a specific plan laid out for them for the couple of years which include number of games and areas to work on. As others have said Gysbersts has had a taste (coming in as he did when they rested Scullgove for the afore mentioned reason of managing the list) and he will now have things to work on. Selections for the rest of the year will not be week to week but rather with a view for the next 2 seasons. Bailey will make it clear to any young player dropped that it is not necessarily a reflection of the clubs assessment of their current rating in terms of the best 22, but rather part of their development plan.

Cheney deserves a go as reward for sustained effort, though unfortunately for him it may not be this week (though he will prob. travel with the team for the experience). Big Mac is a quality player, as evidenced by being a cut above when he's gone back to Casey and i reckon Bailey considers him to be an important player. He'll play.

A word on Miller. I've read the various threads on him, most of which are invariably negative. Over his career I’ve never been a great wrap for him, primarily because he hasn’t delivered on the potential he showed early in his career and also because he just doesn’t hang onto enough contested marks, even when he uses his body to advantage (shades of early Neitz).

That said I agree totally with demondave. In this team his physicality is vital and he always puts his body on the line. Against Collingwood he again fluffed a couple of marks he deserved to get but he hammered packs, brought the ball to ground, led hard and made his presence felt – not to mention kicking a vital snapped goal that he read beautifully of the pack. With Watts yet to develop any real physical presence (and arguably a little wary of getting amongst it) and Bates not big fella he plays a key role. There is no coincidence the best games Watts has played at both Casey and with the dees have been along side miller. Until we find another strong mid twenties forward MFC will keep him on the list and deservedly so. He may not be there when we win our falg be will have played his part in getting us there.

Why do you do that? You didn't have to insult him. And I doubt your knowledge of the game is that much superior to his anyway.

His opinion is that Gysberts was unlucky to be dropped. Yours is that he wasn't. Next time just leave it at that.

Cheney has had no claims to fame so far, he's played half a dozen games and is still learning the caper at AFL level. The analogy with

Watts is to show the differing expectations and patience with developement of different players, a lot of it purely based on where they

are drafted.

When a player in a similar position on the field such as Daniel Bell has been on our list for eight years, I think its safe to say he has

deficiencies and will not make it as a league footballer. It is far too early to be ruling a line through Cheney.

It may be too early to rule a line thru Cheney but comparing his development potential with Watts is naive. More patience with Watts has to do with his much greater scope for development not his high draft position. Same would be the case comparing Cheney with Garland at the same age, both similar draft picks but with massively different scope for improvement. With Cheney WYSIWYG - he's AFL standard like Nathan Brown, Peter Walsh and Daniel Ward and can probably carve out a similar AFL career.

There's much I agree with in your post, but I don't completely concur on Miller. I don't think that he has always puts his body on the line. If he did, I'd have him in the team every week for the reasons you mention. Miller needs to be the big, aggressive, enforcer and protector in the forward line. He either doesn't have the confidence, smarts, or ability to adequately take charge of this role. He'll have his good days in this regard and when he does we'll go a long way to winning those matches - see Port game.

I also don't agree on Joel MacDonald. He's a fringe player at best.

This post made me shudder....I hope like hell we dont have room on our list for a Walsh or Ward. Brown was a very very committed footballer but I would hope he wouldnt have got a game in the current side.

It is very difficult to judge his contribution

Last few games I have attempted to watch him closely

I have seen:

1) a very hard worker

2) a good athlete

3) a great team man with the required physical presence

4) most importantly a player completely lacking in self confidence and confidence in his physical ability

Is this why he passes the ball off all the time?I really beleive he would shine if this was addressed in some way

I agree that he is a hard worker and good athlete (but definitely not elite) and good team man. He does have a physical presence at times - but definitely not all of the time.

As I have stated previously numerous times, I think he lacks in football nous and understanding alot of the time and this correlates directly to limitations on his decision making with the ball. This is most evident when he elects to dish it off instead of having the confidence to have a direct impact or influence. Perhaps this leads us to acknowledge the fact that he is very limited in the ability to create play himself at times(ie. turn and kick to position himself).

After 130+ odd games I think we should be prepared for more of the same, rather than eradicating and correcting these characteristics which lead to our frustration of Miller not taking the next step. His presence though is both critical and necessary for the time being in our teams development.

The last three posts are all good points and probably sum up Brad pretty well.

In his early days he really did apply more physicality to the contest and got reported. IMO this had an averse affect on how he was looking to play as at that time he was working fairly well as a lead up CHF even though he still tended to dish off a handball!!

Not saying this as an excuse because it is something that he should have well and truly rectified by now.

But I do believe that he is needed in this forward line currently. He is the Nathan Carroll of the current forward line......hanging on while the better one's come through!!

I guess Jack Watts better watch his back with Brad when he has his final drinks with the group!

Yep...the writing was on the wall for them Rhino. Burton started fairly well in that game though if I recall but just didn't finish off his work but was terrible after half time.

They are a shadow of 12-24 mths ago and even the future prospects like Walker and Tippett have had terrible years.....we must win this game!

Agree unless he has a niggle, I didn't see Gys being dropped. There is also no Casey game this weekend so dropping could be at least two AFL games. Must be more than form and relate to an injury or a matchup.

Interesting that we've dropped a midfielder for another tallish defender in MacDonald. We now have plenty of options for Taylor Walker and Kurt Tippet who can both win games off their own boot.
