I can see that people are going to focus on that one moment of idiocy, aren't they? Watts was pretty fair for most of the game. Not dominant and probably nothing that another player couldn't have done, but he was pretty decent up the ground. He kicked a stunning ball to Dunn for the goal, once again showed his clean hands and took a couple of good marks. Sadly, a few times he got lost and nailed in the tackle. While his lack of awareness was evident, it was also evident that he had absolutely nothing to pass to and was waiting for something to present itself.

Aside from the commentary on Watts, I honestly can't think of a player I wasn't happy with. Green was wayward with his set shots which cost us badly, but otherwise was good once again. We had some nasty mistakes in the back half, none worse than Grimes' attempt to punch the ball through which dropped short and was kicked through By Dick, but overall the team as a whole was great and a few players were outstanding.

dont want to get on the bag bruce bandwagon (bbb?), but is his kicking worse than his handballing?

harsh on trengove, scully and jetta imo. and a little on watts perhaps (bar the brain fade)

Jack Watts showed me today that he has the skills to be a fine player. His brain farts will get ironed out and I can't wait till he has the strength to outmark his opponent.

His performance was a 4.5/10. Some good, some bad.

Ridiculous to call him a liability.Watts was guilty of a couple of clangers - but gave us some direction with his leads in the middle stages. Kicked a goal and was directly responsible for another. A useful contribution overall.

I agree for Jetta and Trengove. I loved what Jetta did at times. Is hard at it and clever by hand and foot, linked well with Davey, seems to understand him and where to go up field. And 90% or more of the time when Trengove gets the ball or is in a tough contest he does great things.

Scully just has to work on that disposal by foot. He's just going too high and too long on the left. I want to see him keep attacking with the ball though.

Demons' Hands - sharp, clean, decisive

Almost any time the ball was there on the floor to be grabbed today, we took it. Cleanly. And shot it out to one, two or three teammates. It was a delight to watch the clean hands and run-on play today.

Goals on the run were great today. Dunn looked so much better when he played on quickly instead of doing the prancing-horse set shot. Others who played on as I recall - Bate (as usual) and Morton. Great to see - no chance for the Pies to get back in position.

Watts was ok, wouldn't say he was any worse than gysberts, scully or trengove. Did a few good things, a few bad things.

Moloney deserves the captaincy when Junior steps down. He played like a true leader today.

Are we talking about the holding the ball in the middle of the ground? In the replay he looked to be completely hung out to dry by a more senior teammate on the scene. Even a half-baked shepherd would've saved him, but he got nothing.

I might watch the replay again later in case my memory's playing tricks, but that's as I remember it.

"Liability" is a ridiculously harsh assessment on Watts' game anyway.

I thought he looked quite promising leading up the wing. There were a couple of WTF moments in his game but plenty of other things that I liked. He also did some nice things off the ball like blocking and shepherds.

Bruce: never play in backline!

His "I handball to anyone to avoid being caught with the ball" attitude in the backline cost us numerous times in the first quarter especially.

I'd rather he kicked it, at least when he kicks a mongrel and turns it over it's 50 meters away and not 2 meters with his handballs.

He must be taken from the back line. and if he is not good enought to play forward or midfield then he should be dropped.

Over all I thought Jetta was very good, kicked a good crumbing goal, provided some toughness and apart from a few late turn overs used the ball really well

Miller didn't provide any strength. His attempt at marking the ball in the third term when he had the sit was utter rubbish. And to say Watts is a liability is a disgrace. Yes he got lost a few times but try looking at his lead up work especially during the third term. His over head marking on hard leads was first rate and his kicking was superb.

I had this guy written off but he has been fantastic since round 3. He is our best small defender at the moment, I still panic when he gets the footy but his defensive game has been great.

I want to concur on this one. I have been a big detractor of him in the past, and i still think he's disposals aren't up to scratch. But defensively he has really done a good job this year.

I really hate this Grimes for captain garbage.

If you give the captaincy to a kid like that, when there's 6-10 mid-aged players who deserve it a lot more, and would be more appropriate, that's a massive slap in the face. I reckon Green, Moloney and Davey would be justifiably [censored] after their contributions to the club in an awful, awful period for MFC.

If you chose one of those three, I'd be disappointed for the other 2, and in that sense it would make sense to have 2 or 3 co-captains. I just hate that option. Can't stand awarding it as a reward. It's a job that has a LOT of responsibility that comes with it. And for that reason (and not his 38 touches) I'd go with Moloney. Takes his job, the club, the games, leadership and footy in general VERY seriously.

Thats all it is with Jack. He has SUBLIME foot skills, and has more courage than his thin frame can carry. He just needs a big Milleresque goal haul to jump start his season.

I like the Kid, and want him to play on this season!

I really wanted Jetta to bust open the game. Did some nice things, but much like Bennell this season went missing. Jamie and Nev are such handy players when on. I still harbor the feeling that they are going to get much better, and become similar players to Flash who find plenty of the footy and can be damaging on the run. I hope there can be a time where both can hold down spots in our 22 instead of one simply replacing the other.

Dunn- will play on?

Dunn did some OK things. Liked his contributions. He did have some good backmen on him in presti and O'brien. Deserves to keep his forward role for the foreseeable future.

watts did well apart from a few mistakes, in the first quarter when he lost his feet, the ground looked really muddy and wet for some reason, but also he was in 15 m of space the kick could have been better to him, and he got pinged twice for holding the ball. other than that he played really well, led well i reckon, especially in the third quarter i think he contributed strongly, far from a liability.

i felt we do well when we dont notice cameron bruce playing, in the first quarter he got alot of the ball and played a role in the 3 collingwood goals, my only logic for him playing in defence is that he is used for some leadership down there, but also, we cant hve him denying a spot in the team to younger forwards as this is where we need to improve. our backline is set and bruce out, strauss in from next season on is a perfect replacement.
