Interesting that McKenzie has been ommitted. Does anyone know why?

I actually predicted he could miss to have a rest in the team changes thread, but didn't actually expect it to happen. Is he injured or are the suggesting he hasn't been performing.

He has been selected for Casey and I am stunned. I could understand if he was also rested but dropped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't mind them resting but its going to kill my dreamteam this week!!

agreed. but it has finally made me upgrade scull to either nicky dal or coon when i can decide which one and bring the gys onto the bench alongside trengove who gets a rest. upgrading jordie the other week was a godsend too or i would've been proper screwed.

Welcome to the noahs gysberts. chop it up.

The young boys will need the rest after the heat. thankyou you bailey for choosing gysberts over dunn who would've been the expected inclusion to chase gazza round. Bails is all about getting experience into our young kids. how some of you fail to see this is beyond me.

Common sense approach to rest these young guys who have played 9 games in high 'milage' positions, then the added Darwin expenditure of both physical and mental exertion over an extended and differing lead up to last weeks game.

Why [censored] the young guys at cat park when we have seasoned warriors rested who can take their places. Scully, Trengove and Jordie deserve a rest. Too much to expect them to play more than, say, 18 games, this year. Especially given the racey game plan which warrants world record interchanges.

I'm comfortable with the Club, both on and off!

plus 4 weeks of NAB games

they would be pretty tired after darwin, and they would be up against mature, experienced and a strong midfield.

I have two problems with the selections as listed.

1. We're top heavy in the backline again.

2. I'd prefer to see Gys playing with Scully given that they have played together for so long. It would be good for both of them.

they have hawkins, PODS, Mooney

geelongs weakist link is Blake, they make up for it with their mids

Good list management. Running these kids into the ground so we can have a whole bunch of highlight reels for 2010 and none for 2014 only helps the other teams. As much as I would love to see them in 22 games this year I would much prefer to see bigger, stronger and injury free ones playing 22 next year and the year after.

Geelong is not a winnable game on our fixture. Resting the kids after a testing Darwin game is the best move for everyone.

If the dees had smashed Port last week and taken the foot off the pedal in the 4th we would be seeing maybe 2 of the 3 engine room trio facing the Cats.

Warnock is needed, and I think Wonna will be given some time to find form.

Gys coming in is a huge plus for our development. If he plays well he might just hold onto his spot.

Posted

for me it really brings up the question of whether we should be selling home games to freaking Darwin.

If we had lost by a point last week instead of won by a point, it wouldve been fair to say that a home ground advantage mightve been the difference.

And if our players are too stuffed the week after that we are basically conceeding 2 days before the game it hardly seems worth it.

I think that is why the club commented they will be speaking to the AFL about playing the Darwin game next year the week before the bye round so we get 2 weeks to recover before the next game.

I was puzzled by this too. Maybe the FD think he'll give away too many 'Selwood' frees.

Because, let's be honest, he tackles a lot. So if a head is dropped every time he lays a tackle, that's a free kick every time.

Well I ALWAYS gamble responsively. It's responsibly I have issues with

Cannot agree with McKenzie being dropped in any way!! I thought he was one of our better players against the weagles and to drop him is a bit strange...but....the board, the coaching staff really seem to be making wise decisions and I think that we should back them up in these decisions.

Scully and Trengove in my mind maybe should be rested in separate weeks but as long as they are both back for Carlton the rest is a good move......they come back fired up for Blues/Pies then get another rest.

I say back the FD on their decision and embrace the inclusion of Jordie Gysberts.....HE WILL BE A GUN!!

My only concern.....if Gys has a good game 20+ good touches then he plays again....Skull and JT return, who gets dropped next week? Also would like to see a quick return of McKenzie.

Yes I am looking ahead but this is what the whole club is doing....rightly! So I will look to next week and hope to see:

IN - Scully, Trengove, McKenzie?

OUT - Possibles - Wonna (will need to show an improved level of fitness this week or go back for a week or so), Jones? I heard someone above say that McKenzie didnt play well in Darwin? If that's the case then what does that say about Jones 12 possession game? I am all for Jones hard approach at the footy but his lack of awareness that is shown up 2-3 times per game will see him on the edge......I've no doubt that as we go forward I would hope that Grimes, Scully, Trengove, Gysberts, McKenzie...even Blease will be ahead of Jones.....no disrespect!

Posted

...what does that say about Jones 12 possession game?

That he was playing (quite well IMHO) as a tagger on Pearce?

Yes fair point Dr....is sometimes easy to forget the hard work done! But IMHO when the Dees are at or near the top I would suggest that it will be on the back of our new midfield brigade.

Yep, I see that and understand that, and I am 100% behind the effort of the playing group this season for the majority of the games....................but the coaching panel, namely Dean Bailey, I am not sold on.............that is my opinion ad I am entitled to it.

I say out Demon Jack 16.

So you looked at the stats column and determined Jones had a bad game?? That is ignorance at it's best. Did you actually watch the game? Did you notice that Jones was playing a tagging role and did exceptionally well on Pearce?

Oh that's right. The game was on a bit late. Past your bedtime...

Getting a bit personal there aren't we?????? Maybe you were kept up learning to read properly because you obviously couldn't read above and see my admission of guilt in that I declined to acknowledge Jones tagging effort on Pearce.

Again, no need to be personal chump.....state your opinion and move on!!!

I stand corrected and I will IMO again state that Jones has a serious lack of awareness in his game......IMO!

:(

Gysberts will be given more than one game - if there is one consistency with Bailey's selection policy, it is giving kids a couple of games when they debut rather than just one.

I expect Wona to get dropped because I don't yet think his fitness is where it needs to be.

Nothing worse than a poser that does nothing but knock others opinions.....nothing gutsy about those efforts unlike 'the' junior mac!

What was that previous comment about getting personal..?

"you can never underestimate the predictability of stupidity"

Yeah fair enough E25....was just a little agitated and dropped to the level...shame shame!

Like the 'Snatch' quote :)!

surely bartram is warming a spot for a james strauss or the like!?!

I think he is in theory, just not putting the pressure on to force his way into teh team with his performances at the VFL which have been adequate but not game defining

No, at the moment Bartram is our back pocket/small defender/run with guy. And at the moment, he's playing well enough to hold that position over the likes of Strauss and Cheney.

It's not like he's an older player, he's still only 23 or so and he's doing the job, albeit without the kicking skills of Strauss.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
